Bear Moon Bakery is by far a five star Eatery. It is my favorite place to eat. The Buffet for breakfast or brunch is the best around. great choices and all delicious. Sandwiches, soups,salads and all the bakery goods are awesome. Best Banana nut bread I ever had. Cuban sandwich I had today was mouthwatering delicious. Soups are amazing. Try the cold tomato soup with fresh avocado ! Great with the sandwiches. Chicken wrap and soup calls you to nap in a hammock in the shade. And so big they have to cut it in half to fit in a to go box. Or just to handle it. I have seriously enjoyed everything I have tried there. Everyone on staff is helpful and knowledgeable. The only time in years that I was unhappy with one part of a meal, The server, kitchen manager, etc. came and apologized and replaced the item. so nicely done I was almost speechless. Until this morning, I was one of Bear Moons' biggest fans; always visited at least once and sometimes twice a week. On Saturday mornings, I would purchase a kugelhopf and walnut tea cake and for less than $5.00, I was out the door. When company would come to town to visit us, Bear Moon was a must stop. Well, the days for me visiting Bear Moon are over. In the past, I have always thought the prices were a little steep, but because of the product I did not mind paying for it. The service, well that's a different story...marginal to satisfactory. Also, I know that the Bear Moon owner has the right to increase prices, it's a free market, but to increase them almost 30% to me is unconscionable. How can you justify a kugelhopf and a piece of tea cake going from $2.25 to $2.90 each in one week? Thankful, we have other bakeries in Boerne, that we can patronize. read more

We went on a Sunday morning and there was a good steady crowd. It is not a large place, but comfortable. You can select your pastries (many kinds) from the display and leave, or sit down at one of the tables. They also have a nice menu selection. We had the breakfast buffet and it was wonderful. The number of items available was surprising and varied, all were excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Definitely a go to place while in Boerne. read more

My favorite place for breakfast! Their buffet is short but filled with greatness. I have friends who insist on going here every time they come to the US!!! The only complaints here.....too small dining area and buffet cut off at noon on weekends....really? Noon on Sunday? Try pushing it back an hour and I think the owners will be pleasantly surprised. We sat down and ate at the cafe part (or at least tried to). The service was awful. We waited 50 minutes to get our food. During that time, we saw other people complaining that no one had even taken their order after quite a wait. Also, I had ordered a water. Maybe I should have ordered something else that came in a big glass, but I was trying to be healthy. My probably 6 oz glass water was filled with 90% ice and 10% (less than 1 oz) of water. It didn't take much to deplete the 1 oz of water. After a bit of a wait, my glass was refilled one time with another 1 oz of water. But then it was left empty the rest of the time. We never even saw our waitress or anyone else near us to flag down to ask for water. It's not a big area, but they were always a few tables away or slowly carting empty plates or whatnot around. The cafe was only about 2/3 full, and there were a lot of employees milling about, very very slowly. When the food finally came out, the stuff that came out as advertised on the menu was pretty darn good. But they were apparently out of a key ingredient on my sandwich. Not only did they not anything to me when we ordered it, they didn't say anything when they brought out the food. They just gave it to us partially prepared, missing a big part of the advertised sandwich. Which was really poor form. Even if I hadn't been paying attention, the sandwich was NOT good without everything. And it took 15 minutes just to find out waitress again to say something. After waiting 50 minutes for the food to come out + 15 minutes to find our waitress again, we were told that they had been missing the ingredients to make what I ordered all along. We did not have time to wait all over again, plus I was getting pretty thirsty. And the employees were definitely not going out of their way to improve the situation any. So we left, with me still thirsty and hangry. Super unpleasant experience, despite the fact that some of the food was actually good. But not good enough to make us EVER want to go back. read more

Meh, came in around 3:00 on a Saturday. Server was rushing us to order and she seemed annoyed....or anxious to get out of there. Menu is pretty limited. Within a minute of us getting our food she brought our check and said she had to cash us out. Then she hovered, waited for payment and then wanted me to sign the credit card receipt when I was mid-bite of my sandwich. And then she bolted, never to be seen again, or any other server for that matter. Flagged another server to ask for a box. She looked at me and then walked the other way. This is a great bakery. The best in Boerne and the Piggies are awesome. A couple months ago I dropped in after an appointment and since it wasn't busy, sat down for coffee and a pastry. I got both items quickly and the waitress said she would be right back with water and cream for my coffee. At that point I became invisible. I must not have been the only one as the couple sitting next to me mentioned to each other that they had asked for a refill on coffee and didn't get it. At about that point the waitress came up with their ticket and no coffee. I got up and got my own cream and left. I revisited today and they have a new (to me) set up. Now to order from the restaurant you stand in line with all the other people who were coming in for just pastries and coffee and leaving. You stand in this line and order (in my case breakfast buffet and coffee)and you wait for the worlds slowest cashier to cash you out. As I waited my coffee was not hot when I got to my table. The buffet was out of three major items so I had to get eggs and sit down and wait till I saw them replenish the buffet before I could get a full breakfast. At which time my eggs were cold. This used to be one of the best breakfast in Boerne a great buffet with their great food. If this is any indication this may not be my favorite place any longer. read more

I was passing through Boerne, TX today at 115 and decided to stop and have lunch here at the Bear Moon bakery... Never been here before. Everything behind the glass looked good. There were 7 people seated. I ordered at the counter from the lunch specials listed on their whiteboard. I ordered a sandwich and added the soup and got a can of diet soda out of the cooler and she rang it up and it was over 16 dollars. There's a place for a tip on the receipt so I added a dollar for a tip. Then I asked how long it might be and she said 15 min or longer. I sat down and waited. And waited. Then I asked if I could have the soup first because I was on a set schedule. She checked in the back and returned and said no, it is part of a combo. THEN she said I ordered at the counter and it is a 'to go' order... I asked if I could eat it there and she said no I can't. I asked if she would throw me out and she said let me check with someone in the back. I asked for my money back and she said no. She returned and said I would be allowed to eat my food there and she said she should have asked me that when I ordered... The dining area was mostly empty. When I got my food the tomato garlic soup was exactly what u would get if you filtered a can of hunts tomato sauce through an old sock, watery, no taste and didn't come with any crackers and was utterly tasteless . The sandwich, which sounded good, was just a small, tasteless job that could easily be outdone in any kitchen in any house anywhere, it fell completely apart. It honestly had no taste, no onions and the cheese was tasteless. I am so mad and feel so cheated. I guess there is no way to avoid getting burned every so often but for over 17 bucks this was disgusting food, the staff was rude and the price was outrageous for what you get. The tomato soup I had on the ship in the Navy was gourmet compared to this and please tell me how it takes 20 minutes to make a tiny sandwich and put soup in a cup and why can't you have your soup first? Stay out of this dive, let them self destruct so a good place can open. ----angry customer read more

Came to Bear Moon today for lunch but ended up eating their breakfast buffet. Everything on the buffet (eggs, hash browns, bacon, biscuits, gravy, etc.) was fresh, homemade and very very good. I was surprised how good the gravy was. Left with an excellent cappuccino. Too full to get a pastry. I will definitely go back to try other dishes. read more

Was in Boerne for an Asleep At The Wheel show and decided to come in for breakfast. Loved the breakfast buffet. Everything is really well sourced and presented from the eggs and bacon to the baked goods. The service was very friendly and accommodating. It's obviously a local place where lots of people know each other. They specialize in baked goods, and I couldn't leave without trying an apple fritter in spite of being on the verge of a carb-coma. Wow, I came here after going many places but was sure it would be just pastries. I was looking for breakfast with my two small children and friend. I started by seating myself on the patio (it was "wait to be seated"), then obviously walking in the wrong door, then bumping into people, and overall was a horribly annoying customer as I figured things out. They were kind enough to seat us where I'd already put my stuff down and then reseat us to get my babies out of the sun (their suggestion!). The food was amazing. My friend is from Iran and was looking for a yummy TX breakfast. She sure did get it. Eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, and lots of veggies (my fav!). The selection allowed for healthy eating or splurging (something I don't often encounter). The owner brought out some markers and paper for my toddler, too. It was a PERFECT experience considering how busy they were and I am planning to stay in Boerne and not eat the night before just to enjoy that buffet again Thank you for the great experience, all! read more

I've been to this sweet little place a few times now and have loved it each time. I've been there for breakfast, for lunch, and also have stopped by to grab a treat while playing in Boerne. The people who work the counter have all been super friendly, and the girls who have stopped by the table on each visit have been very nice and eager to offer their help should I need anything. I don't recall what I had for lunch as it was over a year ago, but I remember being happy when I left =) The time I stopped by for a treat I had a petit four and honestly would have loved to have had five more. But that would have been out of control....or perhaps I should have just taken five more to go to eat in the privacy of my own home, lol. Most recently I grabbed a cheese pocket for breakfast. It was huge! I had to take half of it to go. Tasty pastry filled with cream cheesy goodness. This is a small place - quaint - but with beautiful glass artwork on the walls. They also have a nice-sized breakfast buffet. I'm not sure if it is everyday or just Sundays (for some reason I feel like it might be Sunday only???). I imagine that it would be pretty good. My first visit of many more to come. Been here twice now. Both times I had their chipotle grilled cheese sandwich with garlicky tomato soup and for dessert, I had their ginger snap cookie - all of it was fantastic. Good food and people, family owned, literally on Main Street in the heart of this fast-growing little town. However . . . my personal taste is to not have white frosting drizzled over every last bit of pastry. What is this obsession that these otherwise great little bakeries have?! Can't you just make a great turnover? Why ruin it with white frosting? If I want frosting I'll eat Frosted Flakes or buy it at the H-E-B. More fruit and pastry dough, less sugar. Came here and waited over an hour just to sit down. the thing that really got me is that there were multiple tables open that could have sat us and they wouldn't sit us. People came in after us and sat down. Their only reasoning was that they weren't the right tables for us even though the empty ones were open for almost 15 minutes. I was extremely disappointed with the service here. That being said the food was good, not good enough to wait over an hour but good non the less. I don't think I will be coming back anytime soon or at the very least it will be with a party of four or less. read more

We stop into the Bear Moon every time we are in Boerne for the pastries. For the most part, they are very good. The only reason that I am rating a 4 instead of a 5 is that a couple of times the pastries were a bit dry as if they had been sitting there a while.
