I went to Beatrix just when they opened on Clark many years ago. It was unique, tasty and quite wonderful. Food was amazing and the menu was fresh and unique. Flash forward to 2026. Went for lunch and it was terrible. I had the burger asked med rare. Wish they'd just stop asking! It was well done and extremely salty. Fries were so salty, you could see the salt. Partner had the kale salad and got very sick. First time I passed the dessert bar and passed. Nothing looked fresh, nothing looked good. Hands down the best breakfast I ever had in Chicago, this is my second time coming to Chicago and I am sure I am coming back next year to this exact spot! Starting with the chai latte, that was great with that little cinnamon touch, but the star of the day was those amazing chilaquiles I had, I added some steak that was actually cooked just the way I liked! All the flavors involved were just perfect for my plate. As soon as you walked in to the restaurant you feel very welcomed and the decor is beautiful. Service was great as well. It was our first breakfast on our trip to Chicago. It was a crowd pleaser. Everyone loved their breakfast. The coffee was great (latte). My wife drinks decaf and had a plethora of options. The inside is fun and bustling. We had a reservation and had to wait a bit still. There wasn't many options on where to be while waiting without feeling like we were in the way. Once that was over, it was a fun meal. I ordered the pancakes. The middle of mine were not cooked. They were runny. I saw someone else's that did t have the issue. So, I think it was just a fluke. The brunch menu isn't extensive but the dishes are fire! Sunday brunch is popular but I was able to get in and sit at the bar immediately. The bartenders were very attentive. Cute airy vibes. The espresso martini was great! I loved the lemon pancakes and the syrup that came with it. I thought the Shakshouka was good but I don't prefer poached eggs so I asked for over medium. The egg looked underdone when it came out but the chef said it was over medium. When I broke into it, it was even under for poached so it turned to soup HOWEVER it still tasted good. We had a reservation here on a Saturday and were a little late so we were expecting to wait a little which was fine but then we got sat at our table and our waiter was really nice. My friends started with iced coffee. Then we started ordering our food. I got the ranchero breakfast burrito which had quinoa in it and crispy hashbrowns, eggs, black beans and cheese. I enjoyed my burrito but wish it had more flavor. The pineapple on the side threw me off and wasn't that good and the hash brown on the side was not crispy at all and I was really disappointed with. Everything about this experience was incredibly mediocre. The place itself was nice and had a good atmosphere and felt fancy but not too fancy. It filled up very quickly but was not too loud to have a conversation. The service however.... Was not good. We got there well before happy hour ended but almost missed ordering in time because it was forever until we were seen. There happy hour deals are quite good and would recommend. Their burger deal is a fantastic offer. You get a large loaded burger and fries for only 12$. Love the bustle and vibe here. I went two mornings for breakfast. I missed the high traffic flow on Saturday and Monday morning. No reservation needed and no wait time both mornings. That is unusual here. It's a staple for most in Chicago for breakfast. The bakery is amazing. The service is amazing. The food is amazing. It never disappoints. Here's what we ordered: the ham and cheese croissant, baked apple and blueberry oatmeal with streusel topping, a side of chicken sausage patties. Sounds boring but it's anything but that. The croissant was baked with real ham inside and cheese. Cover gently with cheese and baked just enough. It came with a side of arugula salad that was the perfect partner for this. They took this common breakfast everyone makes - to the next level. Safe to say, the highest level I've ever had it prepared. When it came to the table next to me, I thought it was a giant fried chicken breast and salad. I was upset I missed that dish on the menu! The baked oatmeal had me worried. I never order that out. It's boring too, right? Not this. The fresh whipped cream was firm and had taste. It was so delicious I'm trying to recreate it for myself at home. Not sure I can get close. The chicken sausage patties were thin, well cooked and seasoned. Small tiny diced red pepper and seasoning made it very different from the regular breakfast types served in restaurants. We ordered our typical, latte and cafe mocha. Delicious! I never pass up an opportunity to eat at Beatrix. I have also ordered my holiday cakes and Thanksgiving pumpkin cheesecakes here. They outshine my meals, but I still take the credit! The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. Many areas of seating in a spacious dining room or at the bar. The lighting is easy on the eyes and warmly decorated. Perfect for brunch after an evening at the Red Head Piano Bar! Side note: All the portions and food quality here are in line with the pricing. We dropped in without a reservation on a Saturday mid morning. There was a bit of a wait for two but that was expected and we actually got a table earlier than the 45 minute estimate. Once seated we were greeted by our waitress right away. Despite how busy they were our food arrived crazy fast! I ordered the avocado toast with poached eggs. I enjoyed it, but, I personally, would have liked the avocado, itself, to be a bit seasoned. Even still, very good. My friend ordered the ham and cheese croissant with side salad. She said it was good and I love that it came with a side salad. I'm always looking for ways to squeeze in veggies at breakfast to start the day off strong. The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting, with a modern yet cozy vibe that makes it a nice spot for both casual and more formal gatherings. We were offered the brunch menu ! We tried the shakshouka ,pancakes , migas , Ranchero breakfast burritos and a bunch of juices ... I felt everything was decent but didn't quite stand out as exceptional. The flavors were good, and but the presentation felt ok, but I felt that it lacked a bit of the wow factor I was hoping for. Even though we had made a reservation and the restaurant wasn't closing during the day we felt rushed. Service was ok .. I literally had to call our severer every time we needed something . Prices are on the higher side, but that's to be expected for a place with this kind of ambiance and location. The restaurant gets very busy with long waits so I suggest getting a reservation for brunch. It's connected to the adjacent hotel, and where we were seated, hotel guests were able to watch us eat as they were waiting in the lobby, which took away from the dining experience. We went on a weekend and the restaurant was packed, it was pretty noisy inside so we were lucky to get a table close to the outdoor seating area (it was summer so the weather was nice too). Service was fine, though it took a while for us to be able to get ahold of a sever. I had the mushroom and quinoa burger which was okay, definitely a unique item but nothing special - could've used more seasoning. My dad had the chimichurri steak and eggs which he was very dissatisfied with, the steak was warm at best and seemed reheated. Had a wonderful little date night dinner at Beatrix while on vacation in Chicago. We ordered some drinks, an appetizer, and dinner, and shared pretty much everything. Service was friendly and efficient and the food was great! We were really happy with everything we ordered. I was particularly impressed by the spicy rigatoni ala vodka given that it was vegan, I don't think I would've been able to tell if it didn't say on the menu. As we were rapping up dinner we heard that the bakery had items at a discount since the restaurant would be closing. The baker gave us an extra item for free and made us feel welcome as tourists in his city! Had some fun conversation with him and our server before heading off to our next stop. Came in without reservation on a Sunday evening and was seated immediately for a group of 2. When I got there it wasn't busy but tables started filling up quick. Our server was very slow and inattentive. We waited about 10 minutes to have our order taken and then about 30 minutes to get our food. I ordered the strip steak chimichurri and my husband got the prime burger. The steak, which I ordered medium rare, was very hard to chew and cut through but the flavor was good. The prime burger was so soft and flavorful. It was much better than the steak. The fries on both dishes were crisp and seasoned well. For dessert we ordered a special cheesecake with vanilla bean whipped cream. This was the best cheesecake I've ever had. The filling was light and fluffy and the crust wasn't dense. My friend and I were able to grab a reservation for 2 this past Saturday afternoon. The interior was nice and elegant. Our server was quick about getting us water and taking our orders. Unfortunately, they were out of their LIGHT & FLUFFY LEMON PANCAKES which I really wanted. ENLIGHTENED CAESAR SALAD - 13.95 +6.95 for grilled chicken My friend wanted something light so she got the salad. I got this as well because I could not get my pancakes and other options on the menu did not stand out to me. The salad was not too big which was disappointing since it's pretty pricy. Adding 6.95 for the amount of chicken we got was also not worth it. The salad wasn't mixed very well so all the dressing was on the bottom (which was pretty much inedible by then). Overall, I would not recommend this. The greens were refreshing, though, but I can just walk over to the grocery store nearby and pick up a bag of fresh romaine lettuce for the same effect. The sliding front glass windows/doors were all open which brought in the nice weather and lots of light. At the suggestion of a friend, we tried Beatrix for breakfast, with a reservation on a busy Saturday morning. We arrived 15 minutes early and were graciously seated right away. The menu had many intriguing options and I landed on the Smashed Avocado Toast with added scrambled eggs and my husband ordered the Belgian Waffles with Strawberries and Cream. The vanilla latte and hot tea were exceptional and one mimosa was plenty. Unfortunately the breakfast didn't live up to the promise. My avocado toast arrived well ahead of the waffles and I dug in because the eggs were hot. When my husband's waffles finally arrived , they were cold. We waved down a server who picked up the platter to replace them, although the second order was only marginally warmer. He ate the berries and cream and our server offered to get a manager. I was finished by this point, so we declined, although they did remove the charge for the waffles. Getting it right the first or second time would have been preferable, but thank you. read more

Beatrix is a great place to have breakfast. We were visiting Chicago and it was near the hotel. There was about a 30 minute wait, although if you just want coffee that have a coffee stand. Drinks were really excellent. I had a Chai Latte that had rich flavor with the right taste of cinnamon, then others in group loved their coffee (and a latte had a nice design). Be aware, service if kind of leisurely, it took a while to get orders and then receive drinks and food. I had the oatmeal with blueberries and apples. It was not cheap, but very tasty. There were nice almonds on top and plenty of apple in the oatmeal. It came with option for maple syrup which I did not get and was glad for that--it is sweet enough. Others loved their coffee avocado toast and the egg white omelette. Every dish was well done. If you have the time, absolutely worth a visit. read more

The glasses at our table and the ones provided for our drinks were dusty/had things in them. It felt like they either weren't washed properly or were put out to collect dust. We noticed it when we were pouring water because it was really visible. It is a busy day so I understand about long wait times, but it took us nearly 45 min to get our food. Other tables that ordered later than us were halfway/finished with their meals by the time we got ours. I think our order might have gotten lost since it was busy, but not every seat was taken so it definitely wasn't even at its busiest. Our server was nice enough to give us a cookie while we waited, but that was after 40 min of waiting. When the food came, the toast on one of our dishes was really burnt - which is weird since it took so long to come out. We didn't send it back or anything just because we wanted to eat quickly and leave. Otherwise, the caesar salad was good and the waffles were good too, it just felt like it was somewhat overpriced for the amount we got. We had outdoor seating and there were some bees and wasps, but otherwise it's a pretty and aesthetic area. So adding up the dirty glasses, a 45 min wait for food, the burnt toast, and the overpriced dishes, I really felt like it was a mid experience. The bees/wasps aren't really anybody's fault. We walked down from our rooms in the attached hotel and had a minimal wait, but actually getting seated took quite a bit of shuffling to the point that we were several minutes sat and the server came back and had us move us to a dirty table. Several staff members waited on our party of two, including a manager, and all together we maybe got bare minimum service. My iced matcha was undrinkable, but there wasn't any opportunity to do anything about it. My food was underwhelming and I left hungry. For me to be unimpressed with a server is a shocker because my mom was a server and I always give them the benefit of the doubt because they work so hard.
