The movers wrapped everything incredibly well including many large paintings etc. they didn't damage the house we left or the house we moved to or even 1 piece of our furniture! It was very hard to believe actually with the volume and size/weight of many of the items. They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. We were disappointed with our recent experience with Bookstore Movers. The crew was polite, but the…read moremove felt much slower and less efficient than it should have been. We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

We had a horrible experience with college hunks for today's move…read more We originally had two reservations, one in PA to load the moving van in the morning, and another to unload the moving van in DC in the evening. First the morning move was cancelled several days before it was scheduled. The local office said the national office didn't have their schedule and they had no availability. We had to schedule with another company to do the loading a week later, which ended up going smoothly. However, we decided (foolishly) to keep the unloading with College Hunks. They were scheduled to arrive between 6 and 8pm. Around 3:30pm, they called to ask if they could arrive early. We said they needed to keep the original 6 pm time because we were driving down from PA. They called again at 7pm to say they were stuck at another move and they would be late. We expressed how important it was to do the unloading tonight because we needed to return the truck in the morning. They said ok. At 8:50, we hadn't heard from them, so called the national office. They said someone would get back to us in 15-30 mins. By 9:30, still nothing so we called back. They said a manager or the "hunks" would call us ASAP. It's 10:30pm and we've heard nothing. Please save yourself the headache and use another company.

They were also very patient when one of the cleaning guys in the building inadvertently block the loading dock and needed to move. After that was corrected, they came right to my door and loaded everything up very efficiently, even wrapped up my couch in like 2 minutes! I was running a few minutes late to my new place and needed to still get the elevator key from the leasing office. These guys are pros: they had started to bring some of the boxes to my apartment and just kept the train moving without being asked. They also communicated clearly throughout. The prices they charge are more than fair considering the level of service they put out. They also use a web quote system that keeps everything transparent (you can also create an inventory). Would definitely recommend! Pro tip: They discount if you pay cash.

So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that.
