Darby's IS that quintessential country bakery. They are run by a wonderful team of people and have the best baked goods around. The Yada yada cookies are a must regardless of your plans. Get the purple wheat bread if you're there earlier enough to find a loaf! The focaccia are delicious and while they are only sold room temperature I actually love them like that. We've had cakes made there, which are tasty, well-designed, and reasonably priced. If we lived just a little closer I would probably go every day! read more

I'm not a big fan of giving fives or giving ones. They just seem like hyperbole. In this case, I really need to give these folks a five. Their products are consistently good. And their service has been consistently great. Even during the fun times of Covid, they've got it together. I am especially appreciative of the counter service. No matter who I get, they are cordial and helpful. While I have not personally met the owners, they have a great reputation. As employers, they do a great job of hiring local kids and local people to staff their shop. Sometimes, it's nice to see a familiar face. They also give back to their community. Kudos to them. Darby's Bakery of West Boylston made the cute cake that was served at a baby shower that I attended. The yellow cake was soft, tender, and not overly sweet. I was also told that the cookie I had selected from an assortment was called Yada Yada. I thought it was an oatmeal raisin cookie till I started to eat it. There was also shredded coconut and chocolate chippies. It was chewy and pretty good, but quite sweet. read more

As a true lover of cake and pastries, I can confidently say that this is my favorite bakery in all of Massachusetts (and I've been to MANY). The cake is consistently moist and delicious, the buttercream is perfect, and the everything is super fresh. I don't love the bread, but it's not bad--it's just not my personal preference. The owner is friendly and approachable and clearly very serious about her craft. Love that. My only real complaint is that some of the teenagers who work there are a bit off-putting. They often seem overwhelmed and not super friendly, especially on the phone. Contrary to other reviewers here, I would prefer to be served by some older, more mature associates with better customer service skills. read more

What happens to the coffee cake! It was horrible! We always get one for Christmas morning and it was disgusting no vanilla at all it was heavy thick dense pound cake with way too much sour cream it tasted like those horrible Boston coffee cakes! Darby's has the best pastries in West Boylston!! I highly recommend the chocolate croissant, the raspberry heart cookies, and any and all of their muffins! It's an awesome breakfast spot. I love Darby's. LOVE. The word might not be strong enough. I started going to Darby's when I was in college to get some great chocolate croissants for breakfast. (Yes, I was driving 10 miles to get them.) As time went on, I tried their rosemary bread (delicious!), various French breads, focaccia bread (the chicken BBQ one is gooood), and Italian bread. Everything I tried was excellent. The staff is so friendly and cheery and will describe the different breads to you. If you're ever in the Worcester area, run over to Darby's, it's one great little bakery. read more

This little plaza has 3 total businesses, and each gets 5 stars. The bakery is spectacular. I think the best products they have are the breads, but I typically get roped into buying some Old Fashioned Lemon Squares (omg. get 3). It's a smallish place, and in addition to the breads, rolls, and such, they sell great foccacia and pastries. Quality of goods is an unquestionable - still gets 5 star rating but the customer service makes me sad. Most of the counter workers are very pleasant and helpful, but management seems cold and unwilling to assume responsibility for problems. The other day I witnessed a travesty in customer relations. A couple at the front of the line was buying a large assortment of pastries. They ordered the last remaining croissant, and the server rang it in on the register. In the meantime another customer ordered the same croissant and a worker bagged it and gave it to her. She refused to give it up. The couple who had originally ordered the croissant were not happy. They expressed they wanted the croissant. The clerk offered to take the croissant off their bill, but nothing else. I couldn't believe the manager didn't offer them a few freebies as consolation or offer a freebie exchange to the greedy croissant lady. Just one example of shoddy treatment. Too bad. Oh yeah - the comment about under and over charging is spot on. Errors happen regularly and are treated very nonchalantly. Receipts are not given unless asked for. read more

This is my favorite bakery around! Highly recommend to anybody! I usually stop in just to grab a coffee, which is delicious but will treat myself every now and then. As mentioned in a recent check in.. I grew up and spent most of my years in WB but in the past month, on my commute through weBo I have been to this establishment more than the rest of my years on this earth combined. How can this be? I've been told for so long of the wonders of this bakery.. its nice and cheerful employees, various cakes and sumptuous bread for decades now.. but only ever got a birthday cake from there once ages ago and random trips for bread. Somehow I missed the incredible cupcakes, out of control almond croissants ( honestly if you try nothing else GET ONE OF THOSE) and the REALLY traditional new England style coffee cakes and blueberry lemon cakes. They hit it out of the park with the 8 different fresh coffees every morning :( self-serve) and they even have a cute little ice maker for the die hard iced coffee nuts like myself! I also missed (somehow) the fresh pasta that aisfrozen or refrigerated to take home and make! They have simple cheese raviolis as well as the funkier kinds like mushroom and peppercorn. Its a little different week by wekk which is also charming. What did it for me to keep coming back you say? When I was at check out I noticed frosted doggie bone treats! SOLD! I saw Darby's on Phantom Gourmet. I knew that I had to feed my love for bakeries and needed to go check it out. What made me really want to go was seeing the cookie dough cupcake on TV. After trying the cupcake, it wasn't really my favorite but I'm usually not a huge fan of bakery cupcakes because the frosting is too sweet. So, I moved onto the next item which was the cinnamon roll (with nuts - also available without). This was a hit in my book. I love cinnamon and pecans so this was right up my alley. Over this past weekend, I actually went back to Darby's and go another cinnamon roll. Their focaccias are AMAZING. I've tried the plain cheese, sweet pepper, and most recently the buffalo chicken focaccias. They are so fresh and delicious - a must try! It doesnt get any better than this in bakeries. The cakes are to die for and the pastries are delicious. Everything is fresh and tasty. I love going to Darby's. Its the best bakery on the east coast. The homemade candy bars are out of this world. The white cake with buttercream frosting is delicious. Everything is hand made and all the love shows in the quality of the product. I stopped in to buy a couple of cupcakes and was really surprised by the selection. I bought the macaroon chocolate cupcake, all I can say is OMG. The coconut was amazing, you could definitely taste it but it did not overwhelm the chocolate. I only bought two, I sure wish I had gotten more. Also while I was there I noticed several people purchasing the focaccia breads so I figured why not. What a treat. I had the buffalo chicken and purchased a bell pepper one for my son. Mine was beyond good and he stated his was as well. Can't recommend this anymore highly. read more

I am disappointed by a few things. A piece of plastic showed up in a scone and cookies (some of there) were very dry. Otherwise, a good bakery...my suggestion is 'try harder' and remove dried goods. And be careful when baking? Who wants plastic in what they eat? read more

I've been going to Darby's since they opened. They have excellent breads except for the Rosemary which has gone down in quality the past 4/5 years. I don't try their other baked goods very often as they are pretty much standard fare but, their breads, they are worth the trip. read more

This place was absolutely lovely. I stopped on my way to the Quabbin Reservoir. West Boylston is an adorable town. The staff was incredibly friendly and nice. The prices were incredibly reasonable. We got a chocolate chip cookie, an espresso cake, red velvet cupcake, peanut butter cupcake & cheese/tomato focaccia bread... everything was delicious & super fresh. I think it was about $13 for everything. I live in the Boston area and have to say Darby's beats most places I've been too. Highly recommend! read more

I've been going to Darby's for at least ten years. Loved the place. Then a month ago my mother-in-law found a hair in her focaccia. She's since stopped going to Darby's. I still had faith in Darby's though. Last week I was in to order cookies to mail to my son at college. I ordered them for pickup on Tuesday (today). Rushed out of work to get them so I can get to the post office and mail the package today but when I went there they weren't ready. The girl I placed the order with put them in for next Tuesday instead of today. Aggravating. I've officially lost faith in them. Won't be back sadly. read more

This place is walking distance to my childhood home, and I have to say I am very proud that it is. They have delicious chocolate croissants, great breads and focaccia that makes for a great lunch. They also have pretty good homemade pesto. This smells delicious inside as well. Everytime I return home I am sure to check it out. read more

I've been going to the bakery for 15+ years. Best foccacia(sp?) and so many options for them. The girls who work in the front are always super helpful and will tell you all the different varieties. Its great to get your baked good then drive around the reservoir. I find consistency is so hard to find these days in restaurants and bakeries and Darby's has never lost it. Love it! read more

FINALLY, after living in MA for 2 years, a cinnamon roll worth making a special trip to buy! Also, today we tried their Manicotti. Seriously, OMG! It was really good. Darby's made our wedding cake and not only was it beautiful, it was VERY delicious. They were very helpful with getting the cake to the venue that morning so it didn't have to sit in the fridge with the other food all night. They were very accommodating.
