They claim to be "high end" but when called for a simple duplication of a case key, they said they "didn't have the equipment" What locksmith doesn't have the equipment to duplicate a key? The key in question was for a jewelry case at a retail jewelry store at which I work. It is a legitimate key for a standard (within the showcase industry) lock. read more

When my dad was dying a few years ago, I locked myself out of my car on more than one occasion. Had a lot on my mind those days. One time he was directly across the street and came right over. I've had a few other occasions to need Bob's services for work as well. He's fast and good and personable. Rates seem a little high, but I don't really have much to compare to. Amazing! Definitely call Bob! I locked myself out of my apartment and he came as soon as he could. He was fabulous - I trusted him, he did a great job, personable, great price etc. He was much better than other locksmiths I have used in the past - hands down - and much better priced. While locked out, I called around to other "locksmiths". Bob warned me about them, and he was right, they are not really locksmiths and they basically try to rip you off. I cancelled another service that I didn't trust and they showed up even after Bob was there and tried to get me to pay them for showing up. Bob handled the situation and was wonderful. After a little research it is clear that there are a lot of guys out there that claim to be locksmiths or handymen that can't actually do the job and ruin your lock. They pop up with a number and website but no credentials and then charge you an arm and a leg. Don't let that happen to you - CALL BEACON HILL LOCK. Called to schedule a basic deadbolt replacement. Explained I attempted to do the work myself last night but couldnt remove the old deadbolt myself as I dont have the proper tools. Told me "I love guys like you" and was very condescending towards me and defensive. Acted like I was bothering him by trying to give him business. Very unprofessional, I'll be calling someone else. *Response to his response* Complete fabrication on his part, I never said a thing about dicking around or that it was an emergency. Personally if someone wrote a poor review about my business I would try to work on doing things better versus lying, I was shocked to read his response. I just signed up for yelp today and have never written a review before. I'm assuming he just was having a bad day this morning when I called him but the lying portion of his response is of more concern than his poor customer service. read more

Very positive experience! We lost a key to an armoire years ago. Bob had never done work for us in the past, but was recommended to us. I called Bob and he was over at our house just minutes later. With the tools he had available, after 20 minutes or so of trying to open the lock he was unable to do so and said he would return at another date once he received "blanks" from the key company. Without knowing Bob, at this juncture, I was pretty sure that I wouldn't hear from him again - because it seemed like a bigger than expected job. True to his word however, a few days later he texted me to let me know he had the "blanks" available. After a few minutes of lock picking, the armoire door was opened. Bob did amazing work on our home in Weston. Moved in to an older house with doors that didn't close correctly and when they did we couldn't open them as the knobs would spin. Bob was a lifesaver. Had an emergency situation on a weekday evening where the doorknob lock was broken and door was cracked around the doorknob enough that it wouldn't fully close or lock properly. After calling several Cambridge/Boston area locksmiths with no response, I called Beacon Hill Lock and Bob immediately answered the phone. He was willing to travel the hour from his home to work on the issue that evening, but also gave an option where he could coach me to fix the lock temporarily for the night. The temp option worked, and Bob arrived promptly the next morning to assess the situation. He was able to fix everything and install a new doorknob, metal plate and lock. Also, he only charged for the hour of his time that day (not the evening phone assistance) and parts. Bob is very straight forward and honest.
