The unfortunate thing is that when you have expensive food, like The Bad Apple does, the expectation of consistently good food is higher and they haven't been able to deliver. The last two times I've had the burger (once at the restaurant and once at home) the smoked brisket has been dry. On my last occasion the bottom half of the bun was burnt. It was barely edible without drowning it in sauce. I've reached the point that the price outweighs the food quality. The charcuterie board with mixed meat and cheese was really small though. Only three pieces of cheese for five people... it made it feel like an awkward fight over who'd get to try some. The gluten free crackers were appreciated though. We ended up ordering more food including the "party tray" which I would describe more as charcuterie nachos. We didn't really know what to expect with this one so we got the canned mussels but it really would've tasted better with the prosciutto instead. It included a whipped cheese, olives, and cornichons piled onto potato chips. Less of a tray and more of a nacho-style dish. For a small venue, the Beat Kitchen isn't too bad. You can be so close to the stage that you feel like you're a part of the performance with the band! The lighting was nice, and it was a pretty well-kept area. It's a great place to see a small, local band before they get too big. But, there were quite a few things I didn't like about the Beat Kitchen. The staff was not very polite when ushering everyone out after the show. They didn't hesitate to yell at you to get out. Another thing was that the sound system wasn't that great. I think it was partly due to the fact that the volume was much too loud, which made it slightly distorted. Not only that, but it made it impossible for the performers to hear and stay on key. (They did put on a great show despite the technical difficulties) One last thing that I wasn't too fond of was the fact the bathrooms are downstairs. Sounds petty, but in order to get to them from the venue area, you need to walk through the restaurant, which is inconvenient. read more

This place is a bar/restaurant in front, and the small room in the back serves as the venue. Wish I knew a little more about this place before I went. Would've saved me three hours. I went to see Green River Ordinance just yesterday. Waited in line for three hours for them to just let 21+ people walk right on in for the show. The doors weren't supposed to open for the show until 7 but people who were 21+ just got to walk right on in to the back. So if you're under 21 don't bother coming before doors. Also there is no coat check however there are hooks on the side walls. Didn't have any contact with staff members except to claim my ticket and it only took ten seconds. The venue was so small and intimate that at the end, the band came into the middle of the crowd and did a campfire-style performance, and then walked around, talked, and took pictures with everyone! I loved the entire experience, except the age thing. read more

it's really rare to find bars that have vegan AND gluten free options. this place has a homemade vegan burger (not impossible or beyond) that's genuinely really good plus they have gluten free buns. the veg burger doesn't have bread crumbs in it and the gf bun is vegan too. it's huge and comes with fries and sauces and is way better than expected for a bar. also the waitress said they have vegan cheese they can do on any of the pizzas. My friend went to go purchase us Waterloo Sparkling Water for $2 per the wall, but the bartender gave it to her for free from the soda gun--I wasn't mad at that. The bar itself was small and crowded, with a few people sitting on the side having eats. Can't speak to the food, but The Queen said she has eaten there and enjoyed it. I was not even aware that there was an upstairs until I saw a door open near the end of the bar and The Queen pulled me over to go up the stairs. Once upstairs, we entered this small room bathe in a red light. There were a few seats and tables. I would say that there are not a lot of seats, so you would have to get there to grab a seat at one of the tables or at the bar. The DJ that night was cool, spinning some great tunes. The Queen and I took turns dancing and drinking for several hours. I loved the vibe, it was like being in someone's basement chillin like a villain. After about a 2-3 hours, the place got crowded and we ended up leaving as it was getting hot. But we did have fun dancing with ourselves as well as some other folks on the floor. I could definitely see myself going back to Schubas Tavern to dance as it was cozy and intimate. I would be interested in trying the food as well. From what I could see, it looked pretty decent.

The menu is a quality over quantity situation, featuring a pretty small but super interesting and unique selection. On this visit, I tried the cocorococonut cocktail, which had a very interesting blend of coconut, lemongrass, and lychee. It was super refreshing, not at all too sweet, and aesthetically very pretty. I wish I could've tried more of the menu, but I'll just say that the pours are generous! Overall, I had a great experience and highly recommend paying a stop!

It was also approachable, lightly herbaceous, with a little sweetness and acid. Between us, was this among my favorites? No. However, this is more a matter of personal taste than something technically or otherwise wrong. I prefer cocktails that are bolder and more spirit forward. My advice is to talk to your bartender and find something you will enjoy most. To help not drink on an empty stomach, I ordered the Crispy Shrimp Tacos. As far as bar (gastropub?) food, these were extremely respectable. The shrimp was cooked very well, and the use of greens and onions helped offer a balance and freshness. As a note, the space inside is small and intimate, and I've no complaints about the service. Final verdict: If you're looking for a unique cocktail, in a small and intimate space, the Elixir Lounge fits the bill. The menu has a couple food options too, so you won't be drinking on an empty stomach.

The Peachy Green reminded me of a green tea shot in drink form, perfect for spring and summer. I got my favorite mac and cheese with crispy chicken, and my friend got Brussels for her appetizer, which were delicious. For our entrees, we had the teriyaki burger and shrimp tacos. They were pretty good, just get a side of teriyaki if you love sauce like I do. We ended the night with a cookie skillet and brownie, perfect! Chris was an amazing server, can't wait to return.
