A large cheese pizza, cut into small square slices, is placed on a metal tray on a wooden bar counter. The pizza has a golden-brown crust and melted cheese. Behind the pizza, there are condiment shakers, including salt, pepper, and grated cheese, along with bar supplies and bottles. The setting appears to be a casual restaurant or bar with a dark interior.

Fantastic serve and great thin crust pizza. Can't beat the Saturday/Sunday deal of $20 for a pitcher and large pizza!

Pizza was good but dead fish was unappetizing and appalling to look at, Rip Fishy yikes.....

Love Nick's...still! Get the bruschetta! Get the Italian Chopped Salad!! Get any pizza with toppings!!! I love the taco specialty pizza...Try the specialty pizzas on Tuesdays, it's their BOGO carry out day. Totally worth trying something new for BOGO. Morgan is the best server in the area, she's great every time. And she is always thinking two steps ahead. Nick, the owner is on hand a lot. He's really approachable which is so important in an owner. Go for one of their community events...Tonight was Santa, and we loved it. Just try Nick's. You'll be happy you did. (Just don't try the lemonade, it's awful...lol)

Living in Florida now, I don't get back here often but absolutely love Nicks pizza! When I moved back to Illinois in 1996, the Crystal lake location was the first place I had pizza back home and Nicks remained a family favorite. We moved in 2018 so I have only been here 2-3 times in the last 3 years. Love it though!! We used to have birthday parties and other celebrations here. They always do a great job!!

Bruschetta - A white oval plate holds several pieces of bruschetta, each topped with cheese, diced tomatoes, chopped herbs, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze. The toasted bread slices are visible beneath the toppings, and some chopped nuts are sprinkled on top. The dish is served on a dark wooden table, with a wine glass partially visible in the background.

The food here is always good. This was my first time getting the bruschetta and it was on point with my wine. The ambiance here is also always inviting and have never been disappointed with service.

Miniature chicken wings. - A foam takeout container holds multiple buffalo chicken wings coated in a reddish sauce, with some sauce visible on the paper lining. A person's hand is reaching in to pick up one wing. In the background, there is a small cup of dipping sauce, possibly ranch or blue cheese, on a separate container. The setting appears to be a casual dining or takeout environment.

See, Grumpy Goat consists of two indoor dining areas and an outdoor seating area within a slightly larger building also that has a locker room, golf shop, and meeting room. The food ranges from pub food, to sandwiches, to flatbreads, to great steaks. Both times, the bar area was louder and people tend to focus on drinks and appetizers there. There's a separate dining room beyond the bar area where full dinners seem more common. Given that my 2 trips were in November and December, don't have a good sense for the outside area. I could just see that there are several tables overlooking the golf course. On certain nights, they have live music. Great variety of drinks, appetizers, sandwiches/burgers, and entrees. Can go inexpensive, or can get a filet mignon and spent a lot. Filling choices. Prices are quite reasonable.

Although the view of the golf course was phenomenal, it felt old, worn out. Since the food was exceptional, we gave Grumpy Goat another try and went on a Thursday. This time we sat in the bar. The atmosphere was so much better. The views were the same as the dining room. The best part was that there was live music. About once a month, my husband and I go on a Thursday for dinner and the music. In the warmer weather, the music is on the terrace. We usually have the artichoke dip appetizer. I get the chicken saltimbocca, my husband gets the Jambalaya, and our daughters get the Lobster Mac and Cheese. One of our daughters and I get the Vina do Campo Ribeiro white wine, the other daughter drinks the lemon martini, and my husband gets a beer from their extensive list. I highly recommend this restaurant!

But I didn't care, cash is all I had. I have been to some seedy bars but Eaton's was straight up scary! I was afraid to touch anything in fear I may leave with a disease. Décor: The set up was super simple, mainly made up of a colossal bar that took up most of the place. There were some booths and couple of tables along the walls, but that was about it. The walls are made up of wood paneling and exposed brick, while the ceiling was made up of some antique moldings. There are only 2 restrooms, 1 men's and 1 women's, that don't have paper towels. They have that revolving towel in the machine that just rotates the same sheet over and over, nastiness. There is a pool table stuffed in one of the corners of the bar along with a couple of slot machine-like arcade games, very fitting for the casino town. The Crowd: Like any dive bar it doesn't exactly attract many posh patrons which is why I like them! If I wanted to hang out with preppy brosef's I would go to a club. Service: A-ok, not too welcoming when you first enter but after they card you & order a couple of drinks they seem to warm up a little. Liquid Courage On Tap: Bud, Bud Lite, PBR Originally I was going to order something in a can or a bottle, just to protect myself from any herpe that may be floating around waiting to infect me, but when Berto noticed they had mason jars we were drawn in. 24oz Baller mason jar of Bud for $4.50? I'll take my chances against the herpe! I think it's safe, I'm pretty sure alcohol sanitizes anyway. Right? Eats: I'm not gonna lie, I could have munched on some bar food but the looks of this fine establishment terrified me. I'm sure if you even ordered food they would have a hard time starting up the grill because it didn't seem like the sorta place you have dinner and a few drinks. They have a corn dog machine that looked like it hadn't been turned on in years. Eaton's offers a variety of bagged chips and nuts. There are also 2 liquor store like fridges filled with pop. I have to mention the pickled mystery items in the life-size cloudy jar on the bar. It was very Moe's Tavern. Sounds: Other than the drunken banter of the regulars it was karaoke night. I am always up for karaoke! I did notice the line was fairly large but I put in my request anyway. I have to give props to the KJ, he didn't waste time with filler, he got everyone up n' out and before I knew it it was my turn! Parking: It's downtown Elgin, so all street parking. Overall: Eaton's, you really freaked me out at first glance but after getting to know you I think we may have something here. I will keep a mental note to always bring cash and to eat before my outing in tackling another mason jar!
