Since our first visits, which were ONLY to pickup some corndogs, we have ventured further into their menu items. THIS is SIGNIFICANTLY better than just a good "hot dog joint!" The menu items SEEM routine but the thought that has gone into these menu items completely won us over. We were regulars under the old ownership- so todays visit was the first time we were trying with the new ownership. As always, when a restaurant you once loved gets new owners, you never know what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The food tasted almost exactly like how I remembered. We got two cheese dogs, one with just cheese and ketchup and one with cheese, ketchup, mustard relish and tomato. We also got cheese fries and onion rings (onion rings not pictured). The portions are nice and a small order for the onion rings and cheese fry were the perfect size for my mom and I to split. The cheese sauce is not just an artificial nacho cheese and was the perfect compliment. The onion ring batter was not greasy and had the perfect crunch. The inside was clean and updated. This is the standard "hole in the wall" set up that is perfect for locals. It's not crowded with tables, since there are about 6 true booths and then higher tops along the back wall. I could imagine it may be difficult to find seating on a Friday or Saturday night when it's busier, so be prepared. The pricing is a little different than it used to be, but everything in the world is now more expensive so can't complain! That being said- the pricing isn't ridiculous, it was $26 for all our food and drinks. I'd say this is very doable considering the area we live in isn't super cheap. The service was quick considering the food is made to order and not just sitting out. We waited about 10 minutes for our food and that was with 3 orders in front of us. My only recommendations would be: 1. I wish when I checked out they would have told me the bun for the cheese dog is plain and not poppy seed. My mom ordered a Chicago style dog with cheese sauce so hers was poppyseed, whereas mine was just plain. The food was still tasty though so I'm not upset! 2. I wish the cheese sauce cup was just slightly larger but there was still a decent amount 3. I was a little confused upon arrival because the menu wraps around the front of the cashier- not a big deal, I just lacked awareness :) Overall, my food was great, the quality was there, I walked out full and satisfied and had a great experience! I will definitely be going back, which I'm glad about because this was once a family favorite and I'm happy to keep it that way! read more

First visit under new ownership was pretty good. Basic order of a double dog, fries, and I think some totcha thing? Second visit not so good. The pros: The place looks nicer and just feels so much cleaner; the Barqs Red Creme Soda (IYKYK); non-poppy seed buns (those of us with health issues where we have to avoid seeds really appreciate this!), and the service was friendly and great. The cons: my jumbo dog was cold in that nice warm seedless bun - it was not lukewarm, it was *cold*; and the salad dressing was so skimpy it didn't even handle the full salad. The ok: the menu is a little overwhelming and not centered in one place so if you don't know what you want, you're kinda wandering around the counter back and forth...and the fries have potential to be amazing. I like these fries a lot flavorwise but they were lukewarm and those fries in particular kind of harden up when they're not hot anymore. So maybe an off day but when you don't get hot dogs all too often, and were looking forward to getting one all day...biting into a cold one is really pretty cruddy. But as i was driving home, going back wasn't an option. Anyways I suggest you try them out, and when you do - even though it's the same Place with some of the same Menu, give them a fresh chance and a clean slate. My family and I have been eating food from the dog father for a few years now. We don't live real close to the Bartlett location, so my family usually picks up the food and brings it home, which is great! However, today we went in there to enjoy a couple of hotdogs. Part of me wants to say it's unfair to compare the current incarnation of Dogfather to the original...new ownership and a new menu so I shouldn't expect it to be what it always was. That said, after a few visits since the place reopened, and I find that our household doesn't look forward to our visits to Dogfather the way we used to. Our go-to order has always been the Cheesy Beef + breaded mushrooms for my wife, hot dog and cheese fries for my kiddo and the chicken pita for me. Plain hot dogs are awfully hard to mess up, so those are fine. The cheesy beef is still dependable enough to keep us from making the slightly longer drive to Beef Shack. The cheese fries are pricier, but not quite as good. The breading on the mushrooms is too salty and a little soggy. After trying the chicken pita, I've opted not to order anything the last couple of times I've been in to pick up food for my wife and kiddo. It is not that the food is bad, and I am glad to have a local place with decent food. But with prices being what they are these days, the price of the chicken pita is just too much for something that I don't enjoy and can't help but compare to what it used to be. We will still order here -- I want to support local businesses over the chains when we can. I just wish the local place was a little better than "just fine". read more

Don't get me wrong, the food is amazing. Before dogfather got bought out, it was my fav restaurant bc of good food with a cheap price. hotdog tuesday was 99 cents each, and 1.99 on a regular day. Now, it's $3.50 for a SINGLE hot dog, and $2 on hotdog wednesday. everything on the menu is the same, just more expensive. i'm tired of these companies money grabbing any way they can. I catered from here and the food was great. Everyone asked me several times where I got the food from. We had the Italian Beef, the chopped salad and Italian Sausage. The sausage was a bit spicy. Everyone raved about the beef and the chopped salad. Did not disappoint. Highly recommended. Will definitely cater from them again. We do frequent for dine in also. read more

Been here a few times and never walk away impressed but usually it's good enough to come back. Stopped in close to close one evening and found the chairs already put up. (Guess we will take it to go). So the hotdogs were spot on and almost a dollar cheaper than Portillo's. Tuesday's are 99 cent days. Guessing it would be busy those nights. Chicken pitas had a chicken breast in them and were fine but the chicken was a little over cooked and you know what that means - dry. The food was really good, however our order was incorrect - we were missing an entire sandwich. Grubhub refunded the cost of the sandwich, but we were still a bit disappointed. We'll be back though, because even though it went though a long drive (and the delivery driver was late as well), everything was delicious. The food has never been anything less than great. My family has been coming here for 8 years and we have always been treated great by the staff and enjoyed the food. Our family favorite are the hot dogs, and my personal is the Gyros. The young lady that served us tonight is a new hire and she is as bubbly and kind as you could hope for. She really made us feel welcome. On a side note, Mr. Passaro, the owner, took the time to speak with me and my son (a 4th grader) regarding business questions for my son's class project on successful, local area businesses. Went to the new DogFather today. My wife had a Chicago hotdog and I had a gyro sandwich I have to say I wasn't impressed with the gyro I think they forgot to add the gyro meat. There was very little meat on my sandwich and I don't think we'll try this place again. read more

I know my business won't hurt this place, seeing that I only go there a few times a year. I will chose North of the Boarder over Dogfather any day now. Years ago I would here sometimes 3 times a week. Servers and quality back then were far better. I would like to blame my bad experience on short staff but this is not the case. Three years ago when I was a loyal frequent customer I would walk in the door and the line cook would start my order and it would be ready by the time I paid. That was great service. Today they can't prepare my order the way I asked. Then when I get home I find my sandwich falling apart. Very disappointed. read more
