My last visit to this location was in 2009. I stopped coming here because of poor customer service, lack of staff diversity, and expensive prices. It's been a very long time and here is how my visit went: Customer service: 8.5/10 I knew exactly what I was shopping for and had not planned to look at anything else. So, when I made a beeline to a product display, I was immediately helped by someone. The employee found what I needed instantly and she was very sweet. The store was not crowded since it was lunch hour and I was rung up quickly. Though, I am confused as to why the cashier thought it was a good idea to put large bottles in a small bag? Diversity: 2/10 This visit, I did not see much diversity among the staff. This has been the downfall for me with any Beauty Brands store I visit. They do carry products for minorities in the stores, so why not have staff that is also diverse that can provide insight on those products? Plus, it really is not reflective of our society today. Product selection/price: 9/10 Anyone that visits a BB knows they carry higher end products with prices that may be pricy to some. For me, it's all about the reason you are going to this type of store. In my case, I needed something very specific that I did not want to go to Ulta for. (See my previous review) The great thing about Bb is they have a few sales throughout the year. Overall: 8.75/10 It was a great visit. I would come again when it is time to re-up. I've gone to Beauty Brands on 119th in Olathe for many years, for pedicures, manicures, and gel nails. Higher level nail techs are great. However, staffing issues have been going on for several years. Last minute cancellations by the salon have become the norm, making it impossible to plan for events. Instead of a nail master, you might get in with an entry level person and the results are very poor. If the staff doesn't care, it shows. read more

A woman named Sarah B. cut my hair. She was rough, rushed, and did a poor job simply trimming my hair. The length is uneven on either side, she did not fully dry my hair or even ask how I wanted it styled. Really just poor service overall. read more

This place is trash. I came in here just to buy some men's hair gel and there was literally 5 employees in the back of the salon part on the store on the phone or doing hair styling yet nobody was on the retail part of the floor. I had 3 of those employees walk right past me while standing at the register waiting to be rung out and didn't acknowledge me or even try to help. I could have literally stolen everything in the store and nobody would have even looked up at me. I threw my product on the counter and left. The customer service here has always been poor but it's non existent anymore. They don't even care. Don't bother coming here. They are way overpriced anyway. You can order most product on Amazon for cheaper. No wonder this place is closing stores left and right. read more

I went here to purchase Christmas gifts and ended up talking to the manager extensively about their salon and stylists. She assured me over and over that the expert stylist would be a good fit. So she scheduled me with Elisha. I went to my scheduled appointment with her and she listened to exactly what I wanted and went beyond my expectations! She knew her stuff and was so on point! I don't know if she was nervous or very confident in her skill and was just going through the motions but I would've loved a little bit more upbeat chair side manor. Not that she was horrible in anyway. And maybe she was having a day. Or a long day because I was one of the last appointments. So when I go back I'm hoping she is more talkative and responds to my stories with more than a "mhm." But I did love her work. And no negativity towards her. Like I said I don't know her circumstances that day. I can't judge a person after one time. But I'm looking at February to go back to her. And the craziest part?! Is never in a million years would I have ever went to a salon inside a retail store! Now the price for the top stylist and the toner and whatever else along with a tip is upwards to over $200. read more

Staff at the BB I go to are all pretty helpful. They currently are having the $14.99 litre sale, and boy, do I keep coming back. The place is roomy, clean, and products are easy to find. I wanted opinions on what shampoo and conditioner I should use for my oily scalp but now dry hair since I use a LOT of products on my hair. My sales associate was pretty knowledgeable and suggested something I have used before and was going in there to purchase anyway. I ended up with shampoo and conditioner to last my about a year in a half, but I can't say 'no' to a good sale. The only knock I have for this place is the location. It's at a very busy area and parking can be crazy, but the staff makes up for it. Always satisfied. read more

I went in for a "bang trim" to shorten my curtain bangs. I specifically told my stylist I wanted my curtain bangs "just a little shorter". She even verified the length for me before cutting. So I was unpleasantly surprised when she turned the chair around and I was given a bluntly cut, stringy fringe. It was as if she had severely messed up and was trying to play it off as if it was purposeful. I had CLEARLY asked for only my curtain bangs to be trimmed and now I am left with hair I hate for prom and graduation that will take months to grow out. Not at ALL what I asked for. My hair is completely ruined. (Note: I will admit that after it was done I told my stylist that I liked it. I was so utterly shocked I didn't know what else to do but I got in my car and immediately cried lol.) read more

I've been contemplating decapitation since it could only be slightly less unseemly than what the "curly hair specialist" did to me. Booked a appt w/ Jessica and asked for a trim and to just leave it mainly the same length all over. My texture is 3b with slightly tighter curls in one part of my hair and a bit looser at my neck. We went over all of this. More hair than I wanted was cut but I wouldn't of even of left a bad review for that. It's just so uneven in the front. The back looks OK. I'll probably be spending as much if not more on hats till the front grows long enough to try to cut again evenly. read more

I went into Beauty Brands desperately needing a haircut. I took the first opening I could get with no particular stylist. I took a picture of the pixie cut I wanted. Nothing technical or difficult about it. I got SCALPED! The finished cut looked nothing like a pixie. It looks like a man's shaved cut. Nothing I can do but wait until it grows out. Very upset and disappointed!!!! I don't usually post bad experiences but I would hate for someone else to have this happen to them. Beware! read more

I placed an order online and a pump that I ordered was packaged damaged (box wasn't damaged). It obviously was not quality checked. When I contacted customer service, the pump I ordered was just the piece that fits on top of the bottle. It doesn't included the straw piece that attaches to the pump, that goes inside the bottle. They offered to refund the damage part but wouldn't send the entire pump. I find the website very misleading. When you order a pump for a shampoo bottle, you assume that everything is included( the pump and the straw piece that attaches to the pump). You can't decipher online. The website doesn't indicate that it just the top piece, so I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known. I thought it was a heavier duty pump since the other ones break and don't last. I took my 14 year old son to Master Tech Kris D on 5/19/21. He had been growing his hair out for several months trying to achieve the shaggy high school look with a short mullet in the back as well. Spent a few minutes with Kris explaining that he wanted to keep the long shaggy look, keep the mullet but keep it above the collar, and keep the bangs but just over the eyes. She was very understanding of what he was looking for, and understood we were just barely trimming to meet school and work requirements, but keep the long look! We were so specific and she was so good about repeating exactly what we wanted back to us. I left for 10 minutes to grab a drink, he calls me upset and she had already finished. I assumed as quick as it was that she hadn't cut enough. I walked into him in tears! She had cut off ALL of the hair he had grown and the look he wanted to achieve for the summer. She cut it like a toddler hair! Bowl cut, mullet completely gone, super clean. No length left in the back at all, sides clean, not shaggy look at all! This may not sound like a big deal, but for a kid who has rules around his hair length in school all year, he was timing it just right to have this long hair for summer. I feel really bad for him and I am absolutely furious with how completely incompetent this stylist is! Obviously all they can offer me is to comp the cut, but they don't have to deal with the upset teenager that now doesn't want to leave the house. He looked 18 and now he looks 8! read more

I have a hard time finding good help at Beauty Brands and good help is necessary in a store like that with so many items for different beauty needs. I walked in and the girl shouted welcome to Beauty Brands! I've worked retail before... I could tell she shouted it like that because she was in a in depth conversation with someone at the register non work related. I asked for the nail polish and she pointed to the back of the store, so I helped myself. I was quick to the register and put my stuff down on the counter. She didn't even say hello or did you find everything ok. She looked annoyed. She was a very short stout lady with short dark hair and thick glasses. She Didn't even give me a bag for my item, although I know it was one nail polish, beauty brands has bags that are small. She didn't even say thank you for shopping or have a nice day. I will not be coming back to this location anymore. A simple hello or how are you or thank you for shopping with us goes a long way. read more
