It's a lovely little bakery, in a very quiet part of Worcester, and I felt invited in by the staff upon entering. Mara knew who we were, sat us down and provided excellent samples on a platter and discussed our favorite colors, ideas, etc. during our consultation. By the time she finished, my fiance looked at me and we exchanged the decision that we were going with On The Rise. Now, it's a way's off before I'll see what our wedding cake turns out to be, but the samples we tried were wonder, the presentation was beautiful, the service was excellent, and I love knowing I'm supporting a truly local staple. We decided to try four cupcakes and three brownies - one of which was gluten free! The cupcakes we got were spectacular with wonderful amounts of flavor that wasn't just sugar sweet. I think of all the cupcake places in Worcester, these are the least likely to cause you to go into a sugar induced coma. Ours were a little on the drier side and was crumbly, but not enough to dock a star. The brownies were great, probably more frosting than brownie, but they were rich and the gluten free one you couldn't even tell it was gluten free. I would like less frosting on the brownies, as that sort of overwhelmed the actual brownie part, but this is also minor. Everything was $4 each I believe, which is consistent with other bakeries in the area, so nothing to remark on there. They do also have savory items for breakfast and lunch too if you're interested in an actual meal. They do also have a nice little cafe seating area that's slightly separate from the Woo Public Market, but there's also plenty of seating a couple feet away at the market too. The cases and shelves are fully stocked with cookies and breads, and off to one corner sits a refrigerated cased with Apple Tarts that seem to be beckoning. I was unsure if the tart was made at the bakery due to the packaging and label. But it looked good, so I grabbed them to go. I thought the tarts were delicious, not overly sweet with a nice texture. I'd look forward to eating these again. Alas there were no French Eclairs, my perennial favorite, and there could be a greater selection of pastries.
