I work in the area and I'd been going to Wee-Dee's a couple times a month for the past 6-7 years. Every day it was the same, kinda cranky, old dude in a wheelchair at the register and every day it was really good Chicago Dogs or gyros or burgers. Over the past few months, in effort to save some money, I've stopped going out for lunch everywhere, but yesterday (3/18/26) I had a hankerin' for a good Chicago Dog, and their 2-dog combo meal has always been a great deal. I noticed right away that the cranky, old dude wasn't there. I got the dogs, but it was a plain bun -- no poppyseeds. It was dull, kinda dry, run-of-the-mill pickle relish. It was one thin slice of tomato on each. Not even a hint of celery salt. There was a pickle spear, some chopped onion, some mustard, but they seemed bored. It was as though the whole sandwich didn't want to be there. If you're a Chicago area dog stand -- unless you're serving up your own, special-recipe phenoma-dog -- the canon is The Chicago Dog: steamed poppyseed bun, steamed Vienna Beef frank, yellow mustard, chopped white onion, neon-green picallili relish, dill pickle spear, tomato wedges, sport peppers, and celery salt. When you ask the customer if they want it with "everything," THAT SPECIFIC LIST is what they expect. It's a very distinct flavor combination. Half-stepping or skimping on the ingredients is instantly noticeable -- to the eyes as well as the taste buds. This is the new improved location. They have moved since I have been back last and this spot is still I. The heart of Elgin, always packed and serving up monster portions for an extremely reasonable value. The restaurant is family owned and operated. I swear I see the same staff flipping burgers and dropping fries every time I am there. The restaurant is packed and the room is limited to get around so you say excuse me or sorry trying to get from the pop machine to your table but everyone is good about it. If you're looking for a really good gyro meal, this is your place. They're generous with their portion and their pita bread is huge. Meat is never over cooked, and plenty of it. Been coming here just for that for the longest time. I'd say their price is better than most places for how much you really you get. I wanted to try something else instead of getting my usual. But unfortunately, I did not like the spaghetti and meatball AT ALL. It had ZERO flavor, I'm not even sure if they used any seasoning for their meatball or sauce. The bread was flat, hard and tasted like cardboard. The spaghetti strands were stuck together and hard. Looks good in the photo but tasted the same if I licked my phone screen. Nothing bums me out more than spending money on a meal that you can't enjoy. The place is small but I always call to place my order for pick up and it's usually ready within 15 minutes. I stopped off here to pick up a gyro to take home during the middle of the pandemic and was taken aback that none of the staff had masks on and the place looked dirty and run down. I didn't appreciate that. Nor did I appreciate the guys behind the counter. I don't know if the snarky attitudes were because I had my mask on or they were just having a bad day. The biggest issue that I saw was that the place is pretty dirty tables not cleaned the benches you sit in crumbs everywhere. The floor in the kitchen has food everywhere and under the appliances that looks like it's been there forever. the main eating area floor was pretty dirty also. if they clean this place up and cut back on the grease it be awesome. A Great little find for me I was craving a Gyro so decided to see what was around by my work, and when I saw the Vienna Beef sign I was like hey what this place ? and if nothing else I know I can get a Chicago Dog and fries so I stopped in here and got me a Gyro and Fries and a small soda think it was around $6 that not bad for lunch, and the Gyro was yummy and the fries were fresh and hot, and as my BF pointed out the other day we have not had bad fries here I don't know what it is but we always got bad fries in Seattle, plus I love all the places that have fresh cut fries here went back a couple days ago and had the Maxwell Street Polish, it was flame grilled to a nice crispy goodness and they put all the topping on it, just like a Chicago Dog oh so good I will be making this a regular stop for lunch I can see read more

I came here in a rush for food. The staff was quick to take my order and the line wasn't too long. I ordered 2 gyro meals. A gyro meal consisted of a gyro, a soft drink, and a side of fries. Along with the 2 gyro meals, I also ordered 2 gyro sandwiches. I ordered them all two go and was on my way in a timely manner. When I finally 'dug into' the gyros (about 15 minutes after) the gyros were still warm and delicious. I'm a bit of a messy eater so my gyro kept kind of falling apart. Although I didn't stay to eat my food there, I did in fact make a quick scan of the place while I was there. The restaurant is quite small with about 30 seats. There were two wings, each has a TV. There was a restroom inside. There was NO outdoor seating, but they did have a fairly large parking lot for the size of the store. All in all, I had a great experience with the restaurant, staff, and food! I will surely come back to enjoy another delicious gyro or to try another item on their menu. read more

Can you say Greasy Spoon in Greek? Based on one review here is my bottom line comment. DON'T HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS. I only went in because most people on Yelp recommend this place highly, and I stopped in at the Village Offices and they recommended Wee Dee's, so I thought it must be delicious. FOOD COMMENTS: The pita bread was outstanding and honestly, it was a good value as a basic meal without fries or drink. But for my taste, there was too much salt and too much grease used to heat the chicken. My chicken pita was good. I would stop in again, if I was desperate, but I would ask them to fry my chicken dry without oil and I would take it to go. GENERAL COMMENTS: It's basically a tiny corner hot dog stand kind of place with seating for roughly 16-20 patrons. When I say greasy I mean windows, door handles, surfaces, and the food. I won't go into detail about the interior decor and state of cleanliness, but let's just say this place would benefit from a deep cleaning and a woman's touch. read more
