This afternoon I decided to take my husband out for an early birthday lunch in the fancy French bistro Beaulieu, located in the elegant Ferstel Passage. We took the U3 metro to Herrengasse, and walked passed Cafe Central to arrive at Ferstel Passage -- and in there is Beaulieu cafe. As you walk in you can see displays of French wines, drinks, snacks and jams to purchase. But in front of you is a display of french baguette sandwiches, cheeses, meats, and desserts, all of which look so freakin' delicious to me. Beaulieu is very popular and busy cafe, so come and see if you can fit yourself in here. The tables on the ground floor are only small enough for two people, but upstairs there are bigger tables for groups. The floors underneath are tiled with geometrically shaped flowers, the walls are decorated in simple fashion, and upstairs vintage bird cages hang from the ceiling. For drinks I wanted to try something different and unusual so I ordered their warm Orange-Lavender lemonade. I know lavender is a popular herb in France, so why not give it a try? The drink arrived in a large teapot for me to enjoy several servings of and tasted absolutely delicious! For lunch my husband ordered their quiche and I their Salade Chevre Chaud, a salad with greens and baby spinach, baked goat cheese with honey and thyme, sun dried tomatoes and three pieces of crunchy baguette. It was so good and for it's French portion size (a.k.a. small) I could have eaten another one, but I guess that allowed me room to fit in dessert! Beaulieu's Tarte Ganache was heavenly with a buttery crust, thick chocolate and raspberry filling garnished with a raspberry, candy piece and a tiny piece of gold (yes, you read that right, GOLD). So I will definitely be back. Maybe I will stop by for their Sunday brunch... oh, and every Monday they display their ever-changing lunch menu on their website and Facebook.

    Elegant passage seating.

Was taken here by a local while visiting Vienna. It was amazing. The lamb dish was incredible. The place is tucked away in a great spot.

While living in Vienna, Austria, friends and family always wanted to enjoy Schnitzel at Figlmüller…read morein Stephansplatz. However, my personal favorite restaurant for authentic Austrian cuisine is Schitzelwirt! They have an exceptional Biergarten in the front of the restaurant or inside dining if you want a more romantic setting. I recommend enjoying their traditional Wiener Schnitzel with Herb Potatoes. Aperol Spritz & local Sturm Wine pairs nicely with this meal. The service was excellent! They are able to speak English but restaurants are the best place to try using your Deutsch and the staff will be very pleased and create laughs around the table. Also, this restaurant isn't very close to an U-Bahn station so I recommend using a taxi or Uber to arrive and continue your night.

It was near our air bnb and had lots of good reviews, so the choice was made. We each got a different rendition of schnitzel. I got the classic and I personally thought it was great. Cooked perfectly. Crispy golden exterior with a juicy center. Simple dish that doesn't need anything other than a squeeze of lemon and a nice cold beer. My mom and aunt weren't as thrilled. I Think they had different expectations. My mom got a version that was similar to a francese and my aunt got one with parm and oregano. I tried both and thought they were very good. The potato salad they serve was phenomenal!! Be warned, the portions are huge! This is a good place for a family to share a few dishes. Also, be advised that if you want to avoid a wait get there early. We got there and had no real wait, but the people were beginning to show up as we left. You have to have the staples when you travel to a particular city, and the Schnitzel was represented well at this particular Vienna institution. Go and ENJOY!!!

The building is very elegant and classical, really enjoyed the atmosphere as walking in, we sat down at a corner next to the window and could not wait to try out the coffee and pastries here. We got Cafe Central Kafee and Maria Therasia for coffee and shared one Viennese Apple Strudel. The coffee is so smooth and with the added liquor, the fragrance is amazing!!! No question, this is the BEST Apple strudel I've tasted, crunchy texture for the outside crust and the filling is full of fruity flavors. We spent about a bit more than an hour there and that was the most relaxing, appreciating and beautiful moment among this Europe trip.

Hmm a little torn on this review since I only came for breakfast one day, and didn't get to try…read moretheir pastries, however felt like the experience was pretty mediocre. Well known for being a beautiful and historic cafe established 1876 frequented by the likes of famous names like Trotsky and Freud, this traditional Viennese coffeehouse and cafe is a popular tourist destination. Having walked by around 7:30pm the prior evening and seeing a line of about 15 people outside, the next morning arriving around 9am the line was about 15 minutes without reservations. Upon entering the inside is beautiful, cavernous domed ceilings, chandeliers and a very classic bistro vibe. Enough seating for probably 150 customers, quite large inside, and about two-thirds full. That's when I realized the line outside was more for show, which at some places I get because staffing might be hard and they want to ramp up the pacing between breakfast and lunch services. In a place like this it seems more like a marketing technique to create hype, which kinda annoyed me--it's not respectful of customers' time. It took a while maybe 10 minutes for a staff member to pass menus, then another 10 minutes for him to come back and check in. What I'll say is he was swift to answer our questions and knew the menu well. In general service felt lacking though, after eating it took quite a long time to get our server's attention again to get the check. For breakfast I was a little surprised by the prices for the food offered, on the high side. While the vegan spreads were very good, from the menu it wasn't clear that it was actually vegan cream cheese that was the base of the spreads. Unfortunately the rest of the food was meh, €14.50 for a small croissant (not especially good), a plain roll, a boiled egg and latte, with a pat of butter and jam. Would I come back? Maybe to try a couple of their baked pastries and dessert, but not for breakfast. For more info: https://cafecentral.wien/en/
