I used to like going to this cute little diner, despite it being a bit expensive, but after my last visit I don't think we'll be going again. The new owner took away the menus with all the signature burgers and instead put up a board that you have to order from at the till. It took twice as long to order as I had to build my burger instead of picking one from a menu, she kept interrupting me to ask if I wanted this or that, and we had to wait for each person in our group and the people in front of us to go through this. Instead of sitting at a booth and deciding what we wanted, we had to stand at the door waiting to order from a board. Takes away from the diner setting and makes it feel closer to fast food. Dropped in for a bite to eat at 3:30, no one was overly friendly towards us which wasn't from being busy, considering we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time...my friend ordered the Elvis burger, he added cheese ( it was processed cheese for an extra $1.45 ) and fries were $2.95 ..they were maybe 20 in the order, yes they were good but far too few!! We did not care for this restaurant's food. The atmosphere while very busy and loud was quaint and the staff friendly and pleasant, the food was less desirable. The burger didn't have much flavor. It was thin and lack luster. The "large" chili dog came in a paper lined basket which melded into the chili and you had to be very careful separating the paper from the food. The French fries were something that we are still trying to figure out. The flavor was almost synthetic. Was it bad oil or a cheap potato-like product? Unfortunately even when you execute the food perfectly, if you are working with cheap products you food will reflect this. read more

I have a family of three and typically we enjoy eating at Be-Bops. Each time we've gone, however, it's gotten progressively worse. Tonight was probably the last time I'll take my family there, at least until I hear things have gotten significantly better. I ordered one of their cheeseburgers and as soon as I picked it up, it fell apart. The bun was so dry and of poor quality, that it instantly fell into over a dozen pieces. I like a somewhat messy burger if it's good, but this I couldn't even bring to my mouth. I waved a waitress over and showed her. She took it away and brought it back about five minutes later. The solution? Scoop up the entire burger, bun pieces and all, and place it on top of another equally-stale bun, put it back in the basket, and hand it to me. "Double-bunned" they called it. So I'm trying to eat it by picking out the individual pieces of bun from the inside, which takes out most of the cheese and sauce in the process, leaving me with a mess inside of a mess. $6.45 for a single burger, falling apart, and with ingredients worse than burger king. Actually, take any burger from Burger King or Carl's Jr, and it's pretty good compared to this. The meat was dry and cooked lifeless, and the fries were lukewarm and tasteless. The only thing good about this place is the beer on tap, but of course they don't make that now do they. The guys behind the stove are dirty and dejected-looking, leaving the grill for long periods of time with meat transforming into hockey pucks. The waitresses are friendly but their smiles are fast and forced. The 1950s kitsch is fun, but it doesn't count for much when the food--the stuff you go there for--is such poor quality. $35.15 for two single cheeseburgers, a side of onion rings, a kid's mini-burger and fries, one lemonade, and one Boont Amber Ale, with tip (I'm not the kind of person to withhold a tip for bad food, that's what complaining is for). The only things I would eat again were the onion rings, although oily, and the beer. A shining example of the kind of low standards you come to expect in Ukiah. It's not the worst place I've been to by a long shot. But mediocrity and low standards infuriate me more than incompetence. Because it implies that they aren't even trying, and don't care. I'd rather someone fail completely than to not try. You can teach someone who fails. But you can't teach someone who doesn't care. Eating here, I wonder if the owners themselves even care. Probably not, as long as the tables keep turning. But maybe that will change. All I want to do is take my family out to some casual fun dining, and get food that I can put into my mouth that's worth the money and my time. Is that too much to ask for? I'd like to have the owner of this establishment over to my house for a cheeseburger and a beer (which I brew myself). I can't guarantee that they'd be the best burger or beer they've ever had, but at least they would be made by someone who cares. read more

But, a cute 50's themed restaurant in the former Savings Bank building is nothing unless the food is good. The food is OK but not outstanding. Our first visit my wife had a burger, hold the bacon. She reported it better than In-N-Out burger which has been our favorite commercial burger. I tried a chile cheese dog- I think it was canned chile. Onion rings were greasy. For some people that's the whole point of onion rings, but I prefer mine drained. Wife had dish of ice cream for dessert - it was a BIG dish. read more

just had lunch here for the last time. I tried to love this place, each time I have gone the service is terrible. it's not that the waitress is not doing her job, it's that she needs help. they have 1 waitress & 1 bus person, while the hostess does "stuff" stuff I am sure that needs doing, but food is why hungry people come to places to eat. getting it promptly would be great, this has never happened here for me. Yesterday my husband went to lunch here with this son, they had a good meal , so they wanted to come back, I went a head of them & got a table, the vent above the stove was not working so the place was filled with smoke, we decided to sit outside, even though sitting in the hot air with the traffic as our entertainment was not our 1st choice. we had our orders taken at 12:20, we did not get our food until 1:pm there were people waiting when I got there at noon, that got their food just before we did. Our food was "ok" it is burger place, if you go there for anything else such as I have, you will be very disappointed, today I got the Sea Cruise fish sand. it was too much batter too over cooked dark, surrounding a tiny piece of fish. so I ended up with bread too dry falling apart with all the breaded grease & American cheese... tomatoes & ice berg.... for lunch.... the burgers the guys had were good they said, the fries were too dark & dry for any of to enjoy. Absolutely terrible service. The server was rude and did not listen to what we needed. When we got our food it was cold and the burger was very tough and dry from sitting. We told the owner and she gave us free food but also just rushed to get us out instead of listening and trying to fix it for future visits. read more

We ate there for the first time a couple of days ago. My wife and I split a burger and fish & chips. Some pluses and minuses: + Atmosphere - like what we remember from the early 60s. + Burger was very good. + The cole slaw that came with the fish & chips was very tasty, not over-mayonnaised like the cole slaw in most restaurants. + They understand fish & chips well enough to have malt vinegar on hand, even though it normally comes with tartar sauce (ugh!). (Whoever eats fish & chips with tartar sauce should be permanently banned from the UK.) +/- Waiter was friendly and accommodating, but it took some major signaling to keep our water glasses filled. -- Fish was overcooked and the portion was stingy. One small and another smaller piece of fish. We didn't try the malts because we had plenty of food as it was. But they looked rather expensive for what you get. We'll probably go back the next time we're in Ukiah. Not the best place we've been to, but not too bad, either. read more

I used to love this place... recently it has gone downhill, and now I have gone for the last time. The waitresses are not friendly at all, and the cooks are sloppy. Vomiting all night long and today unable to leave the toilet has made sure that my last purchase was truly my last. My brother and I are both sick, and to make matters worse I am 6 months pregnant and now have to worry about my baby because the people who work here do not know how to properly handle food. read more

Great everything! A little pricey, but the burgs & shakes are excellent. The service is spotty at best however. Be prepared to wait a while. Went there last Saturday at halftime to get some burgers to go. It was a little after 3pm. We we there for at least 25 minutes. The girls up front were great, but the cooks were painfully slow. It was a slow part of the day too. I'd hate to see them during the lunch or dinner rush. My buddy wanted a double burger, and they only put one patty on it, and put it in a basket instead of a to go bag. This seemed to confuse everybody. So we had to wait some more. By the time they got his order ready to go, we didn't want to wait around any longer for my grilled onions that they had failed to grill. If you have to be anyplace or are in a hurry, forget about it. But if you have plenty of time, and want a delicious (Blast from the past) traditional hamburger, shake & fries, this is a no brainer. read more

Okay, to start off, Be-Bops has THE WORST smelling ladies room that I have EVER been in. It is SO AWFUL that I would rather not go there just in case I might need to use the restroom during the meal. In the events that my hubby won't take no for an answer (he loves the Bop Fries) I try my hardest to pick something new on the menu, because every previous thing I have gotten has been mediocre at best. Bebop's is exactly what Ukiah needed. A fun, clean diner with decent food for decent prices. I can't speak for the burgers that some seem to be complaining about since I can't seem to stay away from the hot dog side of the menu!! Also love the Arnold Palmers, syrups in the sodas, huge and unique flavored milkshake menu, $5 draught pints (including some local stuff, and Blue Moon), and crazy dessert menu ( fried Oreos and Twinkies). Service each time I have gone has been simple but friendly, at a normal speed for any place cooked to order. If you are just swinging through town for one day and want somewhere to eat with either great food or great atmosphere, Bebop's is not the first place I'd send you. Ukiah has better places to show its visitors. But I wish SO MUCH that it had been around when I was in High School. It's the perfect cute, affordable hangout spot for locals that want a shake or fried snack or dessert and are sick of scuzzy Denny's and Jensen's. I would have wanted to work here and wear a poodle skirt, too. The two dollar shake happy hour is the best deal in town, hands down. The burgers are a little hit and miss, but almost always above your chain burger joint offerings. Parking is good and the prices are in the right range. Outdoor seating makes it pet friendly but there's not much to look at on the corner. While on a visit to Ukiah, we tried Be-Bops Diner and found it to be mediocre. The decor is cute inside with its 50's diner theme. One of us ordered a hot dog, usually a safe bet, but it was not good. The hot dog was split in two and overcooked and the bun was crusty, not soft. The other two in our party ordered hamburgers, which were average. All of us ordered fries and they were all soggy, definitely not appealing.
