I can't tell you how awesome it was to work with Anh - her personality is just fantastic - and I would definitely recommend her to anyone who is getting married or has a special event that they want to look great at. Anh is fantastic! I went to her to get my eyelashes lifted/tinted and my eyebrows tinted as well! Having straight Asian lashes it was nice to have someone who knew my struggles! Despite seeing several before and after pictures of her amazing work, I was still a bit skeptical about eyelash lifting. Boy, am I glad I got it done! She was great about explaining what she was doing and making sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. She was SO gentle! I naturally just tear a lot, and I was worried it wouldn't work, but Anh was really good at mitigating my overactive tear ducts. During the process, she was really easy to talk to in general and about products that would help grow and thicken the small amount of lashes I had. After I looked into the mirror I was blown away! I was probably more worried about my eyebrow tinting than the eyelash lifting, because a bad eyebrow really throws everything else off. And it's very noticeable. But Anh is definitely a pro. You can tell with her own amazing eyebrows that she really knows what eyebrow shapes complement your face. I switch between tweezing my own eyebrows and having them threaded, and despite my attempts and efforts to even out my eyebrow shapes it just hasn't worked out. It took Anh probably less than two seconds to fix something I had been trying to fix for forever. She is very reasonably priced and does an amazing job! I got a lash lift done by Anh several weeks ago before heading down to Cancun for a wedding and boy did I LOVE IT!! I went snorkeling and swimming with the lift and it held up without any difficulty. Going in, I wasn't sure how well everything would hold up given my straight Asian lashes, but they definitely lasted 4-5 weeks before I had to start curling my lashes again (they grew out a little funky at first with a kink given how straight they are at baseline, but this has relaxed over time). I was extremely happy with her meticulous work and service in her cozy home, and actually took a snooze during the lash lift process. Anh is the BEST!! First, I've been on Yelp for 7+ years & I use it for everything, but this is the second review I've ever written - so I suppose I care a lot about this! Warning: I'm about to go into a lot of detail, so if you want the short version, skip to the end.   For a bit of background, I'm pretty crap at makeup & prefer a minimalist approach as I tend to be a perfectionist, but always seem to be running late.. and because my eyelashes are a mixed type (my dad is asian, so I have some wonderfully thick straight lashes that point downward and refuse to hold a curl), it always took me about 5-10 mins just to curl them to the extent I like them to be. Anyway, I was in NYC for work so I decided on a lash lift at a highly rated place. I was much less excited when the aesthetician told me at the beginning that my lashes were damaged so they would likely only curl up to 85% of what it should be. Even that was a lie. Absolute crap. The only difference was that my eyes were a bit red, and later got to pull some glue out of my eyes. I was extremely disappointed, because my use of an eyelash curler and waterproof mascara - and that they just aren't the type to curl?! - is what led to this problem.   I did more research - wow, most people had a problem with their eyelashes curling too much - and figured I'd try again just once more. I was back in Atlanta from my travels that week, and found that Anh had amazing reviews and some lash lift pictures. I wondered if she could work a miracle.   I wrote Anh a ridiculously long request for an appointment via Yelp, and explained my previous experience, asking if it would be okay to try again 3 weeks later. She responded pretty quickly, within an hour or so I believe, and informed me that 1) whoever did my lash lift previously didn't do it right, 2) lash lifts are $100 with her, and 3) she had availability the next day! I was really happy, but didn't want to get my hopes up. Because I was driving from Acworth, I was about an hour away, and got stuck in a bit of traffic, which made me late for my appointment. I felt terrible; Anh called while I was still 10 minutes out to see if I was still coming - I let her know my status and told her I completely understood if she could no longer see me. However, she cheerfully replied that I didn't need to worry, and that she thought she could get it done before the next client. Phew.. I get there and park in the cul-de-sac, and run up to the door, where Anh smiles and leads me inside. She was very amicable and made me feel at ease. I laid down on the table - quite comfortable, by the way - and she got to work. As she started, she noted that she couldn't believe the the previous person had told me those lies about my eyelashes - she said they seemed pretty healthy, and that they would definitely curl. I thought that seemed like a bold statement to make, but for some reason it was comforting to hear. She went on to say that some people may try to make excuses like that because they are new and haven't practiced enough; therefore they aren't confident. It made a lot of sense, actually. I ended up asking a lot of questions and she answered all of them. By that time, it was the moment of truth. I looked in the mirror - YES!! MY lashes were beautifully curled; Anh had made no promises that she couldn't keep. It was as if my eyelashes naturally looked like that, they didn't have any odd angles from a curler and the little lashes were curled upwards as well (again, I'm not the best at makeup, really..). I was so happy I asked to give her a hug haha. She also gave me a new little mascara applicator (to use as a brush) and some tips to maintain it before I left. I couldn't stop beaming throughout the day.   I've been back to get another lift, and the second time was just as great. I asked for a bit more of a dramatic curl this time, and she delivered, explaining what she was doing each step of the way. I mentioned that I'm a bit of a perfectionist; any sort of inconsistency never fails to catch my eye. I haven't been able to find any problem so far. It's easy to tell that Anh is extremely thorough in her work and takes care with each and every detail, which I truly appreciate. Thanks to Anh, I don't have to spend $40 on a new eyelash curler every few months (I travel weekly, so they usually get bent or lost, or I run out of the extra silicon pads), I don't have to spend 20 minutes on eye makeup before leaving the house (I can wake up and go, even without makeup; it feels amazing!!), and I don't fear humidity and rain like I used to (seriously, the second any form of water would touch my lashes, the curl would come undone in .5 seconds; with this lash lift it just lasts no matter what I throw at it). It's been a few months now since my hubs and I finally tied the knot, and it's about time that I review my wedding vendors! As someone who relies on Yelp reviews for pretty much any type of business I am looking for, there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to find most (if not all) of my wedding vendors through Yelp. At the time, I didn't have any close friends who had recently gotten married in Atlanta, so I had no clue who would be able to do my wedding makeup and hair. Sure, my sister, Crystal H., is amazing at doing my makeup on certain special occasions, but she was my maid of honor and I did not want to have friends or family "working" on my wedding day. Thanks to Yelp, not only did I find Anh Bui, but she also happened to be referred to Crystal H. by one of her Facebook friends! This, and looking through the photos on Anh's website, confirmed that she was the one I should go with! *Makeup & Hair Trial* Since a makeup trial is included in the price of the wedding makeup and hair session, I was fortunate to be able to schedule the trial the day of my engagement photo shoot. I did ask to reschedule the trial, but Anh was kind enough to accommodate my request. Although she had offered to come over to my place to do the trial, I decided to go over to her apartment instead of my cramped studio apartment. The makeup that was used on me included: * Makeup Forever HD foundation * Urban Decay Naked 2 eyeshadows * M.A.C Bronzed * Dior mini bronze * M.A.C Pro 15 concealer * Makeup Forever powder 115 Prior to this makeup trial, the last time I got my makeup "professionally" done was probably for my high school prom (which didn't turn out so great), so I was very pleased with how the trial turned out. The trial and wedding makeup includes false eyelashes, which I had never used before, so it was good have the opportunity to try them out. The long, curly hairstyle that I had desired turned out very nice, too. Unfortunately, just less than three hours after the trial makeup was applied and hairstyle done, one of my false eyelashes started to peel off and my curls were straightening out. =( I understood that the eyelash glue probably didn't adhere well because my eyes were watering while they were being applied, and my hair is naturally straight so the curls probably needed a ton more hairspray. Additionally, the feedback that I got from others who later saw photos of me was that the shade of foundation used on me looked a little too dark for my light complexion. Subsequently, I provided Anh all of the above feedback in preparation for my big day for which she subsequently expressed appreciation. *Wedding Day Makeup & Hair* Along with my hair and makeup, three of my bridesmaids wanted to have their up-dos done by Anh and another stylist Anh worked with. It's great that travel within a 20-mile radius of Anh's home is included in her total cost for wedding makeup and hair (there is an additional fee if the venue is further), so Anh and the other stylist did our hair and my makeup at our wedding venue. Through email conversations, Anh communicated that they would need a total of 5 hours to do our hair and my wedding makeup. Since I wanted my wedding photographer to capture photos of me "getting ready," including getting my hair and makeup done, I had asked Anh if she could do my hair and makeup last. To make a long story short, there was clearly a miscommunication because both she and the other stylist left earlier than I had calculated. So we didn't get the professional shots we wanted, but Anh was kind enough to let my brother borrow her camera to take some photos of her working on my hair and makeup. My wedding hair and makeup turned out beautiful! Anh used airbrush foundation on me for my wedding makeup, which was different from the liquid used during my trial. I loved the airbrush makeup, which truly lasted the entire day! Amazing! However, although Anh did use a ton more hairspray for my curls on my wedding day, they still started to come loose before our wedding ceremony even started. (Note: We were outside in the hot sun for our pre-ceremony photos, so that probably made my curls come loose sooner.) Anh does offer to return for touch-ups for an additional cost, but I had opted out of this. So my sister and maid of honor, Crystal - armed with a curling iron - touched up my hair prior to the ceremony. Overall, Beauty by Anh (previously known as Makeup & Hair by Anh) gets 4 stars for the gorgeous makeup and hairstyling done by Anh Bui. Anh is incredibly kind and easy to talk to! I highly recommend Anh for any professional makeup and/or hairstyling that ladies in the Atlanta area may be seeking, and I would hire her again for special occasions in the future! =) P.S. Anh is the best! She did my hair and makeup for my wedding as well as several of my bridesmaids. I had girls with different skin tones, hair types, and ethnicities and Anh enhanced their own unique natural beauty. My bridesmaids looked so beautiful! I don't normally wear makeup so I went into my trial with no real idea of what I wanted. Anh was able to take me through the various stages of makeup until I found something I was comfortable with. She was incredibly sweet the whole time, asking my opinion and how I was feeling. I don't think I've ever felt as pretty as I did after Anh was finished with me! My eyes really popped with the mink lashes she picked out and I loved it. I knew I had makeup on, but my face didn't feel heavy at all. And my hair looked great! I went to Anh for an eyelash lift and could not be happier with the results. Finding her location was easy and the setup she has is very bright and professional. The time it took for the lift went by pretty quickly. Since I've watched her time lapse videos from her Instagram (lazhup), I knew what she was doing each step of the way. Considering how disastrous my last eyelash lift was (by someone else), I appreciate Anh's eye for perfection. Anh is a godsend! As a person who rarely ever wears makeup, she makes me look like I've spent quality time getting ready in the morning when I really just roll out of bed. I've tried her lash lift and her lash extension services and love both! She's very meticulous and detail-oriented, definitely important when you're finding someone who's going near your eyes. I started off with lash lifts then moved my way onto extensions and now I come back every couple of weeks to get them retouched. Anh knew which extension length would best compliment my eye and gave me recommendations to try as I was completely clueless. And Anh's prices are definitely better than some of the other beauticians' prices. Looking good and not being broke, a win-win for me! read more
