I went here once during breakfast time with my mother. It was pretty crowded but it took no time for us to find a seat. The meal was pretty good. I had eggs and French toast. My issue with my meal is the fact that you either get sour dough or raisin bread French toast. Mine was sourdough which gave my French toast a tangy taste. I think it would've tasted better with texas toast, country, or French bread instead. Service was decent. Not spectacular but not horrible either. Have not been in years and today I remembered why. Bacon cooked so long and dried out so bad it breaks like crumbled egg shells. No taste to their food. I do not get it. We went for a late breakfast. This place was great! Fast and friendly service. We had a daily special Edisto skillet and the caramel and praline French toast. My only complaint is that our biscuit wasn't warm but the rest of the meal was great !! We will be back for sure ! read more

Cute little diner. My omelet was cooked to perfection. Coffee was surprisingly good too. Only area for improvement was with my friends steak and eggs. The steak was over cooked and tough. My girlfriend and I dropped in for a spur of the moment lunch last week, everything on the menu is absolutely fabulous!! I ordered the harbor sauté.. OMG!! It has blue crab meat, shrimp, onions, mushrooms, peppers, with patch potatoes, lipsmacking good!!! She ordered their tuna salad, sandwich, The waitress was kind enough to bring us a sample of their chicken salad, very unique flavor, we could not pinpoint their special seasoning, we were guessing possibly, Rosemary? everyone is so friendly, free refills on our sweet tea, and no matter what time of the day, they are always packed, so pack your patience! But every minute is worth the wait.. they also serve breakfast all day, I noticed a gentleman with a huge bacon cheeseburger, he was devouring it! You know it is good, when it is dripping down to your elbows! Their french fries looked very tasty as well. It is family-friendly, kid friendly, just about anything you want, they have it, quesadillas, wraps, Country fried steak And so many sandwiches to even begin to start with, do not let the outside fool you! I did not have time to snap a pic of my plate, but it was more than I could eat, the shrimp were succulent and cooked to perfection, and the potatoes were perfect Golden brown, with the inside, buttery.. And customer service, is my number one pet peeve, even with a large crowd, our waitress did not skip a beat, but do not wait on the check, you just go to the counter, and pay for your meal when you're finished.. my daughter and I with my granddaughter, had breakfast there about a year ago, I knew then, I would be back! I have been coming to The Bear E Patch for many years and the food is always great. Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner there is always something on the specials list aside from the normal menu that lead me outside my normal list of favorites. The owner and head chef John puts a lot of love and culinary knowledge into his food and you can taste it. There is never too long of a wait for food from the time of ordering to receiving the food. his team of cooks work as a team to get things moving quickly. All of the servers here are always friendly and happy to offer you suggestions if you are ready to break from your routine of favorites or if you are new to the restaurant. For instance, today I had the James island omelet with chicken and black beans and onions and sour cream. John's chicken is some of the juiciest chicken in Charleston. The harbor sautee is the best variation off of shrimp and grits you can get in Charleston. They have tons of pies, cakes and even fresh scooped ice cream. read more

Had the seaside omelet, fried green tomato BLT, and Cole slaw. The omelet was large, mainly due to the surplus of seafood, filling the entire omelet; very good. The BLT was moist, tasty, and meeting my expectations; good. The Cole slaw was the only negative, being too creamy and without much flavor. Staff was kind, no complaints. This no frills cafe has some of the friendliest waitstaff in town. A basic breakfast menu, pancakes and omelettes are featured, as well as shrimp and grits. Though I enjoyed my breakfast, I was disappointed to see the hash wasn't homemade and the breading on the chicken fried steak was soggy and oily. A good place for families. If you have kids, it's better than IHOP. read more

At 10am on a Saturday morning there was a line, but that was to be expected. Not expected: open tables and no one being seated. Then, when it was our turn to be seated, we were told to sit anywhere. Then why have a sign in the front that says "Please wait to be seated"? A line built up with open tables consistently during the hour we were there. The menu has a good variety and things you might not otherwise see, but my eggs Benedict had one medium boiled egg and one properly poached egg and the bread and eggs were drowned in the hollandaise sauce that was a bit on the lemony side. It was supposed to come with potatoes, but arrived with grits. When asked, the waitress said she thought I wanted grits because she over heard my boyfriend asking if I would eat his even though she asked if it was ok my meal came with potatoes as she took my order. Then seek clarification? She offered to get the potatoes, but I hate wasting food and I don't mind grits so I declined the potatoes knowing I wouldn't eat both. At least the Canadian bacon arrived on the side as requested by this vegetarian. Boyfriend reported that blue crab omelette was good, but watery from the veggies. When food arrived the waitress asked if we wanted ketchup or hot sauce to which my boyfriend responded yes. It never arrived and she never came to check on us until she was making rounds with the coffee pot for all customers. We finished and proceeded to sit for 5-10 minutes and watch while she served two other tables. Only after we stacked our plates at the end of the table did she tell us our check was ready at the register while standing at another table. It's noisy inside, which makes it very difficult to communicate and hear. This was our first visit and it will be unlikely we return. read more

One of the worst experiences ever for breakfast. It was quite clear the restaurant is poorly managed and the servers were not in sync and zero communication. Overstaffed in the kitchen but still took too long for food, sign said to wait to be seated but people would stand there for a long time until a server would come up and say, "sit wherever you want", servers didn't know who had what table, servers would come up and say "let me take your order" and then when we would start we were twice told "hold on I'll be right back" -- once because she didn't have a pen or pad and the second because she needed to do something else. Because we were so amused at how poorly the place was run and didn't have anything pressing to do, after we ate we sat there for almost forty minutes until someone came to the table and explained that we needed to go up to the cashier and tell her what we ate so she could match what we said to the tickets the servers left her (say what?!) on the counter. read more

Pretty good food and service with a few issues. First off, ordered omelet with egg beaters in place of regular eggs (which is an offering on the menu with a $1.00 up charge, not an "off the menu" request). I will say the omelet was still big and tasted great ; had the crab omelet. However, I saw a few other groups with regular omelets that were much larger than my egg beater omelet. I feel if a restaurant is going to offer beaters with an up charge, it needs to be just as big as the regular. Second, ordered dry wheat toast and a surprisingly huge order of homemade toast came out buttered which was no biggie, I just told the waitress I ordered dry. She quickly went back to get me dry toast. It took quite a while for the toast to come out, we had to ask for a second time. When they brought it, it was half of what the original toast order was. Instead of 2 full slices of bread cut in half, it was 4 random, tiny pieces as if they took scraps and threw them on the plate. Husband had French dip and sweet fries; good. Kiddos had the cheesecake pancake special which they said was good. All in all pretty good experience, we would go back. read more
