Mid-meal, our server accidentally dumped an entire Coca-Cola on my friend -- full birthday soda shower. Look, accidents happen. Glasses spill. That part we could've laughed off. What we couldn't laugh off was the absolute disappearance of management. No manager came over. No proper apology. No help cleaning. Nobody checking if we were okay. Honestly, you couldn't have found the manager at this place with a search party, a flashlight, and a bloodhound. If he was dressed as Bozo the Clown, at least then someone might've spotted him -- but apparently the invisibility cloak was working overtime that night. And the cherry on top? We ordered pizzas from Walnut Speakeasy for a celebration we were having at work. We ordered 12 pizzas and salads. They got the supreme, cheese, veggie, cheese and sausage, and cheese and pepperoni pizzas. Picking up the order was fast and easy. The pizzas were still hot when they arrived and warm when eaten. We loved this place! A very pleasant surprise! Looks sketchy from the outside but is clean, fresh, and nice on the inside. Several screens but not loud. Most screens showed a variety of sports, but some were thankfully other subjects like funny videos, etc. Food and service were top notch and IMHO whoever is running this place knows what they're doing. I went here for the first time based on other yelp reviews. There is ample parking in the side parking lot. The ambiance is nicely decorated and rustic. While the waitress was nice, she could have been more attentive (she was busy sitting down with her coworkers for a while). The the beer selection is ample but the cocktail choices they offer are limited. However they offer a few cocktails of the month. Also when I asked for a double Grey Goose and lemonade they literally doubled the price of the drink. Instead it should be $2 to $3 more. However the saganaki was fantastic and was a nice portion. Highly recommended! The Parmesan crusted honey mustard chicken was fresh and delicious. While I'm not a fan of honey mustard, you cannot taste it in this dish. I requested extra lemon herb sauce based on another review - great advice! The broccoli was very good. However, the mashed potatoes tasted like they came from box. I instead recommend subbing the side with a side of fettuccine pasta with extra lemon herb sauce over it. Also, the carrot cake was a nice portion, and fresh and delicious. Before you move any further this isn't an actual speak easy like you're used to in the city of Chicago or any big city. This restaurant is basically a sports bar. The food & drink prices are awesome I give them that. But the service was not very welcoming. It isn't the worst service I've experienced but it's pretty up there. Walnut is a cool space, once you get inside, it's definitely a worthwhile stop. The parking lot, and location, are the reason for my dedicated Star. The parking lot is awful, the worst, most terrible lot ever. They really need to redo. That said...The service has always been fine or better. The food is good! The nachos are amazing, plenty of protein, cheese and veggies. Enough for way more than two people. The cheese curds are absurdly huge! Soooo many! Feeds four, easily, and they are delicious. Southwest egg roles are hit or miss, they are sometimes under cooked, but tasty. I love their sweet potato fries and side salads! Many rave about the wings! And, me of my friends had a veggie wrap, she loved it with sweet potato tater tots and bbq sauce. The only two times I've been here have been after a play performance, arriving as a part of a large group, which I know makes things more difficult for the wait staff, but this is a BIG place, and the first time around, there were no issues. Not so with my most recent visit. I invite you to sit in my seat a moment, see from my eyes, feel from my heart (if you dare'st). You love the play you're in, and the cast has become like family. But also eating away at you is the thought that your real loved ones have been getting less and less of your time, as the show demands more and more. Going out for revelries only makes matters worse, but the closeness formed makes the show better. Then it hits you: you'll stay out just long enough to order some food to go, maybe have one tonic and lime, then bid farewell to the stage family and spend your time with your significant other. You spot the Greek Salad and see that you can add salmon - their favorite! - so you place the order in record time. Then you wait, and wait, and wait. You see others getting their meals and shift on your stool. Hot meals, fried meals, meals of all assortments coming out. You do the math in your head, knowing your significant other will be leaving soon to me you at your home. And time is running short. You get another tonic, but it does nothing to heal your nerves. You are headed for disaster, but powerless, helpless, hopeless, until finally - huh! - from the opposite end of the table you hear people asking who ordered a salad to go. You lament the fact that everyone now knows your plans to depart, but hurriedly pay, and leave a tip reflective of the difficulties in dealing with large groups. Then away to your car, taking flight as only a hybrid can do, you head homewards, and you actually make great time! But you still arrive after your significant other. At your own home. Never a good feeling. But worry not, reader, you are the hero, you have the salad, you have the salmon, you are saved! Until you take it out of the bag and see: just a salad. Just A salad. If it was just a salad, just cold leaves and cubes of cheese, HOW did it take so long. If it was just a salad, how did your healthy tip bring the total to $25? Probably because the salmon was a healthy $8 up charge. Frantic, you text the group still at the restaurant, sending them a picture, asking if anyone has seen your salmon. They talk to the wait staff who ensures them it just got put in wrong, it didn't have salmon. The receipt begs to differ. Your perfect, adrenaline-fueled recall begs to differ. But what can you do? You have failed. No wait, not YOU, reader, YOU haven't failed. The Walnut Speakeasy has failed. It has failed you as it appears to have failed so many others. Google reviews rated this place better than 4 stars so we thought we would give it a try. It was almost empty when we arrived and still it took a good 10 minutes to see our waiter. This most basic tasks of taking an order were skipped over such as how would you like that cooked? It comes with potatoes or rice which would you like? Extras were asked for but not brought. Just a sad overall experience. The food tasted ok but some items were cold. The menu is rife with extra charges which seemed very punitive in nature. The interior was very nice with a huge bar and parking was easy. With so many other places to go for a meal I cannot recommend a visit. read more

I always come here for their wings even when it's not on Thursday's. One of my favorite places for wings because they have wet garlic Parmesan. Hard to find some places that even have garlic Parmesan and usually it's a dry rub. It can get really packed on Thursdays during the evening. There has always been a wait. 15-20 mins at the most. I kept calling to see if they were open during the pandemic. Many times they didn't pick up but just recently I was able to place an order for curbside pick up. A friend said they were open until 2 but I'm not sure as of now. I would call early if you're thinking about picking up food here. read more

The food has gone downhill, it's overpriced for being very basic and the drinks aren't worth the money

The traditional wings were over cooked and were like chewing cardboard. The mango habanero sauce was really good, perfect combination of sweet and heat. Cobb salad was all romaine lettuce with about a teaspoon of bacon half an egg and about 1/8 of an avocado. 8 dollars for a piece of cake that isn't enough for a 4 year old also is pathetic. This restaurant has really just gone downhill. 75 dollars for a salad, 12 original wings, 12 boneless and a piece of cake, not worth it. We received a burger cooked to barely Medium - see attached photo.(at least there was no tomato.....) I've lived in Elgin for about 3 years and have known of the existence of the Walnut Speakeasy and assumed it was solely a bar. So when I was invited there for lunch on a Sunday afternoon I was surprised. But this is a legit restaurant. With real food! I ordered the Mustard Crusted Chicken - the description won me over with "lemon cream sauce." There definitely could have been more of that sauce, it was so good and the chicken itself was great but it was far too herby for me, sooo much thyme or rosemary, I can't remember, and that's just my taste that I hate thyme and rosemary but it would have been nice if they had been included in the description. It came with broccoli which was boring but oh well. It was a chilly day and I lol'd in my head when my friend asked if they had hot chocolate but they do! He asked for it extra chocolately and they happily obliged and asked if he wanted whipped cream :) Some people near us ordered buffalo wings and they smelled amaaaazing. And I haven't tried them yet but any place that has fried onion straws is a place I want to frequent. In fact the appetizer menu looks amazing. I want to go back for sure. read more
