I'm a little bit disappointed in Shaken Beef. It was thick and quite chewy. Pho Tai was good. Large portions. You will have some leftovers!

You must order the crispy pork spring rolls! I love that they come with lettuce, cucumbers, mint and pickled carrots. 12/10!!! I tried the shrimp pad Thai for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. I give it a 9/10. It was full of flavor and had bites of tofu which I loved. I would have loved extra bean sprouts and fresh spring onions. Chili crisp on the side would have made the dish 10/10.

I've been a fan of Vietnam Restaurant ever since I ordered their takeout food last year. Last weekend, I finally got to try their dishes in person. Taste-wise, I must say that everything we ordered was on point: from the house special vermicelli bowl to the bbq platter. Service here is quick and efficient. Our food arrived only about 5-10 minutes after we ordered. I love that they provided us with the nifty rice paper holder that doubles as a hot water bowl on the side. The bbq platter is perfect for a group of 4-5 people as the portion of each side dish is generous. I also love their Vietnamese coffee, but I will have to stay away from it when I need to get a good night sleep as it kept me awake almost all night despite drinking it at lunch time. As for ambience, this place is pretty cozy and intimate. Since this place is in Chinatown, I wouldn't recommend driving to here as parking could be difficult albeit possible to find with enough patience.

    Seafood claypot,

The seafood clay pot was kimchi based. All they did was put five shrimps, couple small slices of squid and premade fish cakes in kimchi and added water. Totally not worth it.

I had a nice meal at Vietnam. The shrimp summer rolls were very good and the accompanying peanut sauce went perfectly with them. The vermicelli bowl I opted for was the chef's special which had pretty much everything on top. The fried spring rolls were delicious, the meatballs were good, the chicken was not great, it was tough and not that flavorful. The pork was delicious, but one of the pieces was full of gristle and not edible. The noodles themselves were good, but could've been a little more robust, and the whole thing would've been better with crushed peanuts on top. All in all it was a good meal, but had some misses, I would consider giving it another shot sometime.

I'm ashamed to admit that i've lived around the block from this restaurant for almost a year and I only just made my first visit. Walking in, I was really taken aback by the style of the interior because it was so unique and different from what I initially anticipated. I really liked the warm vibes and think it would be a very nice place to get together with friends but also a nice place to go for a quick bite to eat. We got the caramelized shrimp, beef pho, and crispy egg noodles. And when I tell you the meat was SO TENDER like when people say melt in your mouth and fall off the bone, THIS IS WHAT THEY MEAN. A hundred percent will be going back, I genuinely loved the food and the service was quick. I want to try their drinks because it seemed like they have a nice bar too.

    Pork Vermicelli

Terrific noodles and favorable broths in both the Pho and Pork Vermicelli dishes. It's a cozy dark environment but during the day the blinds were open allowing brilliant light to pour in. The Lai's family history is a lesson of tenacity and hard work. The service passionate. The potions are large and I have plenty leftover for another meal 4 noodles!

    Vegetarian pho

Pho shop was busy on a Friday evening. Ate the vegetarian pho and the vegetarian spring rolls. The pho was tasty and not salty. The vegetables were very fresh and crispy (aka not overcooked in the broth). I ordered some extra boiled tofu and they brought it fresh without any issue or argument. Would definitely come here again to enjoy another meal. Moderately priced, and friendly service.

This place was recommended by a friend who's local in the area so I decided to try it on my last day in Philly. Thankfully I went on a right day as the restaurant is closed on Mondays. Ordered a whole bunch of food, was happy to see Vietnamese ice coffee on the menu so ordered that too. I went at an odd time (3:45pm) for a late lunch so I had the place basically all to myself. The food was pretty good, I really enjoyed my vermicelli bowl with mixed proteins. The place is nice and clean, including the toilets. Our waiter Umesh was nice and helpful, not to mention friendly too.

    House special vermicelli

Great lunch here. Had the special Vietnamese ravioli, delicate crepes with ground chicken and mushroom, the house special vermicelli and tofu vermicelli. The house special noodles had grilled chicken, pork, meatball and fried spring roll, a definite winner and nice to sample a little bit of everything. Vietnamese coffee was a perfect way to finish. A little off the fray in Chinatown, and worth a visit.

Stopped by with some friends to enjoy some Vietnamese food! A very casual setting inside and lighting is on the dimmer side. Crispy Pork Spring Rolls 8/10 - very crispy and easily shareable Papaya Salad 6/10 - found it to be a bit bland Claypot Chicken 7/10 - lots of onions and chicken was tender - sweet and savory -- wish there was more chicken Lemongrass Steak Broken Rice 9/10 - steak is juicy and delicious - lots and lots of rice, but not enough steak Salt Pepper Squid 8/10 - nicely seasoned and crisp - with green peppers, red bell pepper, and onions Enjoyed our meal here! It'll fulfill your cravings for Viet food for sure. Service was average~.

The biggest surprise was the tái (eye-round steak), yet still retaining that pleasantly chewy texture of undercooked beef; the gầu (fat brisket) was thick and crisp, fragrant but not greasy--who would have thought I'd find brisket fat here? This showed the restaurant's precise control over the broth temperature and the thickness of the beef. Almost all phở restaurants claim to offer authentic raw beef or various cuts of beef, but very few can truly make customers feel the difference. The restaurant's decor is simple but spacious and clean; the service is average, but very efficient. Efficiency is essential for phở, otherwise the beef would be overcooked in the hot broth. After all, the essence of a restaurant is food, and for such affordable ones, it's gratifying to see them spend most of their costs on the food itself.

Their Bún Riêu, Duck Soup (served with a unique ginger sauce and bamboo shoots) and Bún bò Huế all hit the mark. Pho Today gives you two choices for the classic Fish In Pottery Pot, bone-off and bone-on. Many Vietnamese restaurants don't carry this anymore. One thing I should tell y'all is that, when you order your meal, ask for the homemade chilli oil.....they won't give it to you unless you ask: it's made with garlic and is really special. If I were to nitpick I'd suggest upping the ante on the spring rolls which are more of a footnote here. I much prefer the larger spring rolls, cut into 4 sections served with basil, veggies and lettuce for wrapping. But, yea, this place does a really good job and seems to be the go-to for both Vietnamese food and serious eaters.
