Horrendous service and the food pretty much as bad. We had to wait for 30 minutes for our food to come out, and the food did not look like it warranted 30 minutes of preparation time. Fries were pretty much wilted, but the pepper and fried lemon was decent. Chicken meatballs were extremely dry, and the bread was stale. We had to call over the waiting staff just to have our water refilled, and it took a solid 5 minutes to get us our check. The waitress simply did not come back, so we ended up paying using the QR code. We came here on my recent trip to Chicago. The appetizers were amazing. Best ones were the Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and the whipped feta. The chimichurri steak was pretty underwhelming but the fries were good. Others got the short ribs and they said they were amazing so I would opt for that instead next time! (Went in for a late breakfast before the One of a Kind show.) but it was totally fine, as my friend and I had a lot to catch up on! I had the egg white omelette, no cheese, and it was perfect. They always listen to your requests and always ask about food allergies. Small thing-- the bathrooms are attached to the hotel, but a lot of travels expect "auto flush" toilets, and these were not, and I won't go into more details. I went to the beatrix cafe inside the restaurant and from the aesthetic it was very nice i was excited to order my banana joe coffee, however, when it came out it tasted horrible borderline rancid like something was off, i drank one sip and threw it away. Met up with friend for a weekday dinner and was kind of skeptical about the food because in the past it was ok. Nothing outstanding. Hands down the best breakfast I ever had in Chicago, this is my second time coming to Chicago and I am sure I am coming back next year to this exact spot! Starting with the chai latte, that was great with that little cinnamon touch, but the star of the day was those amazing chilaquiles I had, I added some steak that was actually cooked just the way I liked! All the flavors involved were just perfect for my plate. As soon as you walked in to the restaurant you feel very welcomed and the decor is beautiful. Service was great as well. We stopped in on a Friday around 530pm after a movie at the AMC close by. We didn't know there was happy hour until 6 so we got kinda lucky. They have great deals on the happy hour menu! We started with the whipped feta and the Korean chicken meatballs. The meatballs were incredibly juicy and tender and the sauce was absolutely delicious (I used the leftover sauce with my fries from my meal--yumm). The feta was pretty good, but we didn't enjoy the seedy crackers it was served with. The texture makes sense in theory, but we didn't love it. For our meals my friend got the enchiladas and said they were very tasty. I had the burger and beverage from the happy hour menu ($15 for a house marg and the tavern burger--great value). The burger was great, but I do wish there was some sort of sauce. The fries were amazing. The house marg was just alright, but you can't beat the deal. The habanero pineapple marg was great! It was our first breakfast on our trip to Chicago. It was a crowd pleaser. Everyone loved their breakfast. The coffee was great (latte). My wife drinks decaf and had a plethora of options. The inside is fun and bustling. We had a reservation and had to wait a bit still. There wasn't many options on where to be while waiting without feeling like we were in the way. Once that was over, it was a fun meal. I ordered the pancakes. The middle of mine were not cooked. They were runny. I saw someone else's that did t have the issue. So, I think it was just a fluke. My guest felt their dish was way too hotly seasoned and my dish felt really really heavy. The location however is spectacular, it's perfect for summer and warm weather with fresh air and not bad noise, they have the best bakery in river north with an awesome selection of treats. Their burger deal is a fantastic offer. You get a large loaded burger and fries for only 12$. Although the burger and fries weren't as quite flavorful as I would have liked, I can't complain because they really made up for it with the amount of stuff on the burger. The worst part about this location as of writing this review is the hostess pictured, she needs some serious rework in proper hospitality and hostess training. Very rude, not accommodating, holding tables for no reason on a waiting list of 11+ parties while 1/3 of the indoor area of the restaurant is seemingly closed with no explanation, at least three tables indoors were available at the time of speaking to her, and another five tables at least available outside. Didn't even bother asking if we preferred inside or outside seating, just a repeated response about the wait being about 45 minutes. How come another host showed up (Indian ethnicity, I hope I'm correct and I don't offend him here) and he immediately took care of all 12 parties in a row that were on this hostess' waiting list? Also, hostess, don't fight over math when someone tells you they are a party of two adults with a stroller, that doesn't mean three, it means if you process what you're being told correctly, that you need to place the party at a table where a stroller needs to be parked next to the table and not blocking pedestrian traffic - it doesn't mean it's an opportunity to argue with guests about "so that means three people not two people for your waitlist number." If this hostess thinks she works at some high-class Beverly Hills, California restaurant, then she should look at a map and go work where she thinks she belongs. Actually, they probably wouldn't hire her over there because she has other qualities that don't fit most likely. It was absolutely frustrating to deal with this hostess and as out-of-town tourists visiting this location for the first time, she's already the reason we probably won't come back. People like her, on first contact with a guest, are the easy way to your restaurant losing repeat customers quickly. Just get rid of her, seriously. There is no need in any restaurant to have people waiting for no reason, it does nothing - the idea of having people wait outside for people passing by to think "oh look at the wait there it must be worth it" is a silly idea, it doesn't work. It just means people will see the wait outside and keep walking, and you won't have first time nor repeat customers anyway if they always see the same scene going on. Food was good, specialty coffee drinks could use some re-evaluation on the flavor, fresh squeezed juices are fantastic. read more

We dropped in without a reservation on a Saturday mid morning. There was a bit of a wait for two but that was expected and we actually got a table earlier than the 45 minute estimate. Once seated we were greeted by our waitress right away. Despite how busy they were our food arrived crazy fast! I ordered the avocado toast with poached eggs. I enjoyed it, but, I personally, would have liked the avocado, itself, to be a bit seasoned. Even still, very good. My friend ordered the ham and cheese croissant with side salad. Had a wonderful little date night dinner at Beatrix while on vacation in Chicago. We ordered some drinks, an appetizer, and dinner, and shared pretty much everything. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was great! We were really happy with everything we ordered. I was particularly impressed by the spicy rigatoni ala vodka given that it was vegan, I don't think I would've been able to tell if it didn't say on the menu. As we were rapping up dinner we heard that the bakery had items at a discount since the restaurant would be closing. The baker gave us an extra item for free and made us feel welcome as tourists in his city! Had some fun conversation with him and our server before heading off to our next stop.
