My boyfriend is a big sauna fan and loves the Wellness Refinery so we made a plan to stop here for a 45 minute session as part of his birthday celebration. It's a great space and the staff here is incredible - friendly, helpful, and explained everything super clearly. The great: + Cute smoothie and juice bar for you to enjoy after your sauna session. + Convenient Old City location. + Sweet touches like writing names on a sign to welcome you, essential oil wipes, ample towels, etc. + The sauna itself is as good as it gets for this kind of experience. Super clean facility and they take a lot of pride in the space. The less great: + I would find it hard to justify the cost of membership with so many clubs around town offering saunas as part of their full gym experience. A 45 minute sessions for two was ~$119. + There was no working remote for us the day I was there to update the infrared lights. Not a huge deal but something that is a key part of the sauna experience not working might turn future customers off. + The plug in for your phone also was really spotty and the speakers kept going in and out. We ended up ditching it and going for silence instead. + Both the sauna space and space outside of the sauna is too small for two people. Overall if you're a sauna enthusiast with lots of discretionary income, OR you're just looking for a new way to escape the winter blues - this is a great option here in Philly. read more

Wow! So surprised I haven't reviewed Wellness Refinery on Yelp yet! I've been coming here for saunas for about a year now and I love it! I've convinced my husband, friends, and even some of my husbands friends to come. Every time I leave a sauna session I feel absolutely amazing, and it certainly helps to have a smoothie waiting for you when you're done! I usually do the 30 minute session and I bring the remote in to cycle through all of the infrared light colors. The smoothie options are soo good and I love that they offer seasonal blends too- always something new to try. read more

Sometimes you end up in places for interesting reasons. No matter where I go, I always love to find a wellness cafe that has juices and smoothies. Today was a 97 degree day in Philli, and I was sweating like a hog that just finished laying in the sun and I needed something to cool me down. I was greeted by a kind and welcoming staff, and I ordered the "Revitalize" smoothie!! This was recommended by the staff to help me recharge and to cool my body down as well. It did just that! I sat down and slurped my smoothie and relished in the delicious flavors and felt my body rebalancing and recharging with each and every sip! I was lucky enough to win an unlimited month at the Wellness Refinery from the Old City Festival (valued at $299). I was very intrigued as I've never been a frequent sauna-goer and I don't think I've ever been to an infrared sauna. I went twice and really enjoyed it, especially with the weather getting colder, but decided the continued membership isn't worth it for me since it's a bit far from where I live and for the price point I would rather drop in at a gym like the Bellevue which has a steam room and sauna as well as a pool and a full gym. I was able to reserve a session online for 2 people for 45 minutes (normally $109 for 2 people, $59 for 1). They also have the option of 30 minutes ($69 for 2, $39 for 1). The space is small but very calming, with a few seats downstairs. It wasn't too busy both times I went. There is a small cafe with some $9 smoothies and $6 lattes available and a shelf with some fancy creams and spritzes and tonics and all sorts of fancy stuff I don't know how to use on my face but probably should for sale. The saunas are upstairs- I think there are 2 or 3 (same size for 1 or 2 people, just less space). There is a small changing area with lots of towels and they give you a large jug of ice water, some individual towelettes to wipe the sweat from your body and face after (there are no showers, because they say you sweat for a while after the sauna so you should go home and then showed later). They even write your name on a little display thing which is very sweet and a nice touch. There is also a remote so you can play with different color lights (and a menu telling you which colors do what). You can also plug in your phone (iPhone adapter only) and play music in your sauna. The first time I did it I had to leave after 30 minutes because as Nelly said, it's getting hot in here, but the second time I got used to it and stayed the full 45. Every part of your body will be sweating more than you ever knew it could. The space is just small enough that you can't really lay down, unless you are in the fetal position, so its more of a sitting thing. Don't miss the fancy products in the bathroom after to wash up! They have an intro special of 2 30 minute sessions for $49 and different 5 pack, 10 pack, 4x a month, 8x a month and unlimited package. I think the prices are a bit high, but I'm also not a frequent sauna goer so this may be normal! Recommend checking it out if you are interested in trying a new way to relax. read more

I live right around the corner and was intrigued by the idea of a sauna. I'd been at spas before and enjoyed the experience but not an infrared version. I'm glad I finally gave it a try. I did the new client package (2-30 minute sessions at a discounted price) and I am now officially in LOVE with sauna. The 30 minutes is more than enough for me. It is HOT in there. When I emerge, it's like being reborn. The fresh air is incredible and I spend the rest of the day so relaxed that I'm practically floating. I can recommend this more highly. Fell in Love today! Hardly any businesses in Philly offering solo sauna services-so Im really happy to have found such a place. Located near 3rd and Market St, in the heart of Old City! After parking and walking a few blocks, I thought....why don't I come here more often? Great little shops and restaurants surrounding. The Wellness Refinery is simply beautiful!! It's tucked at the end of a cobblestone street. And walking in feels like you've discovered a secret oasis. Staff was super friendly, owner was awesome. And that sauna will have you drenched in 15 minutes (no joke). You'll find a clean/private room, water and towels. Plus a dock station inside the sauna (temp controlled), to listen to your music while you zen out! Highly recommend!! New clients get 2 sauna sessions for $49. My daughter is almost 7 months old and I first came into this place when she was about 2 months so this is long overdue. I cannot speak highly enough about The Wellness Refinery. Every visit I've had, and there have been many, the owner and staff here have been warm and engaging. The cafe alone was intriguing enough to get me to come in with a wide variety of delicious, on-trend beverages. If you're not sure of what's on the menu whomever is behind the counter breaks it down nicely for you. The selling point for me is the infrared sauna. I've gotten on my soapbox a few times to other clients (while waiting) about the wonderful benefits of infrared. Let me just say, I'm a mom of two little ones with very small windows of me time. Infrared saves my sanity and my immune system. The rooms upstairs with the saunas are always clean, they write cute little messages to you, there's an aux cord inside of each one so you can listen to whatever you choose (though their playlist is always bumpin jams), and cute little amenities to clean yourself up a little after you sweat. Like today, I just noticed they have some facial products in the bathroom. Very nice touch. They also have a wall of products for sale downstairs in the cafe area. The whole experience makes me feel luxurious without breaking the bank. Perfect for a ladies day, treat yourself day, pick me up day, coming back from illness day...the possibilities are endless. read more

I really enjoyed my 30 minute sauna session today. The entire inside is very cute and there is nothing like a good sweat. I think price wise it's more of a treat yourself type of service, but one that is well worth it. I feel super energized and refreshed hours after my appointment. This place is a complete sham! I signed up for 8 x per month package for $190 per month. They don't Have enough saunas to accommodate members. So I started to accumulate sessions that I couldn't use because of lack of availability. I had 13 sessions that were carrying over and before I would get charged another $190 for another 8 sessions I called to cancel the membership. When I did they canceled the 13 sessions I already paid for. It's a broken business model and they rip off their customers. Avoid this place at all cost! read more

I can't say enough great things about it from the benefits of an infrared sauna, the amazing staff, and how cute the decor is in the cafe (especially the healthy and delicious menu!) The Wellness Refinery is amazing and if I could give it 6 stars I would! The location and decor itself is so clean and charming, it really feels luxurious going there and is worth every penny. I really enjoyed having the saunas be in a private room where you can change and cool off in after the session (the pitcher of cold water included is so refreshing after!). I initially purchased the new client 2-pack 30 minute session special, and bought a 10-pack quickly after. The heat was a little overwhelming during my first visit, but the second time I was more prepared, could really relax, and wish I had booked a 45-minute session. I'm a former D1 athlete and continue to do high intensity workouts and deal with a LOT of aches and pains (especially chronic low back pain), and the only thing that has made me feel completely pain free was a 30 minute session in the infrared sauna. The owner was so personable, nice, and informative for my first visit and I immediately felt comfortable and at ease. I can't wait to go for my next visit and wish I could go every day! read more
