The Beach Pub is an old place. Been here for ever, but it's great. Breakfasts are as good as they get. Try the clam fritters, my favorite. Pancakes are huge, light and fluffy, mmmm. They have seafood specials all the time. Call them up and ask what the special of the day is. They used to have a pound of steamed shrimp on Thursdays, maybe still do. Call them. In the evenings it's drinks at the bar if that's what you're into. All the locals hang out here. Gourmet this place is not, but you get plenty of food and it's cheap for the beach. This is one of the last great family restaurants/pubs (the bar is a separate room with TV's for sports) remaining at the Oceanfront area. If you want to eat where the locals eat, this is it. Great seafood for great prices. It is a family friendly atmosphere and you can actually afford to take your "whole" family out. The Beach Pub has fantastic specials like: all you can eat flounder, five pounds of hot wings, all you can eat fish and chips, prime rib and a whole range of different items on different days. This is not a crowded "meat market" bar full of idiots nor is it a snobby, high-priced money pit. This is just good people, great food and honest prices...period. As a local and a regular customer, my recommendations are any of the breakfasts (they're all fantastic). Be sure to try the clam fritters if you like spicy food. Lunch showcases fabulous sandwiches. Their burgers are 5 stars good! If you're there on a Saturday, get the Philly cheese steak. It's OMG mmm mmm GOOD! Dinner choices would be fried flounder, fish and chips, scallops on pasta (when it's available), Buddy's steamed platter or any of the locally caught seafood specials. One of their new items is shrimp cakes. Wow...these things are highly addictive. Don't forget to try the she-crab soup. It's the best you'll ever have. If you're not big on seafood, don't worry. There are plenty of other choices well worth trying. Every night there are different specials including non-seafood meals. On the "pub" side, blue collar and white collar folks gather for a cold brew or cocktail; again...very reasonably priced. It has the feel of the old "Cheers" bar on the TV show. Waitress was terrible she forgot the salad so it took almost an hour on the first-order reorders took 35 minutes and the waitress showed up to the table once or twice but couldn't remember what she came back she put the wrong orders in lots of extra charges that we weren't informed about. read more

We saw this place on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives so we had to try it. For just a short drive from the beach this little gen is totally worth it. We started with a lb of streamed shrimp, not to spicy and tasty cocktail sauce for dipping. We went to beach pub Saturday (8-24-13) and upon our arriving we were informed that there would be a 20 min wait. We were told by one if the locals leaving the restaurant that it was well worth the wait so, our party of 6 decided to stay and wait. Our 20 min wait turned into about 45 min wait and once we finally did get our table there was food all over the floor under the table where the previous party's children ha made a mess. We sat down and waited another 30 min before anyone even acknowledged that we were there. The host ended up taking our drink orders because (according to the host) out server didn't realize that she had been given another table and she was focusing all her attention on another party she had. We finally got our drinks, I ordered the "frozen mixed drink of the day" and was very disappointed. It was supposed to be a mango frozen daiquiri but, what I ended up getting was liquor and ice slushy. Our party was made up of 3 couples so, we placed our orders as 3 separate orders. I ordered the jumbo seafood platter fried and my boyfriend ordered the pork chops as did the other 2 guys in our group. When our food finally came out, the macaroni salad I ordered as a side was dry as flavorless. All of the seafood in my platter was extremely bland and tasted as if the deep fryer grease was burnt. My boyfriend orders the pork chops along with pepper jack pasta salad which ended up being couscous(they didn't mention that on the menu, that was a bit misleading). My boyfriends pork chops were over cooked, dry and terribly under seasoned. The crescendo of this epically horrendous meal was the fact that our server( and older female with short brown hair and apparently very forgettable as I don't remember her name, all I remember is the service and food) forgot to place the order of one of the guy in our party even though she remembered to place his girlfriends order and over charge them for drinks they didn't order. 5 of us were basically done with our meals before the forgotten pork chops showed up( alone without the sides I might add) also over cooked and tasteless. My boyfriend and I are both chefs with over 30 years experience between the 2 of us, and astoundingly enough I can say without flinching that this was without a doubt one of the worst meals and services I have ever the misfortune of being a part of. We wet to this place because it was on the food networks website due to its having been in DDD..... Food network might want to reconsider their endorsement of this place seriously. They should come up with a show where they revisit done of the places they've been and if they have taken a terrible turn as in the case with Beach Pub, they can sick Robert Irvine in them! All in all, we regret having gone to this place and wish we would have gone to Whitmers BBQ instead! That was about $55 bucks wasted for sure. read more

Had dinner here Thursday and the House Specialty Fried Flounder was absolutely Delicious ! It was cooked perfect with hush puppies fries and macaroni salad. My Father who is 94 couldn't believe the Huge Portions Of Flounder they gave us. Service was prompt and my sweet tea was always full ! Thanks guys. Great job ! Never in our lives have we sent back food and asked not to pay - until tonight. The fish and chips seemed as if they had been lying around for ages. The breading was chewy and gray, and the fish itself was tire rubber. My son ordered the crab cakes which were not as good as the frozen, microwavable type. But at least they were edible (unlike the fish and chips). The tartar sauce was a yellow color and tasted of cinnamon - not very appetizing on seafood. The meal was honestly among the worst we have ever had (and we're not picky!!). One positive: the staff was friendly, including our waitress, hostess, and the manager. Friday, June 8th, had lunch with two others and it was awful. Sat in the seating area of the bar where we received horrible service from the bartender who was also waiting tables. She had a terrible attitude, gave us bad service and when our food arrived it was cold. The shear rudeness of this longtime bartender is enough for the three of us to never return nor suggest this place to others. Yummy breakfast! The only reason I don't rate five stars is because we've only been once and have not tried meals other than breakfast - but we will. Updated with 5 stars since we've been three times this wee!k. Great food and friendly staff. My husband and I were about to argue because we were really over complicating where we going to eat! We pulled into beach pub because it looked like a local joint and, to me, that is a good sign. It is a local joint and is was a good sign! Older style place with very friendly service. We told our server, Amy, that this was our first visit. She kindly took us through the menu, daily specials and made recommendations - wow! I ordered Eggs Benedict and my husband ordered creamed chipped beef over wheat with home fries. We also ordered a side of corned beef hash to taste. The food arrived timely and was piping hot. Sadly, food rarely is served that way anymore. Our waitress explained the hash would be out but she did not want to hold up other food and that was fine with us. Hash arrived and, like the other food, was piping hot. Home fries made fresh / not frozen. Definitely an older crowd, but so are we - mud 50s. Amy checked on us several times and asked if we were pleased and said she hoped we will come back for lunch - we will. On the way out, we noticed a cozy, old school looking bar and think we may sit there for lunch later in the week. We really liked it - I really don't get three stars. read more

VB's finest dive. The service is sub par. The clientele is mostly grandparents. Decor is horrible...but the food is awesome. Stick with seafood. On Diners Drive Ins and Dives for their awesome oysters rock, Fish Hash, (now served with rockfish instead of spot, try it fried cajun, it rocks!!) their crab omelet , homemade clam fritters, and Broiled Rockfish with homemade Chardoney white wine sauce!! Awesome wing specials, 5 lbs for around 15 bucks and 5 awesome flavors to choose from ( Buffalo, Turbo, Teriyaki, Chipotle, or Sweet chili). Also, try the jumbo seafood platter served with flounder, crabcake, shrimp oysters, and scallops (enough for 2 people) and two awesome dinner sides!!! Lunch: The sizes are huge and extremely cheap! They have burgers Try the pub black a bleu cajun burger, or the buffalo chicken sandwich (My personal favorites)! The stuffed broiled flounder with backfin crab meat is my dads favorite and the amount of food you get is great! I also always enjoy the SUNDAY ALL YOU CAN EAT FRIED FLOUNDER nights because you more than get your moneys worth. Their dinner sides are also great, their side salads are enough to fill me up, and their steamed broccoli is huge! They also make special sides most nights and you have to try the broccoli salad if they have it, its to die for! Its an older locals secret that my family and i have enjoyed my entire life! I have sent MANY folks to eat here. NEVER again! We have been eating here for yrs & in the past yr or so MANY things have changed. We're not sure if there are new owners or old ones that don't give a crap anymore. I had the horrible pleasure of trying to dine there tonight. Unfortunately for me the hot wings were on special. An XL man sitting ACROSS the room ate them without using 1 tissue. He made all the most horrible noises, snorting, sucking on the chicken, burping & sucking his buggers back up his nose, then coughing up all he just sucked down. The waitress in red kept going over sweet talking & laughing with him. I can't believe she could stand to be that close to all that disgusting noise & slobbering-some will do anything for a tip. I swear I almost barfed. I didn't want to say anything while he was there to embarrass him & had to wait, reading my book until he left. (2 sodas later!!!) When I complained to THREE waitress only ONE even said sorry. The other two didn't care in the least that "I just paid $22.00 for a meal I couldn't eat." I told one of them they should have given him a tissue, there is no way they didn't hear all his slobbering & snorting. 2 of them looked away when I said that. Then to get 3 complaints & do NOTHING. Went to Beach Pub today while visiting the area after seeing it on Triple D. After seeing the menu we thought about leaving and I wish we had. The seafood was all deep fried and unappealing. Tried this place on a solid recommendation from a friend. My friend has good taste in food and I know she would not steer me to a place that was not worthy of a visit. The establishment is clearly a local hangout, but that's okay. What's not okay is the preparation of food. This places sells itself as a seafood place. I order the big seafood platter, broiled not fried, I'm trying to keep my heart happy. My son ordered the sirloin steak. My seafood left much to be desired, there was no flavor what so ever, I have to give it to this place here in DC a platter with all the seafood that they serve for $22 would easily cost $45+ here, but would hopefully have more flavor. My son said his steak as cooked well, but there was no flavor. We had the chicken wings as an appetizer, my son's favorite; he's 10. Those were good and flavorful. On my next VA Beach, I will not return. It's too bad, because, I like the homey, friendly vibe, but the food.... not so much. read more

Took the family for breakfast. We were seated immediately, and beverages came quickly. The coffee was weak. Tasted like the cream and sugar I added. Eggs Benedict- would have been ok if the English muffin hadn't been cheap & cooked to early. The choc chip pancakes didn't even look good. And they weren't very. Cooked at too high a temp & dry. Came here from the recommendation from DDD. Would not come back. We got the Rock fish sandwich which was overly fishy tasting so it was not finished. Also got the softshell crab sandwich which was fine but was fried too long, tasted like the fryer more than the crab. Sides were uninteresting, pepper jack cheese salad was unique. Oh and the "clam chowder" was nothing more than potatoes, clams, and onions in chicken broth. $5 do not waste your money. Mimosas were served in beer mugs. Very little juice, lots of champagne, probably the most redeeming part at best. Food was served very quickly too which is the only reason it gets 2 stars read more

My friends and I have been here several times over the years. I wish the food and service was more consistent. Our experience this last time was awful. Our waiter was either untrained or he just did not give a darn. My crab cakes were soggy and had an off flavor. My friend said her rockfish just did not taste like rock fish. My she crab soup had a good flavor but was served luke warm. I never did get the corn muffin that came with my meal. The oysters were delicious, the reason for the three stars. We also stopped here on the advice of DD &D, big mistake. First impression was that it was a dark, damp, old restaurant with an odd odor, kinda like wet dog. But we stayed the course expecting good food. Disappointed, I agree with the other reviews that the plates, cups etc were all old and had seen some hard usage. The food was just this side of ok. Decent place to eat of you crave seafood fast. I decided to try this place as it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, & Dives. As it was cold, I ordered the she crab soup. A bowl. I should have stuck to the cup. The only good thing i could say us they put lots of crab in the soup. Otherwise, it us very bland (no seasoning at all) & very thin. Not thick as it should be. Next, I ordered the crab dip. Not bad...better than the soup. My fiance & I ordered the seafood platter. This us enough for 2 people. We got ours fried. The shrimp, scallops & oysters are good. The fried fish lacks taste as well as the crabcake. The only thing missing was some clam dish & when I asked, the waitress said it under the broiler. Not sure why she didn't mention this when she bought our food put. Imagine my surprise when she came out with a tiny clam with a small piece if bacon on top. That was it...1 clam! Honestly, they should be ashamed ! For $25.00 you couldn't give us at least 3! As stated...decent place to visit, but for really good quality seafood, I'll eat elsewhere next time. read more

Waitress disclaimer: waitress did a really good job. We were very hungry and not feeling argumentative this evening. Just wanted food. PLUS, the place had been featured on DDD - so it must be good - right??? Not the case. Arrived at the place - only one other couple there, but it was late in the afternoon. Had initial thoughts of a certain "nightmarish" kitchen show when we pulled up in the rather empty parking lot. Should have listened to our gut feelings. My wife ordered the crab cakes and I got the flounder. Mine was fairly tasty but spoiled by nearly choking to death on a bone - for $13.99 they could have gotten rid of most of the clusters of bones I found in the fish. Additionally the tartar sauce I was served was yellow and beginning to separate from sitting out for too long - it was at room temperature. I asked for more that was refrigerated and there was a noticeable color difference between the two. My wife said her crab cakes were bland, so I tried them - in my opinion - a crab cake that had been sitting around for several days and finally got a chance to be served to an unknowing victim. Had a musty undertone with hints of ammonia. I knew right away these things were foul. My daughter ordered the rock fish sandwich and she thought it was so so. Took a few bites and threw the left overs away. The highlight of the meal...the sweet potato fries, they were actually okay. The pepper jack salad wasn't very cool and it was bland as well. Pass on this one... Food is overcooked and bland. They have an item on the menu called fish hash and they list a slew of items, potatoes, onions and bacon, that you would think would be cooked into a nice hash. Like a corned beef hash. Unfortunately what is served on the plate is a piece of fried fish with plastic cups containing bacon, onion and tarter sauce in them, accompanied by potatoes spread on the plate. You would think the waitress would explain what you are getting. We also had a seafood platter, which was overcooked and dry. I asked the waitress if I could have a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, she had no clue, so she said let me check because they run out during the day often. They don't offer fresh bread, their idea of a bread basket is a basket of saltine crackers. We got their at 3:55 and ordered 2 beers, when the waitress came back to take our food order at 4:10 we were going to order burgers but she said the kitchen changes over to the dinner menu at 4:00. Very unprofessional and poorly trained staff. This place gives a Dive Bar a bad name. A place that has ripped seats, dirty floors, filthy bathrooms and unkempt everything is not nostalgic or homey, it's disgusting. Guy Fieri must have felt that he was obligated after bringing a crew there for 15 hours and you know he has nothing negative to say. Finally when leaving, we passed the side of the restaurant where the kitchen was and we saw to people dressed in kitchen attire smoking their brains out. Say no more...... read more

Customer service and food was horrible. Waiter was new and had no clue as to what he was doing. No manager came to my table to apologize for the horrible service. The Steak had no season at all.
