I wanted to so badly support the new owners & love the new EPH BUT no. 8 fried pickles, 8? The onion rings are too big. I wanted a BL not BLT and it barely had any bacon or mayo or anything. I hate the lay out of it too. Tacos are not good. The pretzels are good & cheese curds. I guess I will only come here if I am craving the cat fish. BUT the whole homey feeling is gone. It is just a restaurant now. Sucks but hey not everything lasts forever.

Cajun cod with roasted brussel sprouts and fried potatoes
    amy b.

First visit since the new ownership. I thought prices were high $19.99 this cod. My cod was supposed to be Cajun but I didn't taste any seasoning and the minute you cut it the crust fell off. It didn't come with tartar sauce or anything. I asked for tartar sauce and was charged $1.00. I was excited for brussel sprouts and fried potatoes which were good but they didn't look too pretty in the plate. They were very salty. The Mac n cheese was not the same as before. The sauce was not very thick or anything. Service was good. Just the overall cost of things on the menu seems high. Not planning on returning unfortunately.

Old fashion and mango tango - both very good!

I have been here a few times now. The ambiance is very casual but the service and food is always really good. Street parking can be a little tricky. This time I tried the mango tango cocktail that was excellent! The old fashioned was also very good. The goat cheese and marinara appetizer with Naan bread was fresh and delicious! The Kobe burger with boursin cheese cheese was fantastic and same with the sweet potato fries (that was an up charge). The waitress was also attentive. I will be back next time I am closer to the area.

Possible the best service ever from our server Brett S. Food is awesomeness. It's definitely worth the trip .

See, Grumpy Goat consists of two indoor dining areas and an outdoor seating area within a slightly larger building also that has a locker room, golf shop, and meeting room. The food ranges from pub food, to sandwiches, to flatbreads, to great steaks. Both times, the bar area was louder and people tend to focus on drinks and appetizers there. There's a separate dining room beyond the bar area where full dinners seem more common. Given that my 2 trips were in November and December, don't have a good sense for the outside area. I could just see that there are several tables overlooking the golf course. On certain nights, they have live music. Great variety of drinks, appetizers, sandwiches/burgers, and entrees. Can go inexpensive, or can get a filet mignon and spent a lot. Filling choices. Prices are quite reasonable.

Although the view of the golf course was phenomenal, it felt old, worn out. Since the food was exceptional, we gave Grumpy Goat another try and went on a Thursday. This time we sat in the bar. The atmosphere was so much better. The views were the same as the dining room. The best part was that there was live music. About once a month, my husband and I go on a Thursday for dinner and the music. In the warmer weather, the music is on the terrace. We usually have the artichoke dip appetizer. I get the chicken saltimbocca, my husband gets the Jambalaya, and our daughters get the Lobster Mac and Cheese. One of our daughters and I get the Vina do Campo Ribeiro white wine, the other daughter drinks the lemon martini, and my husband gets a beer from their extensive list. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I love a good dive bar but Eaton's has probably been the weirdest dive bar I have ever been to…read more After getting carded, the bartender made it very clear that they only accept cash, how old school! But I didn't care, cash is all I had. I have been to some seedy bars but Eaton's was straight up scary! I was afraid to touch anything in fear I may leave with a disease. Décor: The set up was super simple, mainly made up of a colossal bar that took up most of the place. There were some booths and couple of tables along the walls, but that was about it. The walls are made up of wood paneling and exposed brick, while the ceiling was made up of some antique moldings. There are only 2 restrooms, 1 men's and 1 women's, that don't have paper towels. They have that revolving towel in the machine that just rotates the same sheet over and over, nastiness. There is a pool table stuffed in one of the corners of the bar along with a couple of slot machine-like arcade games, very fitting for the casino town. The Crowd: Like any dive bar it doesn't exactly attract many posh patrons which is why I like them! If I wanted to hang out with preppy brosef's I would go to a club. Service: A-ok, not too welcoming when you first enter but after they card you & order a couple of drinks they seem to warm up a little. Liquid Courage On Tap: Bud, Bud Lite, PBR Originally I was going to order something in a can or a bottle, just to protect myself from any herpe that may be floating around waiting to infect me, but when Berto noticed they had mason jars we were drawn in. 24oz Baller mason jar of Bud for $4.50? I'll take my chances against the herpe! I think it's safe, I'm pretty sure alcohol sanitizes anyway. Right? Eats: I'm not gonna lie, I could have munched on some bar food but the looks of this fine establishment terrified me. I'm sure if you even ordered food they would have a hard time starting up the grill because it didn't seem like the sorta place you have dinner and a few drinks. They have a corn dog machine that looked like it hadn't been turned on in years. Eaton's offers a variety of bagged chips and nuts. There are also 2 liquor store like fridges filled with pop. I have to mention the pickled mystery items in the life-size cloudy jar on the bar. It was very Moe's Tavern. Sounds: Other than the drunken banter of the regulars it was karaoke night. I am always up for karaoke! I did notice the line was fairly large but I put in my request anyway. I have to give props to the KJ, he didn't waste time with filler, he got everyone up n' out and before I knew it it was my turn! Parking: It's downtown Elgin, so all street parking. Overall: Eaton's, you really freaked me out at first glance but after getting to know you I think we may have something here. I will keep a mental note to always bring cash and to eat before my outing in tackling another mason jar!

Honestly, you couldn't have found the manager at this place with a search party, a flashlight, and a bloodhound. If he was dressed as Bozo the Clown, at least then someone might've spotted him -- but apparently the invisibility cloak was working overtime that night. And the cherry on top? The Coke that soaked my friend was still sitting on the bill at the end like nothing ever happened. No adjustment, no acknowledgement, just vibes. That told us everything we needed to know about how much they care about customers once something goes wrong. Customer care: nuclear-level failure. Solid F.
