Was excited to see this open. They didn't change too much to the interior of the old Burger 21. It was a bit chaotic since there was only 1 queue for ordering takeout and for the hostess. I realize with a new place, there would be growing pains as they work out the kinks in staffing and production. Our server was very nice but that didn't make the overall experience any better. It took a very long time to get our food & then there were big gaps in between dishes. The cheesy fries was the first to come out. Cheese makes most things better especially fries but not in this case. The cheese was a powdered cheese & it was oddly sweet. The fries were then drizzled in some sort of chili sauce. Not a fan since the sweet savory cheese was somewhat off putting. The kimchi fried rice was just ok. It had chunks of chicken thigh(?), kimchi with a sunny side up egg. We had wanted the soy garlic flavor on the whole chicken & was told that we could only get that as wings or boneless. Don't you just toss the cooked chicken into the sauce??? That didn't make sense to us. We ordered the half chicken with secret sauce. The pieces were small, bony, heavily breaded & the flavor just wasn't there. It was like a very sweet honey gochujang. I am so excited there is a bb.q chicken in Cary! I called in to order since the online apps do not accept special requests. I wish there was a way to make modifications online but I can understand why they don't do this. I ordered the lunch special- with original chicken wings, fries, soda and a side of secret sauce. The sauce was an extra charge, they do give you a generous amount. The food was very nicely packaged, just like what you would see in S Korea! The chicken was hot, crunchy and juicy! I'm so excited that a bb.q Chicken opened near me! I first tried their Charlotte location and became immediately obsessed. Love the breading on Korean fried chicken - it's extra crispy, flaky, and the sauce flavors are just *chefs kiss*. Although the prices are definitely steep for fried chicken, I think the flavors make up for it. It's definitely a treat yourself meal instead of a daily meal in my opinion. The 8 piece is perfect to share with 2 people, with maybe another dish on the side, and it comes with a side of pickled radish. The only thing that's annoying is that you can't order two flavors with the 16 piece. If you want two flavors, you need to order two 8 pieces. It's only a $1 difference, so not really sure why it's limited like that. Fair warning, the wait is pretty long for food if dining in. I think it took about 30 minutes to get our chicken. Anybody who says otherwise is clearly trolling. The service is friendly and efficient. For those complaining about how long it takes - this is NOT KFC/Bojangles who spend next to no time making up the chicken. Batches of these are fried fresh (also notice their extensive menu - it is not possible to keep all of these styles ready-to-go) and take extra bits of attention and care to fry up in this style. If you can't wait the expected time for Korean-style chicken, go to KFC/bojangles for your instant hit of low-flavor, mediocre chicken. The first time I tried this place, they had just opened and their online order system was not in place which meant I had to order by phone. You can ONLY choose 2 sauce flavors for dipping. The whole chicken was cut up in a way that 4 pieces were basically bone. The secret sauce was very sticky sweet and made the chicken soggy. I actually love the korean fried chicken at this location. The chicken is cooked to order, fresh, consistently good, and great flavors. The restaurant is clean whenever I go. I have been going since they opened but have noticed a couple changes over time that I wanted to point out. The service has gotten worse or nonexistent since opening. The last couple of times, it took longer than usual for staff to come take our order even though it was not that busy. Food arrived before drinks/water. No refills and having to flag down staff for a refill. A couple previous visits, I was also caught offguard when it came time to pay because the staff presented me with a tablet during payment. It wasn't the tablet for payment but the fact that he held the tablet while waiting on me to enter the payment and tip amount. It felt intimidating or guilt tripped, lol. Also, if i remember, the highest amount % was also the first option. Usually, the lowest % amount is first so if you're not attentive, you may end up selecting the 20% or 22% since that was the first option vs the usual 15% or 18%. While that may be great for awesome service, but slow service, no refills, and no check-in, left a poor experience. It would be a 5 star review but deducted for the recent poor service and inconsistent payment experience. I would still return for the food, but probably do takeout to avoid the poor service and expected tip for that poor service. read more
