I travel for work from Sacramento to the Central Valley, and whenever I'm in Manteca, I stop at Bean & Leaf. Honestly, every single time. Everyone here is so sweet and helpful, and from what I've observed, they know many of their customers by name. You can feel the genuine sense of community. That same care carries over into the food. Everything is fresh, wholesome, and intentionally made. You can tell they care about the food they're serving and the people they're serving it to. For the longest time, I couldn't stop ordering the turkey pesto sandwich because it was that good. Once I finally started trying other menu items, I realized it wasn't just one great sandwich. Everything I've had has been delicious. The coffee and tea are exceptional as well. Manteca is so lucky to have a place like Bean & Leaf. This morning, my husband and I visited, and we were somewhat disappointed with the quality of our orders. He ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk, while I ordered an oat milk latte with an extra shot of espresso at a temperature of 200 degrees. He also selected a ham, cheese, and egg croissant, and I opted for a bacon and cheese croissant. Regrettably, the items did not meet our expectations. The beverages lacked the desired strength; although the temperature was correct, I was informed after placing our order that they were out of oat milk and had to substitute it with almond milk. Given that we had already paid approximately $30, this was quite disappointing. Despite these concerns, we did not request a discount or refund, and we accepted the substitution that was communicated to us approximately 10 to 15 minutes after placing our order. On a positive note, the staff were very courteous, and the establishment was clean. However, I suspect that the items we ordered may not represent the best offerings on their menu. While the service was commendable, there was a notable wait involved. It would have been preferable to have been informed of the oat milk shortage prior to payment, as we might have chosen to leave at that point. Unfortunately, our dissatisfaction led us to seek alternative options, and we subsequently drove to Stockton to visit Peet's Coffee, where we consistently find lattes prepared to our liking. This is a convenient quick stop if you are looking for fresh food. We stopped in for coffee and breakfast on our way to a meeting and weren't disappointed. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful! We were only looking for breakfast so didn't try what looked to be delicious sandwiches l, but I can vouch for the avocado toast - either plain or fully loaded! We purchased one of each. All are reasonably priced. You place your order at the counter and the staff will bring your food to you. The setting is simple and there are seats inside and outside. One of my favorite cafes out here in the valley! Nice spot for a quick Sunday Lunch. The brick walls, framed mini art gallery with signs, and plants make the place feel pretty cozy. They support local artists and have their artwork displayed on the wall for sale! It's always changing every time I come back, so it's nice to see that they support that. Their menu is written on chalkboards on display with a huge variety of drinks and food! Pastries that are baked fresh are also available -- such as banana bread, lemon bars, chocolate chip scones. There's also decent amount of seating inside and a couple of tables outside. Always clean! I particularly like coming here for their lattes and sandwiches. We love a classic iced vanilla latte that isn't just milk and you can taste the espresso. They use Equator Coffee and make their own bread (sort of a Dutch crunch rendition), so can't go wrong with that! Sandwiches come with kettle chips, but you have the option to add $2 to upgrade it to a salad. I've only tried their Turkey Club and Turkey Pesto, which both are equally delicious. Their bread really completes it in my opinion and adds a nice crunch. Everything is priced decently. Depending on the size, the lattes have never been more than $6 (rare I KNOW) and sandwiches remain at $12 - $13. I've called in my order a couple of times, which saves me from waiting 20 minutes for a sandwich on the weekends when they are busier. I like that that's an option they promote. I've only had one instance where they messed up my choice of milk for a latte and one of the baristas was kind enough to make me a new one entirely, so great service! read more

My husband and I visited this gem for the first time today. We were unaware that they've been open for years, but its better late than never! Upon arrival, the ambiance was lovely. The entire staff was welcoming and kind. Many smiles throughout - they really look like they enjoy what they do! The menu has plenty of delicious options to choose from! We went with a few breakfast options (avocado toast and egg & ham croisant), all of which was delicious! My husband and I shared a medium iced coffee, which was made perfectly! Local and hidden gem in Manteca! I stopped by for a late breakfast with my bf before we went on our road trip and we were really impressed by the food and drink we got. I'm not too familiar with Manteca but the cafe seemed to be located in an older part of the town in a plaza with many other stores so there is plenty of parking. The cafe itself is very homey and has lots of nice artwork on the walls. We got there around 11 am and there was a long line but it was moving quickly. We were still indecisive when it was our turn so we went the staff's recommendation: everything bagel with chive cream cheese, buffalo chicken sandwich, and zebra mocha to share. Everything was so good, I just wish i went with a different shmear because I thought the chives would have been mixed in and not just placed on top. The coffee was good too and I'm usually not a fan of mocha drinks. The only thing I didn't really like was the close proximity of our table to the tables around us and no public restrooms. My other office is located south of Stockton which I visit once a month. This used to be the closest small biz takeout place I supported for lunch --until how I was treated here. No major issues with the food. I've ordered hot sandwiches (turkey pesto), cold sandwiches (veggie), and the occasional salad (Asian salad), and they're decent for the Central Valley. But the staff? That's another story. One of my biggest pet peeves is when staff calls an order by name and another customer--who clearly doesn't have that name--tries to take it. This happened to me today so after waiting 10 minutes, a customer who had just ordered blocked me from picking up my own food, asking if it was theirs. That's already inconsiderate customer etiquette and I told her "it's not yours"--but here's where the real issue is. The staff person justified it, saying, "Well, you two ordered the same thing." No. Just no. My very brown name was called. My order was ready before hers. Yet somehow, there was still hesitation about whether I should receive my own food because I corrected the customer on the spot. And to all y'all who know, yes, they both were. It's frustrating when this staff member actively enables it instead of reinforcing the simple fact that names exist for a reason. I've seen this kind of passive-aggressive behavior before, and I don't need to spend my money at places where customers who don't look like the staff member aren't treated equally and fairly. I'll give 2 stars - one for the food, but the experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If you're looking for takeout where all customers are treated with the same respect, your money is better spent elsewhere. read more

Our drinks were perfect and must say better than Starbucks as we are Starbucks fans and the drinks were way better here. We are big fans of stellar service and at the same time, we are understanding when things are sometimes not so stellar because of circumstances that are beyond the control of the business, like when they are super slammed with orders, but when things are slow, and service sucks anyway, there's no excuse. We stopped here and got a pesto pizza bagel and bottle of water for our daughter. From the time that we placed our order to the time that the order was ready a total of 18 minutes elapsed. A few people came in and left with short orders during this time. There are 4 people behind the counter and one sitting outside on a break. They were not busy fulfilling orders, and we could not understand why it took so long to get our order. Also, everyone here had foul gazes, not a friendly face to be found. The workplace dynamics seem quite a bit off here, as my husband witnessed one employee giving another employee grief for "not doing what she said she would do" as she was giving him our order. The topper to this entire experience was not the terrible service or having to witness passive aggressive behavior between employees. The topper was that they burned the bagel and then saw fit to serve it to us anyways. Covering the charred bagel with cheese doesn't make it taste less charred. This is not worth $12. Now we know why it took so long for them to prepare it. We love to support independent businesses, but these guys gave us an experience that we will definitely not be back for. read more

Turkey pesto & salad side: if you like pesto and turkey, you will love the sandwich. The bread is nice and warm also and not doughy or too much bread. Chose side salad instead of chips and you do have to pay a little extra for it. Side salad was delicious and the dressing that comes w/ it is one of the few dressings I use. Bean and Leaf Cafe is the place locals are glad to know and have in their neighborhoods. Inside, they have a corner dedicated to local art and has a cozy, familiar feel, warm and inviting as compared to all those well known chains and what they present. On top, the flavors are better here. All their food and drinks show the care you'd want and hope to find. For example, their triple berry scone is light with a nice hint of sweetness, vs the ones you usually get that are dense and have a finish like a kids breakfast cereal. This is one of the few places that the Mrs will actual have a coffee drink. Again, it's lightly flavored and works well together vs the heavy handed flavors of chain stores. I've generally been treated well by chain store servers who put up with my bad jokes, but Bean and Leaf employees are helpful, friendly and go out of their way to make sure your order was right. When the guy brought it over i opened it and said whats this? No, reply. I will not be going back. Bad, sandwich, or bad sandwich maker. But not at all worth the price. I could have went to Raley's and had a better deli sandwich. I highly do not recommend this sandwich or restaurant to anyone, save your money and go to Safeway/Raley's Deli for a better sandwich. Oh, and one other thing my friend needed to use the (Bathroom) and they didn't let her use the bathroom, she had to go to the store to use there's. The staff here is super friendly. I came here on a Sunday morning and they let me know that there would be a wait for my food which I didn't mind. I ordered an medium iced vanilla oatmilk latte. The cashier let me know the medium size only comes with one shot of espresso. The latte had a nice flavor, not too sweet but definitely watered down. I would recommend getting two shots of espresso if you prefer a stronger coffee taste. My sandwich came out hot and toasted with a side of chips. The sandwich is pretty good, the ingredients tasted fresh and I love how there's mushrooms inside. I was only able to finish half and it tasted just as good when I heated it up again the next day.
