I walked by this on the way to Sky Café and was captivated by the poster outside their door about a drink option with all their toppings. I was overheated from being in the sun for 20 minutes, so that poster was very appealing to me. I kept thinking about it throughout my meal at Sky Café. Therefore, my friend and I truly trotted over afterwards. When we were deciding what drink to get, we noticed a young guy with an elderly grandma who bought many snacks from their shelves and fridge, so my friend and I went to browse too. We don't go to Vietnamese cafes and markets much, so many things we saw there looked interesting to us. Unfortunately we couldn't try everything, so we just window shopped. My friend ordered the Kumquat Thai Tea. It tastes like what it sounds like but that actually bothered my friend lol. When I tried it, I was surprised by how it's not as refreshing as I expected. I think the Thai tea base could be more clear. The cup wasn't sealed properly, so tea kept spilling as we walked. I didn't want to get the wintermelon tea, because I saw prebatched bottles in the fridge, so I would question what's the difference ordering with them vs grabbing a bottle myself. Therefore I decided to order the cane juice hoping that it will be good for the summer heat. They said they ran out, so I got the citrus lemongrass tea instead. I'm amused they gave a slice of orange. My drink was more refreshing, and it's a more unique flavor than generic cafes out there so I'm pleased. It wasn't too sweet. The café has cute wooden benches and tables. The selection of Vietnamese snacks were intriguing and should be legit given the old grandma bought a lot. Sleeper hit at BB Tea House. I did not expect to like it this much. Ordered a dragon fruit bubble tea and their house banh mi. The drink was refreshing and fruity with a natural tartness from the dragon fruit. Not overly sweet even though I forgot to ask for less sugar. Their 100 percent sugar tastes more like 75 percent, which I actually liked since I usually go for 50. The boba had a nice chew and was not overly sweet either. The banh mi was really solid. Crispy toasted bread on the outside, soft inside, with a good balance of savory meat, pickled veggies, and fresh herbs. Bright, tangy, and satisfying without feeling heavy. Went around 1:30 so technically past lunch, but it was still busy. There was a bit of a line and people kept crowding or cutting, but the staff were working fast and getting orders out efficiently. They also have a small front area with grab and go items like bottled drinks, spring rolls, and other snacks. There is even a heated case with fried items by the register. Did not try those this time but definitely will next visit. Seating is limited, more of a quick stop spot, but perfect for a casual bite. Overall really good. I've been here multiple times! If you can get past the craziness of the parking lot, this is a place you can find a lot of good Vietnamese snacks. We love the Egg Foam Coffee! It tasted pretty good; a nice mix of milk, tea, and ube. I could really taste the tea in the aftertaste, but it paired well with the sweetness of the ube and milk. I love this place. It is similar to Ba Le on 6th and Washington Ave, but more relaxed and hip. It has all of the classic Vietnamese foods, snacks, and drinks. There is a seating area and bathroom. Somehow came across BB Tea House ads on Facebook. I do love Vietnamese cuisine, u know is a must go for me. I went when they have their first soft opening weekend. But when I came, it was late in the day so most items were sold out. But I was able try a few items. I love the Brulee Creme Milk Tea, Dragonfruit Tea and Grilled Pork Banh Mi. My daughter loved the Brulee Creme Milk Tea and Strawberry Mochi Donuts. Hubby loved the Taro Milk and the cakes on the counter. We finally found a place that we all can enjoy together. Came back and attend their Grand Opening on December 2. First 50 gets free drink. Nothing sounds better than FREE lol. With that being said, my family and friends made the first 50 lol. Found this "diamond in the rough" Vietnamese banh mi place in South Philly. It is located in a Vietnamese shopping plaza a few blocks from Geno's. Parking is free but can be hard to find on weekends. Be patient. Inside is bright and clean. They have the buy 5 get 1 free sandwich special!!! I thought most places did away with this offer. Well, we got 6 sandwiches (5 +1 free) lol. The bread were French baguettes and not the lighter fluffier Vietnamese baguette version. The sandwiches were stuffed with the usual meats, pate, pickled carrots, sliced cucumbers, cilantro, and jalapeño peppers. They were delicious and filling. This is one of the places my fiancé and I keep returning to even if it isn't frequent. Their banh mi is my favorite out of any place I've tried and when I've gotten drinks from here strangers on the street have stopped me to ask where I got my drink from (specifically with one of the coffee drinks). There is a pretty standard selection of bubble tea flavors, and I tried the taro milk with low sugar which was delicious. You get one topping free, and I got the black pearls which are smaller and softer than typical ones. The medium was $6.50, which is on the pricier side. The drinks are not as complex but taste just as good as the Gong Cha drinks next door. I also love that the shop sells Vietnamese snacks and frozen foods as well. The best sugarcane drink in the city (and I have tried a lot). Make sure you get the one with kumquat. Delicious! Banh mi is among the best ones in the city too (and I have also tried a lot). I think they recently perfected their baguette recipe, and the new recipe is very delicious! Crunchy on the outside and soft and moist on the inside. Filling is delicious too. My problem with the banh mi in Philly is that they always feel dry, especially if you're the no-butter gal like me. But the banh mi here is not. Each bite is flavorful and juicy from the meats and whatever sauce they use (and not soaking wet from the pickled radish like some other places). Much better banh mi than even Ba le. The desserts and snacks are tasty and very authentic. Our favorites are "che dua dam hai phong" and "banh trang tron" Other drinks are hit or miss for me. Tried the olong milk tea and was not impressed. Well, but my tea standard is high and none of the chain in the city has impressed me recently.
