This is a quaint neighborhood eastern European cafe. Very lovely, to sit and sip. Not a place to go to if you're in a hurry. Service was great and the barista knew their craft and took their time. I'm glad they had some food options. Pastries seemed, fine. Maybe pre-ordered. They do offer breakfast sandwiches made on site so maybe those might be tasty. In town for the week and was staying down the street from this place. Finally decided to check it out, and wow were we glad we did! The gentleman prepared my dirty chai to perfection... he fired up his little grill for my friend's breakfast sammy right before our very eyes, and he said it tasted very fresh. Maybe don't go here if you're on a time crunch...but it was worth the wait! Nice seating inside and I believe they had some tables outside as well. Good vibe and great experience. This place is kinda awesome. Really good coffee, not super expensive ($10 for 2 people) and no frills. It's just really tasty, well-made coffee and pastries. I wasn't a huge fan of the smell from some of the clients though, but that's not really this places' fault. That said, they looked pretty regular so I'm guessing they'll be there often. read more

If you are old enough to remember the old tatanuck haunt for caffeine,mixed conversation, Cigarettes and other smokables tucked on the side of a 3 shop long strip of stores dating back to the golden age of worcester in an intersection resembling the back of a kneecap - then you'll appreciate espress yourself coffee. Don't get it twisted - in most ways this place is NOTHING like the old kingdom - except for the fabulous coffee and espresso selections. It's not the most spacious of interiors but the art is lovely. Paintings that remind me of matisse or Mondrian I. The outside seating is where it's really at. Munch a fresh croissant and have your cortado quickly or lounge the day - into evening when this area seems to really open up and liven. The culture is rich in the area so folks stop in for quite some time and decompress - it's quite reminiscent of Europe ! Staff is so nice and accommodating! If you have the time to stop in - it's worth it. Parking in back of the building and street parking kinda stinks but usually ok so long as it's not a weekend night. Try the caramel Frappuccino. Authentic Italian espresso only made better by the familiar nonchalance that has become quite rare in retail. The music and hum of conversation give one the sence of a true european cafe. Great coffee, great hours. Seriously, its damn-near impossible to find a coffee shop that stays open past 7pm, and this one is often open until 10pm. The pastries are alright, but leave a bit to be desired, and while the coffee tastes great, the value is only so-so (pricing). Overall, this is a very nice little place. Since I wrote a review for the Corner Grille, it's obligatory for me to bang out a review for Espress Yourself (They are opposite each other in the same tiny square). A true European coffee spot tucked away in a pleasant, removed area of Worcester. The coffee beverages are authentic and spew forth from hand operated, gold-laden machines. The gentleman that owns the business is really amiable and always dishing out a complimentary smile. A slew of fresh baked, drool-worthy treats to go along with your favorite bev. Maybe the most genuine part of this little beauty of a coffee spot is the gang of surly old Italian dudes that hang out there all day and slug espresso, and obviously chain smoking in the outdoor seating area. Note: You can reduce the snarl factor from these local chaps if you are accompanied by a nice lady friend. read more

I needed a quiet place to work on some schoolwork for a couple of hours while my husband and stepson were at my other stepson's football game. My choice was pretty much between this place and Starbucks, and since I'd rather patronize local businesses, I chose this place. Upon walking in, I ordered a latte and a couple of sweets for the guys to take with them (a whoopie pie and some small cakes somewhat resembling petit fours). The boys left, and I found a table to hang out at for awhile. I think there was WiFi, but I didn't see a password posted anywhere, so I just used my own hotspot. I may have gotten about 20 minutes of work in before man after man began trickling in...at one point, I counted at least 25 men in there, which perhaps is not noteworthy, but I was literally the only female in there the entire time I was there. When a couple of groups decided to congregate immediately around where I was sitting (there were many other open tables), to say I felt uncomfortable is an understatement. As my husband had the car, I didn't have much choice but to stay, so for another 2 hours, I tried to work surrounded by raucous men, along with the smell of beer (I am not sure whether they were drinking it or just smelled like it) and cigarette smoke wafting in the front door (because apparently it's acceptable to sit directly next to the open door of a business here and smoke). To be fair, my disdain for this place mostly lies in the fact that I was looking for a quiet place to work and that I didn't expect there to be a 2-hour long bro-fest of middle-aged men in a cute little coffee shop at 7:00 pm on a Sunday night. The local atmosphere is typically what draws me to small businesses, so at any other time, I may have enjoyed this. Had the espresso in my latte not been burnt and bitter, everything else may have also been forgivable. Additionally, while the guys enjoyed the small cakes, they all agreed that the whoopie pie pretty much sucked. Lastly, I must point out that the gentleman who took my order was very pleasant, so I have no complaints about the service. Would I come back? Not unless I was having severe caffeine withdrawals, and definitely not if I was looking for a nice place to sit down for a spell. read more

The people are always so friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere allows you to feel like you've traveled to Europe without ever leaving the West Side of Worcester. I happen to stop by here (quite frequently) when I am in town for work and do not have the convenience of my own espresso machine like I have at home. The place is cute, cheaper than your brand name coffee shop, and way friendly. There always seem to be at least one or two older European gentlemen relaxing inside - sometimes so many days in a row that you would think they live there... (maybe they do?). Honestly, the coffee could be slightly better (the foam done slightly differently, etc, but I'm a coffee snob and former barista...), but not bad for an independent shop in the middle of Worcester. They also have some great breakfast options (bagels, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, chocolate cake (yes, it can be breakfast)). Do it up and support your local shops! read more

I love The Espress Yourself Coffee Cafe. The owners Leo and Ana are wonderful and friendly folks who treat you right with their great customer service. All your fav caffeinated drinks are here. Very high quality coffee, lattes espresso,etc. all here. Their smoothies are great too. The clientele are mixed group of folks from every walk of life in and around The West Side of Worc. They are friendly,give lot's of smiles and like hanging out there, talking, reading,playing board games, etc. The cafe has a little outdoor patty area to hang out during the Spring-Fall. A great find. Aside from being one of those rare local coffee shops with old world charm, Express Yourself has it right in the other area that really counts: quality. Yes, there coffees, tees and other beverages are delicious, but so is there food. I never get the sense that a lot of people order food here (it's mostly a coffee shop), but you'll be pleasantly surprised if you do. Try one of the open faced sandwiches. I had a double macchiato, which was tasty. Service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was quiet. Tables outside were almost all taken, so I sat inside, which could be a little cozier, but was fine. I can see coming with a friend and sitting on the front patio enjoying conversation and good coffee. I really wanted to like this place, but I was just so underwhelmed by the cappuccino. The foam was voluminous, but somehow didn't add anything to the drink. The espresso was overly bitter and slightly burnt tasting (I make my coffee quite strong in a French press, FYI). There were also grounds in it, big ones. Quite possibly the best cappuccino in all of Worcester county. Slightly reminiscent of the old Coffee Kingdom.

This used to be a great cafe for many years, but lately it has taken a major nosedive and there just seems to be no care put into anything. I've gone here many times, and was just there the other day where I decided I can no longer be forgiving of how my coffee was. A few mess-ups is understandable here and there, but it just gets worse. The coffee has been more watered down lately and the lattes come out very bad, very poorly made without any care. The place has been going downhill and looks really run down now. The owner seems to serve his "own people" first before others, if you are there at particular times, you will find he serves espresso after espresso to others who have come after you, and you will wait until the end until you get yours. Bathrooms are horrendous. It is a shame that owners of establishments like these do not have pride in their business and craft, nor pay careful attention to detail. read more
