Burnt burger

I visited Saturday night with family. The place was empty. The waitress had an attitude. The food came burger was burned. I brought it to the waitress and she said that's it supposed to look like this. I have attached pictures of my poor experience.

I wanted to so badly support the new owners & love the new EPH BUT no. 8 fried pickles, 8? The onion rings are too big. I wanted a BL not BLT and it barely had any bacon or mayo or anything. I hate the lay out of it too. Tacos are not good. The pretzels are good & cheese curds. I guess I will only come here if I am craving the cat fish. BUT the whole homey feeling is gone. It is just a restaurant now. Sucks but hey not everything lasts forever.

3 onion rings

Got 2 orders of onion rings on a delivery order. $12.99 each and it was 3 large onion rings and dipping sauce. If you had a large onion you would get about 4 servings per onion. $1-2 per onion to make over $50. And you can use the middle of the onion for diced or sliced onions in other meals or sandwiches. Talk about screwing your customers.

Cajun cod with roasted brussel sprouts and fried potatoes
amy b.

First visit since the new ownership. I thought prices were high $19.99 this cod. My cod was supposed to be Cajun but I didn't taste any seasoning and the minute you cut it the crust fell off. It didn't come with tartar sauce or anything. I asked for tartar sauce and was charged $1.00. I was excited for brussel sprouts and fried potatoes which were good but they didn't look too pretty in the plate. They were very salty. The Mac n cheese was not the same as before. The sauce was not very thick or anything. Service was good. Just the overall cost of things on the menu seems high. Not planning on returning unfortunately.

Old fashion and mango tango - both very good!
Heather M.

I have been here a few times now. The ambiance is very casual but the service and food is always really good. Street parking can be a little tricky. This time I tried the mango tango cocktail that was excellent! The old fashioned was also very good. The goat cheese and marinara appetizer with Naan bread was fresh and delicious! The Kobe burger with boursin cheese cheese was fantastic and same with the sweet potato fries (that was an up charge). The waitress was also attentive. I will be back next time I am closer to the area.

The Grumpy Goat feels like a rustic supper club but with an energetic vibe and signature menu items highlighted with a goat. The Bulleit Bourboun burger and fries were outstanding, and I look forward to returning and trying a steak. We held a meeting for nearly 70 people in their back room and had helpful amenities needed and tasty food. People especially liked the skillet dip and sausage and peppers. Plenty of on-site parking too and an innovative cocktail menu in addition to standard beer, seltzers and wines. And I could tell from the conversations between servers and customers in the bar area, that there are many regulars who keep coming back here. I can definitely see why. Thank you again, Chris and team for an outstanding experience.

See, Grumpy Goat consists of two indoor dining areas and an outdoor seating area within a slightly larger building also that has a locker room, golf shop, and meeting room. The food ranges from pub food, to sandwiches, to flatbreads, to great steaks. Both times, the bar area was louder and people tend to focus on drinks and appetizers there. There's a separate dining room beyond the bar area where full dinners seem more common. Given that my 2 trips were in November and December, don't have a good sense for the outside area. I could just see that there are several tables overlooking the golf course. On certain nights, they have live music. Great variety of drinks, appetizers, sandwiches/burgers, and entrees. Can go inexpensive, or can get a filet mignon and spent a lot. Filling choices. Prices are quite reasonable.

Everything I've had has been fresh, flavorful, and consistently great. Their Friday night fish fry is easily some of the best around and is something I look forward to whenever I can make it in. In the past we have tried burgers and the crab cake sliders which are favorites, but today we took it easy with a couple of cocktails and some candied bacon. He ordered the Stag Sour which is similar to a blackberry sour but with fresh blackberry puree which elevates the drink and mellows the whisky taste. I ordered the Bloody Mary with the RST skewer- amazing! Pro tip: you can order the skewer for $1.50 which would be a nice addition to any beer too! The candied bacon is peppery thick cut bacon slices with a sticky sweet glaze that is a perfect snack. And you can't beat the price at $7 for four of these big slices! Service was quick, the atmosphere seems busy but is quite chill, and we loved that they had sport on the tv to go with our drinks. We sat ourselves on the outside patio that was popping off with lots of friendly banter across tables, good looking plates, and loved that it was a dog friendly patio!! Huge win for the area! We ordered a couple beers (Stella and the local Crystal Lake Beach Blonde Ale) as well as the October wing special- Blackberry bacon glazed wings. Wow! The charbroil on the wings gave an insane depth of Smokey flavor that was perfectly matched by the thick, sweet and salty syrup that coated each crispy wing. Killer! They did not skimp on the sauce was much appreciated! We loved the ranch too. If it's not homemade, they did a fantastic job selecting that type because I would have drank it if I could! Prices were more than fair and the service was quick once seated. A really cool spot for a quick afternoon bites and brew with friends! It was nice to see big parties there that were clearly regulars because it really set the townie feel. Would love to come back for St Patrick's Day! I love a good dive bar but Eaton's has probably been the weirdest dive bar I have ever been to…read more After getting carded, the bartender made it very clear that they only accept cash, how old school! But I didn't care, cash is all I had. I have been to some seedy bars but Eaton's was straight up scary! I was afraid to touch anything in fear I may leave with a disease. Décor: The set up was super simple, mainly made up of a colossal bar that took up most of the place. There were some booths and couple of tables along the walls, but that was about it. The walls are made up of wood paneling and exposed brick, while the ceiling was made up of some antique moldings. There are only 2 restrooms, 1 men's and 1 women's, that don't have paper towels. They have that revolving towel in the machine that just rotates the same sheet over and over, nastiness. There is a pool table stuffed in one of the corners of the bar along with a couple of slot machine-like arcade games, very fitting for the casino town. The Crowd: Like any dive bar it doesn't exactly attract many posh patrons which is why I like them! If I wanted to hang out with preppy brosef's I would go to a club. Service: A-ok, not too welcoming when you first enter but after they card you & order a couple of drinks they seem to warm up a little. Liquid Courage On Tap: Bud, Bud Lite, PBR Originally I was going to order something in a can or a bottle, just to protect myself from any herpe that may be floating around waiting to infect me, but when Berto noticed they had mason jars we were drawn in. 24oz Baller mason jar of Bud for $4.50? I'll take my chances against the herpe! I think it's safe, I'm pretty sure alcohol sanitizes anyway. Right? Eats: I'm not gonna lie, I could have munched on some bar food but the looks of this fine establishment terrified me. I'm sure if you even ordered food they would have a hard time starting up the grill because it didn't seem like the sorta place you have dinner and a few drinks. They have a corn dog machine that looked like it hadn't been turned on in years. Eaton's offers a variety of bagged chips and nuts. There are also 2 liquor store like fridges filled with pop. I have to mention the pickled mystery items in the life-size cloudy jar on the bar. It was very Moe's Tavern. Sounds: Other than the drunken banter of the regulars it was karaoke night. I am always up for karaoke! I did notice the line was fairly large but I put in my request anyway. I have to give props to the KJ, he didn't waste time with filler, he got everyone up n' out and before I knew it it was my turn! Parking: It's downtown Elgin, so all street parking. Overall: Eaton's, you really freaked me out at first glance but after getting to know you I think we may have something here. I will keep a mental note to always bring cash and to eat before my outing in tackling another mason jar!

This is a dive bar with no pretense what so ever…read more This is your classic rectangle bar designed for efficiency. The bar tender can spy everyone at a glance and so can you! The building façade is probably intimidating for the squeamish. Eaton's has no problem with that, nor do I. Cheers!
