This was suggested to us. It is great, I really like the picnic style tables. We got here and we're sure what to expect as it is a seat yourself and only one person at the counter, with customers. She came over apologized and got us served very promptly. We got the meat sampler, brisket was my favorite. It had a nice smoky flavor, very tender. Ribs were my husband's preference, they were served dry and had a nice sweet bbq flavor. He does like a little kick so he opted for the spicy bbq sauce. We got house salads that were a lettuce blend, tomatoes, green onions, and shredded cheddar, perfectly per-portioned so you don't feel like your just eating lettuce. Based on the reviews here on Yelp, it appears that the people in Boise aren't familiar with real good barbecue. Don't get me wrong, it's OK at BBQ for life--just not "all that" as many folks seem to think. A good BBQ place would blow people's minds, but this place doesn't even have brisket - or tasty BBQ sauces. The standard sides we had were just "meh" as well with the Mac n'cheese having very little cheesy flavor (though kudos for the fact it wasn't moosh) and the Cole slaw being overpowered with onions to the point that was all we could taste. I come to BBQ4LIFE regularly. This review is based on my overall experience of multiple trips. Food - Easily the best BBQ in the valley. Period. Service - While dining in, I've had to listen to a vegan server talk poorly about meat, and while I can appreciate his personal views and the fact that the restaurants caters to his diet, you should never talk poorly about a staple product of an establishment to customers. Today specifically though, I called in a dine in order and was told 15 minutes. That was at 6:35, and it's now 7:20 and I've been sitting in the restaurant for the past thirty minutes watching as the kitchen filled orders out of turn, and myself as well as 4 other patrons have been sitting and waiting for the food that should have been done a while ago. In addition to our orders being done out of turn, another peso. Had to come back in because their bread pudding was forgotten in their own to-go order. I used to come here all the time until I tried the vegan nachos which are the most vile thing I've ever tasted. Be careful because they don't list nutritional yeast as an ingredient on the menu. Nutritional Yeast is really bad for you. Its like MSG. Do your research. When I felt dizzy after eating half I asked the waitress if the vegan cheese contained Nutritional Yeast, she said, "Of course, that's how you make vegan cheese." I was so appalled because her attitude was as if I should have known even though its not stated on the menu and not all vegan cheese is made with Nutritional Yeast. I told her Nutritional yeast makes me dizzy and that I can't eat the rest and she told me that it was "too late" because I had eaten half. She spoke to her manager and they only gave me 30% off my dish. I think they could have at least offered to replace the dish with another of my choice or comped my meal since I was obviously allergic to it, but they did not. On another occasion I ordered the beans and greens vegan burger and it was half the thickness compared to previous visits. When I pointed out to the waitress that it was half the thickness she made some story about it being the same weight but they used a machine to thin it out instead of making it by hand. I let her know that if they continued to prepare it like that, that I would not be back. I did get another patty that was handmade to take home. That was a great turn around until I cut the patty in half and noticed it was mostly beans! No wonder I'm so gassy after eating there. BBQ4LIFE is hands down the best BBQ place in the Boise area! I have gone here a couple of times and every single time the staff has been super nice, this last time especially! The waiter interacted with my kiddo which my son really loved that! In addition to the great staff the food is very delicious and has not disappointed me the three times I have gone already, I had the Bigfoot sandwich with Mac and cheese and pulled pork and it was the bomb.com! To top it all off we ordered the brownie and I will have to say this is THE BEST brownie I have EVER had! I would defiantly recommend dessert! Plus the homemade mousse that came with the brownie was also exceptional and I had previously worked at a bakery and the mousse at BBQ life definitely beat the one that was served with our chocolate mousse cake! We are not from around these parts and like to try new places whenever we are in town. Unbeknown to us, we had Indeed been here before, when it was at its original location. We ordered the 1/2 sampler which included Ribs, Pulled Pork, Tri tip, and a side, we chose the Brussels sprouts and added a side of the butternut squash. Let's start with the meat... The Tri Tip : Awesome. Perfectly cooked to a medium rare. The pulled pork : Also awesome. Super juicy and fatty, lots of flavor The Ribs: Good, but the weakest of the three. I appreciate that they are served dry rub style. The sides: A little disappointing. It pains me to say because I love their business model. Gentle cooking methods to retain the integrity of the veggies, that being said, it still has to be something you want to eat. The Brussels sprouts were lacking in flavor and Luke warm at service. To my surprise, the butternut squash is served cold. Talk about a mouth shock. Our cute server told us that if we want to, we can ask for the squash to be served hot. I would recommend it. The house sauces were good, I liked the garlic one best, though it did seem a little bit like ketchup and garlic. Overall a decent bbq place, though I think that the sides could still use a little tweaking. Don't change the model though! read more

I split the Bigfoot and a tri-tip sandwich "Philly Style" with a buddy, and while the tri-tip beef was excellent, cooked perfect and had great flavor, we both agreed we would order the Bigfoot next time. It was so good, I ate the whole sandwich. I really enjoyed the medium spice sauce, just enough kick to cut the sweetness of the sauce but not overpowering, which I dipped each bite into the cup! The ribs were decent, moist and juicy, they could have been more tender, (pull off the bone easy) but it wasn't. The tri tip were so dry! My least favorite meat here. The pulled pork was very moist and tender, my favorite. In the end I think most BBQ places are made or break by their sauces. I have this place and average score because it lacked variety and the sauces were all one note. It is one of the top BBQ joints in Boise though so I'm glad I got to try it out on my way through. (3 stars for food, but everything else is a 5) PRICING: on average the sandwiches ranged from $9-11. Appetizers from $4-8. What a cute little spot! We were visiting and this was one of the few good spots for vegans food! It also has non vegan food for our non vegan friends.
