    Old fashioned.
    Tatiana M.

We only came here for a couple of cocktails on a random Saturday afternoon... and we thought we would throw the "new place on the block" a bone. For having a completely empty patio and literally not a single table filled inside, we still waited quite a bit for our drinks to come out. Aside from that, the old fashioned was very good and made the proper way. The other drinks were also delicious. I have to knock it one star because of our server. I know she's trying to be friendly, but at a certain point, after our drink orders are in, you've gotta step back and walk them over to the bar and stop talking to us. She just did not pick up on social cues. All in all, good place, but unfortunate that it's always so empty. I feel like they'll be closing sooner than later if they don't start featuring any sort of promotion to get the word out.

Well this was a complete bust. We went here for brunch on Saturday because I could've swore they had biscuits and gravy...alas, they did not. We walked up at 1115a and there was only one other table. Grave sign...should've ran! Lol. Our server was SUPER NICE. And tried to be accommodating, but it was so bad. I ordered a regular Bloody Mary. After trying it, it tasted sour?? I don't know why. Everyone tried it and agreed, it tasted bad. I sent that back and got a French 57, which was much better. The wait time before our entrees came out seemed to be an excessively long time. The food was very mediocre. Shrimp & Grits-two of my four shrimp were half raw. I accidentally ate one not knowing and when I looked at the others, I realized they weren't fully cooked. I immediately lost my appetite. They did take it back and even offered to make me another, but I declined. Chicken & waffles-no flavor. The waffle was a corn cake style that was decent. The chicken just didn't taste like anything. Corn cake-decent actually. In comparison to the other two dishes, this was the winner. Overall, the food just wasn't very good. The bathrooms were horrendous. Eeeek. I think maybe the cleaning crew forgot this one.

I was excited to try this new place in my neighborhood, so we gave it a whirl on Friday evening. Honestly, if I could give half stars, I would rate this place 3.5 stars and not 3. With both food and drinks, they are definitely on the right track but I think a few improvement are in order. From an atmosphere perspective, I loved the outdoor area and the inside looked like a cool place to hang. The servers were super friendly and it's a great spot for a summer drinking day. They have a fun drink menu with a lot of bourbon-inspired drinks (no surprise given the name). My husband loves bourbon and he really enjoyed the Sour Betty and Bourbon Fizz. I tried the Sour Betty from him and as a non-Bourbon lover, I have to say it was pretty tasty. I had the Desperado. Given that it had poblano-infused mezcal and cilantro simple syrup, I was really hoping for a refreshing yet spicy drink. Unfortunately, the bitters were a bit overpowering and that's all I could taste. I opted for a beer for my second drink and I have to give them props for having amazingly cold beers on draft. Hit the spot! For food, we ordered the wing appetizer, beef dip sandwich and shrimp po boy. The wings were sticky with an odd flavor that I couldn't quite place. They were on the dry side and would really called for some sort of accompanying sauce. The shrimp po boy was ok. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and crispy, which I loved. However, the menu stated there was a brown butter aioli, but I had hardly any if not zero sauce. Also, I knew it came with fresh herbs, but there was almost too much dill so I was picking it out of my teeth! The beef in the beef sandwich was nice and tender but the Au jus had almost too much smoke. It's as if someone accidentally knocked over a bottle of liquid smoke in the Au jus. It overpowered the sandwich to the point that smoke was all you tasted. For dessert, we ended up getting the pecan pie as they raved about it. Tastewise, it was decent. The crust was a bit hard. Overall nothing to write home about. Likely, I'll be back because it's in the neighborhood, but I hope I'm able to write a new review to change this to 5 stars!

Craw-dad!! Bad photo sorry the plate came with more I just ate them all before I took this photo

Food is fantastic! Craw dads are a must also brisket was very good. Really enjoyed fruit and cheese plate and cobbler for dessert. Service was great, knowledgeable and friendly. Cocktail menu has a few very tasty items, best to ask for recommendations from staff. Wine by the glass list is really pretty decent, nice to see that, too often restaurants get the cheapest wine and sell it at the same price as what you would pay for a decent glass, not this place which is nice. Fairly priced, high quality wine by the glass.

Taylor for a lower price. Sold! I made a reservation and stopped in that week (if not that very day). The Old Fashioned was fantastic! It had strong whiskey notes without hitting you with a wall of spirit the way a Manhattan, for example, does. The other additions of bitters and syrup did a perfect job rounding the cocktail out, adding sweet and savory notes. As much as I love variety, I loved it so much, I ordered two! I can't lie and say this wasn't at least in part due to the reduced price, that notwithstanding, me ordering two of the same is some of the highest, non-verbal praise one could get from me. For a main, I had the opportunity to try the burger, a special only available 5:00 - 6:30, and mind you I eked in by the skin of my teeth. Before I attempt to break this down, though, I need to take a slight tangent: Do any of you remember the quote from The Menu where Anya Taylor-Joy says: "A real cheeseburger. Not some fancy, deconstructed, affluent b***s***, a *real* cheeseburger."? I am pleased to report the burger here was somewhere between Chef Slowik's "very traditional cheeseburger" and the one Taylor Joy describes! In other words, just fancy enough to feel like I am getting a unique, creative, well thought out dish, but without all the pomp and circumstance! There's just one little problem: as soon as I bit into it, the juices erupting from within soaked the bottom bun, and turned it into a fork and knife affair with an unseen level of precision and speed. Very regrettably, this was the burger's undoing. That first, heavenly bite that had angels singing showed what the burger was really made of (and I mean this figuratively and literally). The beef was of the highest quality, well-seasoned, cooked medium and juicy, with a perfect sear that would have Louis Camille Maillard crying tears of joy. Two types of cheese (one being crisp and airy, the other thoroughly gooey and savory), the perfect amount of bacon, moisture and flavor from a tempura tomato, and divine sauces! One of them was a little sweet, which elevated the flavor like no one's business. Together, all these flavors were a symphony that could give Beethoven a run for his money. However, that unfortunate fact that the thing fell apart so quickly meant that symphony was limited to one bite, the rest being encountered piecemeal. I would rather skip fries than skip dessert (which I did), and ordered the Mango cheesecake. Such velvety perfection! Neither the sweetness nor the mango notes were overpowering, and while it didn't have the crust of a traditional cheesecake, the more gentle variant here absolutely works. I also appreciated the tart sorbet to offer some contrast in flavor, temperature, and texture. Now, let me talk about the service. Given that the restaurant was at capacity, the bar service and speed to get my items was reasonable. Could it hypothetically have been just a touch faster/more attentive? Yes, but in practice, when you have a full house, this is as good as it can get before robots take over. Finally, there is the matter of prices. There is no doubt in my mind that the quality is up there, at the same time, the reason I skipped the side of fries was it would have set me back $11. I suppose the real question is whether or not the quality equals the price, and after some reflection, I think the answer is yes, but one must be prepared for the sticker shock ahead of time. That said, the final verdict: The Franklin Room absolutely delivers on an all-around fantastic meal. I think whatever you order will be in the 90th percentile, at worst! However, this comes at a cost. Therefore, I would love to return to the Franklin Room, but it would likely be more a very occasional treat than a place where I'd be a regular.

We started with a bunch of cocktails (I wish I remember the names.. but they were all so good!). Food to start, we ordered the Charcuterie, and the House Made Pretzel. We were obsessed with both! The charcuterie did not skimp out like some cheese/meat plates do.. it was a satisfying amount that we kept going back for more. The pretzel was outstanding, twisted and hot, perfectly soft and salty. To eat, I split the Gretel Griddle Burger and the Fried Chicken Sandwich with my friend because although we were there for the burger, I kept reading about the chicken sandwich being fantastic. Booyy they were not wrong!! As much as I loved the burger, the chicken sandwich was my favorite! Perfectly crispy, with this sweet and spicy glaze and the crunchy Asian pear slaw... OMG. I'm still dreaming about this! One thing we were excited about were the Elote Riblettes.. but I wouldn't order these again. I accidentally bit the whole thing and didn't realize they kept the core in, and I had to spit it out. And even after eating it properly it didn't feel like I got enough of it from those little bites. Loved the fries though! We didn't see a dessert menu but we would have definitely been interested in that. After all the drinks apps and the chicken sandwich I was feeling so full so I couldn't finish the burger so I got it wrapped to go. But let me tell you even when I reheated that burger the next day.. it was fantastic!! Overall we may have been the loudest and most obnoxious group (we get a bit excited haha) our waiter and the vibe were all matched! Disclaimer that both times we sat at the bar. So this has nothing to do with servers at the tables. It just felt cold and not at the level I would expect for the prices and reputation. For example, we ordered the smoked trout caesar salad once at the recommendation of a friend, and didn't love it. It was very, very fishy. Like not just the smoked trout itself, the dressing also tasted way heavier on the anchovies or something than we're used to. And we love caesars! We didn't say anything about it because it's literally in the name that it may be fishy. The issue was that it was so obvious we only took one bite that the bartender commented on it when he was clearing our plates. "Too fishy?" We confirmed. And then he took the full plate of food away that he himself had just agreed with wasn't great, and returned with our bill that still charged us $20 for a salad. I mean, it's fine. But it's just an example of the kind of service you get there. We were barely checked on, even when drinks were empty. Even when making eye contact. Even when we were obviously done eating for several minutes and the bartenders were staring at our plates.Even after asking for a check and watching conversations happen leisurely behind the bar while we sat there. I know sitting at the bar is a different style of service, but it ventured more into inattentive than spacious. The space is cool. The food is fine. It just doesn't make up for feeling like a burden when I'm paying $100+ for lunch for two.
