This local gem is a great spot for the pop-up market, and also for treats and drinks that have a beautiful Ethiopian vibe. I tried the Ethiopian chai which was delicious and came with some oatmilk. The avocado toast was also delicious. The folks who own the spot are so kind and friendly, and I'll look to visit this spot when in South Philly.

Stopped by for Sunday morning coffee and breakfast. The cafe was peaceful, clean, and well decorated. Coffee was average. The redeye was super strong and the cinnamon on top was a nice touch. The iced latte was a little weak but tasted okay. Food was lackluster. We ordered the lox bagel sandwich and injera with alicha (carrot and potato). The bagel sandwich was fine. Light on the salmon and heavy on the spinach. Underwhelming. The injera and alicha was disappointing? Injera was cold and the alicha was very liquidy. Like soupy... The girl working the counter was very sweet and this cafe was cute. But the food could use some work.

Injera entree with sides and flavorful tea for first timers was my TooGoodToGo. The coupon for first timers might not appear- so make sure you ask if it is your first time with TooGoodToGo with Guzo. The food here is quality and the teas are flavorful. I never want to turn down prickly pear- so I bought that as extra. Drink sizes are nice here. Staff is friendly.

Actually came here for a TooGoodToGo order (app to reduce food waste). When I got there, the woman at the counter was super friendly and took her time to make/warm up the meal....which a lot folks don't do when picking up these type of orders. So props for that and the care when greeting customers. A+ for customer service. Now to the food...I got the Ethiopian meal with rice, some greens, stewed veggies, and a spiced chicken curry w/ egg (not sure of the official name). I've had Ethiopian food very few times but enough to tell that this was good. The chicken was tender and flavorful, which is crazy cause it was 8:30 AM in morning lol so initially assumed it be some yesterdays dried up jawn. But It was indeed flavorful and a little kick to it. Mixed that gravy up in the rice w/ those veggies and it made a hearty, yet not heavy meal....you can tell it was pretty clean, not too oily, and for me it was a good meal to start the day. All in all, highly recommend this place. Next time I need to try some of their Ethiopian chai/coffee items. Also the pastries looked delicious.

Meat Platter from Too Good to Go

I got the platter through the TooGoodToGo app, and highly recommend!! Guzo Cafe was absolutely amazing! The meat platter was incredible--perfectly cooked and flavorful. You can really tell the food is made with care and authenticity. The service truly made the experience unforgettable. The workers were so kind and welcoming, and they even gave us extra tea and food, which was such a thoughtful gesture. They made us feel genuinely appreciated and at home. I will 100% be coming back and recommending this place to everyone!

Guzo Cafe is such a great addition to the neighborhood. Wubet, the owner, is wonderful. Guzo Cafe offers delicious Ethiopian food. The vegetarian platter is very delicious. I've also tried the chicken platter but the chicken is very spicy and too spicy for me. Guzo cafe also opens up its space to host different meet ups and pop up events, so I love how they support the community.

Great spot across the street from the park. Passed by here to grab a coffee and realized it was just opened about a week ago. Very spacious seating spot and the owners are very friendly and welcoming. The coffee is pretty good and well priced for the neighborhood. They do have ice coffee and specialty teas. I saw they have bagels and croissants from four worlds bakery on woodland Ave. Definitely must try if you're walking around the area

Great customer service. The matcha lattes were perfect, and I was so impressed that they stick 2% milk! I liked that they offered sweetened and unsweetened matcha. The veggie sandwich on sourdough was really good too. I can't wait to go back and try the Ethiopian food!

August 4th Updated Menu with Ethiopian Brunch items

I don't normally review any place unless it's outstanding. I've been living at Hawthorne for almost 10 years and there has never been a local cafe that's satisfactory until this one. This new cafe is what you call "a hole in the wall" which is an absolute treasure. Even though it's new, the family oriented environment will have you believe they've been here for decades. Upon entering t's very obvious the place is very well maintained and clean. The pastries on display are fresh, and the items on the menu are better than you could imagine. The menu is very simple breakfast items and drinks (Coffee, Tea, Chai) with a few Ethiopian choices from their recently added Brunch section. I must recommend the Alicha (Potatoes and Carrots). IF YOU DONT TRUST ME, that's your loss. It's simply amazing. After Yaas Fruitea Cafe on South and 12th closed their business over a year ago, it's been hard trying to find a Cafe you could actually enjoy visiting. I'm definitely stoked about this business and I'm happy it's in the neighborhood. It's something Hawthorne really needed after 2020! Cheers :)

It has…read morethe ease of a neighborhood café, yet the confidence, visual sophistication, and social energy of a much larger restaurant. We have eaten at the high tops, in the main dining room, and at the tables extending into The Harper lobby, and each area feels like part of the same unified experience. The colors and lighting inside are especially warm and inviting, giving the room a glow that feels cozy and uplifting, especially during a Philadelphia winter. Food remains at the center of the experience, and my order is always the Jerusalem bagel with egg and cheese. On the rare occasions when turkey bacon appears, I add it as a welcome delicacy and a little extra sustenance, though the bagel is already delicious on its own. The cinnamon sugar kubaneh, the chocolate chip cookie, and the Bloody Mary are excellent. K'Far has also expanded its selection of bowls and salads since we ate here most regularly, and they look consistent with the quality of everything else. These days, a full breakfast here does not always fit within our budget, but I still make a point of stopping in for OX Coffee, which is delicious and, happily, roasted in Philadelphia. The Yemenite latte is another distinctive pleasure, aromatic and satisfying without feeling like a novelty created merely for attention. The staff is consistently charming, welcoming, and composed, and the team's continuity and energy suggest that people genuinely enjoy working here. When our budget allows, I will absolutely return to eat. Perhaps the clearest expression of K'Far's brilliance arrives in one memory from a cold, radiantly sunny Saturday, when "Inspector Norse" by the Norwegian producer Todd Terje comes through the speakers as the restaurant buzzes around us. The track, the worldly crowd, and the aroma from the kitchen create the elusive feeling Steve Cook and Mike Solomonov understand so well: people go out to eat because they want to feel seen and be briefly transported into a more vivid version of life. I already love K'Far and The Hoxton as separate brands, so seeing them come together at The Hoxton in Williamsburg feels like an unusually natural and exciting partnership. Creating this kind of social magnetism inside a bakery and café is a subtle achievement, and Philadelphia is richer for having a place with this much flavor, warmth, and personality.
