You know, we never had White Castle in Seattle or LA while I was growing up. The Harold and Kumar go to White Castle movie, however, piqued my interest a bit, so went we moved to Chicagoland almost 3 years ago I saw they were here! So of course - with some delay- I had to try them. Ok- so let me get it out front here- I've always considered them to be kinda "ghetto". The fast food you eat because you can afford it, not because it was great So.... why did we go yesterday? And how was it? We wanted a small/light lunch, so Hubby ordered a couple original sliders - at just over a buck each it seemed - in these inflationary times- worth it. I had a panko fish and chicken. Hubby liked his little original sliders - that made me happy. But my god. The panko fish and chicken sliders? Not much flavor going on there. And I asked for no cheese, and yet the panko fish had cheese on it. Still - Have to say I wasn't impressed. Now I understand why Kumar had the craving- when you're high anything will hit the spot- and White Castle - with hardly any flavors - was "anything". Will I return? Probably not soon. But was it worth a try? Sure! But eat here only when you're on a budget - you'll be happier that way. read more

We love occasionally going here to get burgers as we grew up with them. It's a guilty pleasure. I had to rate them as 1 this time as they left the sauce off all the burgers. They did this last time too! We emphasized everything on them including the sauce. Repeated with sauce! It should be a no brainer as the burgers are supposed to come with sauce!! Big fan of this location. 24/7 schedule is super convenient and they always have fair prices. Food is good and I have only had one experience with an incorrect order. Only real problem I've had, was the attitude of the staff. It's not very endearing when the people taking your order look and act like they don't want to be there. Despite the depressing energy of the staff, they do a pretty good job with busy lines and they keep the establishment clean. Good job! read more

Have to stop at a White Castle when you are in Chicago, and this was the nearest one. There was absolutly no cars in the parking lot, so I thought the location was closed but it was open (the employees must park somewhere else). When you enter, there is the menu located, but you must walk around the corner to actually order. We ordered a 10 pack of cheese sliders ($10), 3 chicken sliders ($2 a piece), and order of onion rings ($3). Really good onion rings (real sliced onion)...pretty sure prepared from frozen but miles better than the ones from BK. The chicken sliders are the same size bun as sliders, so they are small...same price as McChicken but probably half the size. And the sliders were what we expected...barely can taste the meat, but that's not the point...the meat, onion, pickles, cheese, and steamed bread just melds into one food unit, giving it a taste that can't be duplicated. All of us had eaten lunch about 3 hours before, so none of us were really hungry... but the 5 of us were still able to devour all that was mentioned above. They have a Coke free style machine, and will give you water cups if asked nicely. They also have gender-neutral private bathrooms and plenty of seating space. We went for the 2nd time for Valentine's Day, and it was really nice. It was a nice setup, closed the side door, and had a reservation desk at the front area. The hostess seated us at our numbered table. Our waiter was very enthusiastic.....sorry didn't get his name. We went the year before, and it was questionable at best. So much better this year. Okay I never realized how great their breakfast items are. You can get a freshly cracked scrambled egg and cheese slider with your choice of cheese for a fairly low price. Their impossible burger slider is also wonderful. The only issue I have is that they are very slow regardless of the time or day. I came in to dine in for a bit and try the food. The restaurant itself smells like vomit and it was very dirty. But I'm kinda used to that because that's how it is at most fast food places. Service was fast and efficient. I tried the Loaded Fries. They're basically fries with cheese sauce, bacon and what appears to be ranch (I could be wrong). But it was so good! Sliders, gut bombs, no matter what you call them, the small square burgers cooked on a bed of onions, are a distinctly American tradition. The White Castle chain was one of the first fast food establishments, started in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas. Americans were reticent to eat ground beef at the time, due to the popularity of Upton Sinclair's novel of the meat packing industry in "The Jungle." Walter Anderson, along with his partner Billy Ingram, made their outlet out of white porcelain enamel on the outside, and stainless steel inside, believing the scheme denoted "cleanliness." I used to visit This White Castle location in High School and it was exactly what White Castle should be. This visit was very disappointing, the drive through took absolutely forever, and it began at the speaker. I say this with respect but It was very difficult to understand the person taking orders. After multiple "sorry can you repeat that" exchanges the order was in. I then waited at the window an extended period for any fast food restaurant. Long enough that we looked at each other in amazement. I watched as the employees very slowly walked around putting orders together, it reminded me of the DMV scene in the movie Zootopia with the sloths. Zero hustle. Once we got our food the burgers were in the bag upside down!! My burgers fell apart into the bag and on top of that the fries I ordered were under cooked and some were even half frozen in the middle.
