After 10+ years of going to JDs with friends and work colleagues and eating mostly the same thing, I give it a meh. I joined a friend (at my recommendation) on a Friday during the lunch hour. Amanda was friendly and prompt. Took our orders - I had the buffalo chicken salad with grilled chicken/dave's way. The salad came out with minimal chicken that looked like someone finely chopped the meat and drowned what little was there in sauce. After 5 or so minutes of trying to track our waitress down, I had to get the bar tender to help. I asked if this is usually what the serving of chicken is and she said unfortunately yes. I had just had the same thing a month ago.... She offered me more meat. I said yes and I should have realized it was for a fee. More drowned chicken came out at the same portion for $4.45. Amanda then disappeared for a long while, cleared one plate away after asking if we were done (didn't listen to the answer). I was also for some reason charged for Dave's sauce. Confused. Due to sports... I have been here quite often after the first visit. The vibe is great. The first time the bartenders were great however I had not seen the big screen. The sound is awesome. Fast forward, I've tried various seating spots. And also dishes. The chicken fingers, the Angus burger, the chimichurri steak sandwich, the parmesan crusted chicken Caesar sandwich up to now. But my favorite, is the burger! Very well seasoned and cooked appropriately. The ambiance is fantastic. Many know each other but even if not, the servers do a awesome job at making you feel welcomed. Jescel is the best! Very knowledgeable about offerings and overall excellent customer experience. The layout allows for small/ large groups inside and there is an outdoor seating area. Another week, another lunch catch-up with a friend -- this time at JD's Tavern. Full disclosure: this wasn't my first visit, but it had been a few years. Honestly, not sure why -- the place is welcoming, the vibe is relaxed, and the staff is super friendly. I went with the Al Pastor Tacos, which were the day's special, and my friend opted for the classic grilled cheese with fries. Don't judge her -- sometimes you just need something fun, simple, and comforting, especially on a rainy day. The tacos were a solid win -- well-seasoned with a nice little kick. I asked for a side of guacamole, and not only was it tasty, but there was no upcharge, which was a pleasant surprise. My friend's grilled cheese looked delicious -- if it were mine, I'd have added a tomato slice in the middle (I know, controversial, but trust me -- try it). My favorite weekday lunch spot! Lunch menu is the best deal in town, with lots of great choices under $10. Today's special was Buffalo chicken wrap with fries for $8.95 - that's cheaper than some fast food places and it's way better. I've enjoyed everything I've had from the lunch menu. My personal favorite is the lunch southwest chicken salad - it's amazing! If you're a beer person, they always have a $5 flight of rotating craft drafts, which is a steal! The crowd is very random and you'll always find someone engaging, some people you'd rather chat with and some not so much. They have bar seats and booths. Grabbed lunch from here recently and was pretty impressed with everything! I managed to park right out front, and there were plenty of other open spots nearby. When I walked in, no one was present to greet me, but eventually someone wandered over and told me I could sit wherever I wanted. My server did an excellent job at being present without being overbearing. I ended up ordering the chicken pita, which was pretty reasonably priced. The food was prepared quickly and was tasty! I met a friend here for dinner. The location has a very casual vibe that reminds me of place to watch Sunday football. This place may be on my list during football season to watch the Philadelphia Eagles play. The location has a bar, booths and high top tables. The menu has an array of options to choose from. We ordered the fried pickles, sliders, wings and tots. I enjoyed everything but the sliders. They weren't cooked to my liking nor was I asked how I would like them cooked. Today each ordered a meal with no duplicates except for the brussels sprouts side. Everyone enjoyed their order, no complaints. A couple of us can be really critical but everyone was pleased. JD's is a local bar and restaurant in Apex. It has a strong reputation amongst locals, but depends on the vibe you're going for. The food is decent, had a wrap and wings. I will say the wings were the best part. We got fried and grilled wings and I was more drawn to the fried wings. Some of our wings were burned vs having some char on them. Things happen, but they were not really edible. The service was just okay. I also felt the place could use a deep cleaning. We sat in a booth and there were crumbs in crevices in the table and seat that have been there awhile. Overall, if you want a dive bar with a respectable food menu, give it a try. read more

The staff is nice and you get seated quickly. The ambiance is that of your typical sports bar with several sports nuts lingering amongst the old wooden tapa. The food is good, so why the 4 stars you ask? Portion size. If you want to be full then you need to order 2-3 things, which can get costly at $9 per chicken sandwich. All I wanted was a burger with no mayonnaise and to get my order in at a timely fashion. I didn't get either. So, why don't they get one star? Because. Lately, I've been attracting slow service, and just by writing this means I'll get more. Today didn't surprise me. She gave me the menu and disappeared for 12 minutes when I was only one of 2 people at tables. Then, I got my burger with mayonnaise on it. I didn't feel like waiting more, so I used a napkin to wipe off what I could and kept it moving. It was freakin' delicious. Man. What a great burger. The onions, the taste of the meat and the ketchup drowned away whatever blech left over from the mayo just well enough for me to thoroughly enjoy the meal. Granted, it did hurt to see all the nutrition from the Brussel sprouts be completely wiped out from all the charring. But if you went to a tavern and ordered a burger, you weren't out to be healthy to begin with, so whatever. They were crispy and ridiculous good. The whole place was far more popular with drinkers than eaters, but the server was still cheery, so I wanted to tip her. She apologized for the mayo and said the meal was on the house. Holy cow, that's good business. Much appreciated! Still...I don't carry cash, and fully expected to tip via card. Sitting in JD's I was taken in by the relaxed atmosphere and eventually the warm service and food. Focus on eventually. I know with the pandemic service is slower, so I definitely gave my server and food more time to come out. I was warmly greeted and decided on their house old fashioned and ten of their grilled with bone wings. I decided to get their sweet Asian and Garlic Parmesian on the side. I am so glad that I did as their grilled wings were fine just by themselves. The ranch and blue cheese helped the flavor a bit, but the other sauces were just not doing it for me. I waited about 30 minutes for the wings and my waitress checked on me once to bring me a water and then again for the check. Would I go back, maybe for their nachos that looked delicious and definitely for their old fashioned that had just the right amount of sweet. The wings were just "okay" in my book. read more

Having lunch with a friend who is allergic to gluten and we were both craving burgers. She's eaten here several times and suggested JD's. After reviewing the menu options I decided on the brisket and pimento cheese sandwich. Everything but the bun was made in house. Great sandwich. Only complaint is the pimento cheese was so sparse I couldn't really taste it. Swap the portions on the slaw and pimento cheese and this sandwich is a clear winner. The crispy brussel sprouts were amazing. I'd come back to JD's just for that. Looking forward to trying in the future. Oh, it was NFL game day. We arrived before the games started with no wait. Feels like a "locals place" when you first walk in, but everyone is always super friendly and immediately treats you like a regular. Wait staff are pleasant and attentive, and food comes out quickly, even when the place is hopping. Different weeknights they have music bingo, trivia nights, etc., which are always fun. It's becoming my go-to spot for a quick fun dinner. The guacamole chicken club sandwich is my personal favorites, but the kids also love the philly cheesesteak, mucho nachos, & burgers. read more
