Go to Jerry before falling for those other service call scams!! We got locked out of our home today and we called a few companies to ask for quotes and how long it would take for them to arrive. We had a bad experience with the the first technician that came who wanted to charge us 220 to open the front door and unit door, he also wanted to drill the lock. We paid the service fee and called Jerry whom we spoke to on the phone earlier. Jerry was very honest on the phone and warned us about other "locksmiths" who would just drill your lock for exorbitant prices. He came within 25 minutes to our place in Malden and opened the two doors with ease, no drilling required. His prices are really reasonable and he is a real locksmith. read more

I wanted to have my back door locks rekeyed to match the front, and a quick Yelp search revealed that Sir Locks-A-Lot has a near-flawless rating, so I decided to give them a shot. Gerry and Dave showed up right in the middle of the promised window, and replaced the back lock in about half an hour. I wound up paying more than I had expected, because it turned out that the existing back locks weren't compatible for keying with the front and so had to be replaced with compatible ones. But the convenience was worth the extra cost (the old back locks were inoperable from the outside and had been driving me bonkers), and I appreciated the speed with which they took care of business. Also they seem like a high-integrity operation; Gerry pointed out the arguments in favor of replacing my front door lock as well but candidly advised me that I would be best off just giving it a few more years until it is more acutely in need of work; he did not try to pressure me into replacing it right now as well. Who knew finding a locksmith could be so difficult?? I had called around to find a company that would re-key the locks in our new house and ended up speaking to a fake company that (luckily) ended up blowing me off. BEWARE OF LOCKSMITH SCAMS!!! apparently there are a lot of fake companies out there trying to get money out of people and the one I spoke to was Middlesex Lock and Key. They do not exist, be careful! I ended up stopping in to the True Value in Wilmington looking for guidance and the owner recommended Sir Locks a Lot. I spoke to Gerry over the phone and he was very nice and told me exactly what he could do and how much it would cost. He even told me exactly what to get at Home Depot to save myself some money. When he came out to my house he came with his son and both immediately got to work. They replaced 2 sets of locks and re-keyed a 3rd for under $100 and it look less than an hour. He has over 20 years experience and was very friendly and professional. You very rarely see a business on Yelp with all 5 star reviews and this one truly deserves every one! read more

I just scheduled Gerry to install an electronic keypad deadbolt that I read about in Consumer Reports. He was familiar with it and said he'd installed many of them & was a fan. What can I write that hasn't been written already? Gerry is a very honest and knowledgeable professional. He discussed the ins and outs of some of the deadbolt/lock options I was mulling over, but I never felt like I was being pressured into anything. When day of service arrived, he was very communicative on when he'd arrive so you can rest assured that if you have an apt. at 1, he'll be there--and if doesn't think he can make it on time (even if he'll be 10 minutes late), he'll call you to let you know. Aside from installing new deadbolts and changing locks, he was also able to provide us with some history of the doors / frames based on appearance and repaired portions. Since Comm Lock didn't do house calls (pun intended), they gave me a few names - Gerry was the first one I tried, and ended up with and boy am I ever glad. Needed to rekey a house lock, and he was prompt. Mentioned that there was an issue with Nest Lock and he fixed that, too. He's super courteous and prompt - things that make life go a lot easier when you have to deal with hiccups like this. But I also get the sense that this is JUST how he is - just read all the other reviews. He's consistent, and does great work consistently. You want a guy like this as your first call. My experience was doing a google search first, in hopes that finding someone close is more helpful... it wasn't. One guy gave me an astronomical quote, another place didn't know what they were talking about and I was glad to have landed on Comm Lock in my search. Less than 1.5 years ago Gerry replaced 5 deadbolts at my house. My impressions were: 1. He seems like a nice guy and 2. It was surprisingly expensive (~$650 for ~ 3 hours work, including the cost of the deadbolts). The quality of the work seemed okay, though our front door deadbolt has been tight/difficult to insert from that day. A few days ago one of the deadbolts failed - it was the only lock that Gerry had to rekey himself, so that 2 different keys could turn it. Suddenly one key no longer worked. I tried emailing Gerry for help/suggestions but received no reply. So, I don't want to trash Gerry's business, but I do want to leave an honest review for others: I found the cost higher than expected and the quality of workmanship lower than expected. I will likely try a different locksmith next time. read more

This father and son team are the NICEST guys around, and they totally know what they're doing. We use them a lot, and on two different occasions when we called them out for small jobs, they didn't charge us. Gerry was of excellent help to us in providing advice and installing new locks for our newly bought home. He advised that our current locks were not of the highest quality and recommended that we go to Home Depot to buy our own locks as to save some money.
