Cafe Couleur was a tasty find! I stopped by for a quick lunch, and their menu is pretty simple - they offer 2 types of banh mi and some drinks. I ordered the Vegan banh mi, which came with young jackfruit, kimchi, cucumbers, and pickled daikon; jalapenos can be added upon request. The banh mi itself was generously filled, and the fillings were pretty saucy and juicy; the baguette itself had a wonderful crisp exterior and just toasted perfectly - probably one of the best breads I've had! I also tried their Pandan Green Ice Tea, which was prepared well and refreshing. The cafe itself is super cute and has limited seating, and very well-decorated. Dined in for lunch on 3/13. Pretty unique place and kind of hidden. The owner is a chill guy. I ordered #1 and the pandan green tea. #1 Ham + Pate Banh Mi - 5/5, tasted really fresh. Glad how the Banh Mi breads were toasted on the spot. The Jalapeños were cut too, so it doesn't make it too spicy. The meat tasted delicious. I would order again! This place has been on my list since a really long time - we live fairly close by but the hours never seemed to work for us - until today. Finally got the chance to try Cafe Couleur and I was dying to write a review as soon as I tried their Bánh Mì. I cannot think of a reason why this place doesn't have a lot of reviews - most likely because of the location which is easy to miss. The menu is limited but that's the speciality of this place. They have two types of Bánh Mì: a Meat (a combination of a few different types of meat) and a Vegan (Jackfruit) Bánh Mì and about 5-6 different types of drinks. We tried both flavors - both ridiculously good but husband and I agreed that the Jackfruit lives up to he hype and was a clear winner. Nothing is pre-made and the owner, Pete - who is so friendly, makes them as you order. Everything was super fresh and he was generous with the ingredients. The Vietnamese Iced Coffee here is fantastic - it has a nice touch of orange peel and the ice cubes are actually made out of frozen coffee and not plain water. The interior is so cool and eclectic. The tables are made out of old sewing machines and the chair fabric is made of various pieces of jeans. We asked where he got the chairs from and he said everything in the cafe is designed by him and his wife! I was so fascinated by all the work they put into this cafe and the quality of the food they are serving to their customers. If you want to have a really nice meal, I highly recommend you stop by when visiting Old city. read more

Only positive things to say! Small menu but it doesn't need to be any bigger - if you want a Bahn Mi, these are quality. The drinks are also sensational and iced teas come with tea iced cubes as not to water it down. Very cute and comfy space to hang out at. The most impressive part was the service. It was pretty steady traffic in and out while I was eating there. This man was cranking out quality Bahn Mi's while simultaneously memorizing everyone's orders and allergies/preferences. Wow, just wow! A few weeks later, and I'm still thinking about my bahn mi. I was visiting Philadelphia and was walking around Old City when I saw this tiny spot next to a fire station. Cafe Couleur is tiny but mighty. Only offering 2 types of bahn mi (with meat or without), a few smoothies, and teas. I opted for the bahn mi with meat, and a mango pineapple smoothie. Only one person was working, and he was so nice, and apologized for the time he was taking to make the smoothie and sandwich, but it was truly no bother at all, it was just nice to get out of the heat. I took my meal to go and it was so hot out that I probably drink the entire smoothie on my five minute walk to my hotel. Once I got to my room, I tore into the sandwich, and I couldn't believe how good it was! Genuinely one of the best bahn miI have ever had. My coworker recommended this place and I'm so glad that she did! The banh mi was the most flavorful banh mi I may have ever had. The vegetables were full of distinct delicious flavor, more so than the usual pickled veggies included, they really stuck out. The sandwich as a whole had so many flavors working together. This place is a one man show it's seems and he couldn't have been nicer. The multiple payment options are awesome (cash, card, Venmo) and that he informs you of the options is even better. The inside of this shop is so fun and feels like you've walked into someone's studio full of a hodge podge of projects - my favorite being the jooths aka Jean booths. We didn't wait long or at least it didn't feel like it since there was plenty to take in. The Vietnamese iced coffee I ordered was a bust but I'm wondering if it was just an off day. I've walked by this spot so many times, and it seemed every time I was hungry they were closed (closed on weekends) but today I finally stepped in. I ordered 2 bánh mìs and a Vietnamese coffee. Pete, the owner/operator of the spot was the only one there and we instantly jumped into great conversation about the music scene in Philly back in the late 90s. We ended up knowing a lot of the same people. Philly is a tight knit group. So even before eating the food I was already a fan of this spot. Pete served me his special take on Vietnamese coffee while we talked and he made the sandwiches. The iced coffee was excellent, but different and less sweet than Vietnamese coffee I've had in the past. He also used ice cubes made of coffee which was an added bonus for a coffee junkie like myself. After we talked for nearly 20 min, I walked home with my sandwich and WOW! Such a solid bánh mì! I told him to make it like he would make it for himself (spicy) and he knocked it out of the park. I'll be back and I'll be bringing all my music friends here when they are in the neighborhood. I was willing to get it with just the roast pork and the pork roll but he wouldn't let me. He said he would rather lose the business. So I won't be going back. He confirms if you have any allergies before making drinks and uses ice cubes made of coffee/tea so your drink doesn't get watered down. My favorite is the Iced Green Blue tea - very refreshing! Such a cool spot! The interior is really unique with some sweet denim couches to sit on. Right outside are a few seats as well with plants all around them. Walked past here several times thinking it was just a standard cafe, but finally popped in and realized it was a Vietnamese cafe with banh mi and viet iced coffees. I'm guilty of going to the same places over and over. I'd passed this place more than once in my way to the RTM but have never stopped in, u til today. I had no idea it was a Vietnamese cafe with a friendly owner, a lot of plants, and cute comfortable decor. I got the Vietnamese coffee which wasn't quite what I was expecting, less sweet and far more interesting than what usually goes by Vietnamese coffee. This place is phenomenal. Their Banh Mi is so good. Both the original with the pork and the veggie one with jack fruit are so amazing. The owners give really good service and it's nice to know I have a go to Banh mi place in Philly. They also have really good coffee and is a great place to bring your computer and do work or study.
