Everywhere I find myself I ask where the good barbecue is in town. Neighbor Tim's kept coming up, so I made a bee line for the downtown food court. Upon arriving I was not really clued in to the size of this food court, or the variety of tempting foods that occupy so many stalls. Tim's was easy to find either by sight, or by nose. I tried some pulled pork, brisket and some baby back pork ribs with a side of barbecue beans. It looked amazing, smelled amazing and eventually as I worked through my meal, tasted amazing. Not just for Boise, but for anywhere. The atmosphere of the food hall really added to the experience too. You would sit near other people that ordered from other stalls, and you could spy on what they were eating. It was clean and well policed for trash and to clean dirty tables. The bathrooms were clean too. I'll be in the area for a few weeks and will most definitely be back for more.

One of the original anchor eateries at this food hall and maybe the only one of the original handful that remains as turnover has been high for the others. I ate here once, right after they opened, but I have eaten take out many, many, many times from the Neighbor Tim's 'mothership' on Goddard in Boise and every time, at both locations, the food has been excellent, the people friendly and the service efficient. The food is all scratch made. I don't know if meat smoking is also done inside this downtown, food court kitchen location, but if you head out to the Goddard location you can smell the smokers that are at the back of the site before you even see them. Tim's sources their beef from an Idaho ranch run by a young couple and carefully sources other items too. The German sausage is made by a nice Romanian couple who own a great sausage making place and deli in Nampa. And so on. TWO LOCATIONS + CATERING: If you want to know more about Tim Goebel, the good and honorable man who owns the business, you can find it in the reviews at the Neighbor Tim's page for the Goddard location. After moving his business from Santa Barbara to Boise in 2020 and revamping an old coffee kiosk building on Goddard to become the first location for Neighbor Tim's, he opened this downtown location. Tim's business does a huge amount of catering both in the Treasure Valley and just outside it for things like weddings, birthdays, church gatherings, reunions, construction crews, military groups, law enforcement events and so on. Word of mouth about the splendid job done in catering leads to the abundance of catering work. GOOD FOOD + WARM SERVICE: Neighbor Tim's never misses for my household for food quality and for the quality of the customer service; I have often said if Tim Goebel could bottle the spirit of service he embodies and trains the people he hires to model too, he could sell that. Prices and full menu for platters, single meats, sides, sandwiches and salads can be found at the link here. Tim's is famous for brisket but my husband and I don't eat beef so we've enjoyed pork ribs, pulled pork, German Sausage and all of the sides. Prices for sides are $4. A one meat platter with a side is about $15. Meats are also sold by the half pound. https://www.neighbortimsbbq.com/bbqmenu ACCESSIBILITY: The food hall location is level in the doors from the sidewalk, has ample clear floor space inside for diners using wheelchairs and offers some seating at standard height tables. Didn't check the loo but this building is only 2 or 3 years old so one should assume ADA compliance in those. PARKING: On street in downtown Boise is a bear in this part of town. Parking garage nearby but not much better. Know before you go.

Pit style BBQ is a food court. Not something you see everyday. But, I was more in the mood for BBQ than any thing else. Mid-week dinner hours. Not busy. When I walked up, most of the sides were uncovered. Not something that should be to maintain temperature and food safety. Still, I wanted BBQ, so I ordered the brisket and a side of beans. The service was FAST (it was plated before I could even finish paying). Note: the guy behind the counter wasn't the most friendly. He wasn't rude or anything, but just didn't seem excited to be there or help me. I liked the look of what he served up and it's tasted really good. So, high marks for the food, but a could dings for service and food safety concerns.

I was at the food hall to listen to some music and found myself enticed by the smells of the barbeque. There was a bit of a line, so I walked around and then came back after it died down. I figured that was a good sign-since none of the other eateries had lines. I came back and ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side of beans-then filled a small cup with the house barbeque sauce. I'm definitely not a connoisseur of barbeque, but I've heard there are different types, depending on the region you are in. Maybe I've gotten used to a different region, because what I had here was very vinegary and I didn't care for it. Both the meat and the beans had harsh undertones. It was made stronger with the sauce, so I think it's the flavor of the BBQ sauce that I don't care for. Regardless, it may just be a personal preference, but I did not finish the sandwich or beans-I ate as much as I could, but eventually tossed it. Too bad, it smelled so good.

It was pretty good. Had the pulled pork with German sausage and beans and a side salad. Variety of sauces. Thin sauces but signature sauce and Kansas red was good. After I was eating read my receipt and it shows no pickle or onion. I would never say hold picked it onion. Guy was in such a hurry and I guess just doesn't ask. PS my salad had onions.

Yall this is the best bbq in Boise. Okay so I went in thinking oh it can't be that good but I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was so friendly, the servings for my two meat plate were plentiful and they even asked me what cut of brisket I wanted. The fatty or leaner cut? Fatty all the way. I was in heaven they asked me. The brisket melted in my mouth, the pulled pork was also delicious and the Mac and cheese and pickled onions... NOM. I will definitely be going back often and being an avid bbq lover and bbq-er myself... I still dream about the fatty brisket. I mean I would honestly be okay eating it for breakfast lunch and dinner with how juicy and delicious it was. Also their sweet bbq sauce was incredible. Highly recommend neighbor Tim's. Thanks for a great experience and delicious brisket

I throughly enjoy BBQ. I've gone through Kansas City, Texas, South Carolina and more. When it comes to BBQ, I look forward to any pit-master's technique and craft. The service was great. The gentleman at the front counter was very nice and welcoming. Food options in The W are limited. The brisket sandwich was cold and the driest thing I've ever tasted. No flavor or seasoning at all. I asked to refer to the brisket because I saw the meat in the pan, looking fresh. If the protein was cooked the day of I'd be shocked. After the first bite I was throughly unimpressed. This is not BBQ. At all. I try not to leave a negative review's but again, this is not BBQ. Being around a few locals this evening I overheard they are very unhappy with the Boise food scene. I now understand why. I've had better brisket in Colorado. Save your money and your tastebuds for somewhere else in Boise. I highly recommend Fork in Boise. They do not disappoint.

He was very informative about where to go and places to check out in Boise. I ordered one of the local beers and their flagship meal, the Santa Maria Tri Tip Sandwich. As you can see by looking at the photos, the tri-tip was cooked to perfection. It had tomatoes, poblano, and chimichurri sauce on it to add to the flavors of the tri-tip. The bread consistency was great, not too soggy, and with a great crispy texture. I wish they had spread the tri-tip out more to make sure every bite was being celebrated. I also ordered the mac and cheese as the side per the instructions of the bartender, James. Let me say that was one of the best mac and cheeses that I have ever had. Truly amazing creamy texture and full of rich flavor. Everything melted in your mouth. Definitely worth it. I eventually ended up talking to a fellow bar sitter, and he ended up being the co-owner of the place, TJ. He also filled me in on the places to go and, most definitely, the places to travel to, to experience great beer. He was refreshing to talk to since most people don't have the passion for beer that we both represent. I would highly recommend this place for the staff that is there the solid pub style restaurant that they have created. Super easy and relaxed kinda of place.

I also ordered the frito pie. The chili was dry and there weren't many Fritos with it. No cheese either. We got the Philly style chopped tri tip sandwich. The bread and meat were dry. The redeeming dish was the Mac and cheese. It was amazing!

The two servers behind the counter are completely discombobulated. And, one of the employees just touched the inside of my sanitized to-go container with their bare hands after being out on the floor, touching dirty dishes, handling the dirty cash register, touching other surfaces. and everything else. The other server seems to be completely lost and staring off of the distance wiping counters while there's orders pending. My order. She really doesn't seem to be able to focus very well and know what to do. For example, there are plates of food sitting on the prep table, ready to go out and she walks over and looks at my ticket and then just stands there and wipes the counter. My to go order would literally take probably 30 seconds to put it into a container, weigh, and hand it to me, but she just won't do it. And, the other patron's food is getting cold. It seems like the guy that's on duty is the brains of the operation and he's doing all the work. I get out to my truck and the burnt ends feel really light in contrast to my brisket order. I ordered a half a pound of burnt ends, and 1/3 of a pound of brisket. Something isn't right. I take the burnt ends back in and show the guy that was at the register when I came in, he agreed something went wrong. It looked like a third of a pound, but I would argue that it wasn't even a third. By the way, this was prepared by the girl working that was daydreaming. He then made it right and handed back my tray, which I was grateful. He was apologetic and he took care of it well. Just to be clear, he did not give me more than half a pound but he made it right. And then went to go pick up a plastic fork, that's usually over in a cup on the counter, but there were none. So I had to get their attention quickly and ask for a fork and they pulled one up from behind the counter, after I was told they were over by the beverage machine. They both seem surprised that there were none up there ready to go. The food as usual was delicious. This is the sad part. The service is all over the map and completely in need of some serious management and restructure. I realize that it's very difficult to get good help these days, but this is a training issue. I can't go back in now knowing that the last 3 to 5 times I've gone in there. I've always had a problem with service. If the food was piping hot when it arrived, I might not be so bothered, but this lack of efficiency causes the food to be delivered cold. That's not my definition of a good experience. If you have a lot of time on your hands, and you don't mind waiting, and you don't mind your food warm instead of hot, then I would say venture out and try this place because the flavor and textures are good. Just set your expectations accordingly. The atmosphere is comfortable and rustic. A little loud because of the openness, no booths, just tables and chairs with 1/2 booth. Lots of self service going on here so be careful before you tip at the register. By the way, I chose not to tip at the time of payment when I walked in because I don't like tipping in advance of receiving the service. The purpose of the gratuity is to compensate your server based on the service they delivered, not will deliver or should deliver. Or in this case didn't deliver. I realize that not tipping on the front end gives the employees a chance to retaliate with poor service because you didn't tip. Oh how the times have changed.
