Bayou Bites' Shrimp Po-Boy. Nicely prepared. Not too much lettuce.

As a native of Acadiana and resident of Storey. County, I had a few hours to kill today and drove to Fallon to try out Bayou Bites. The service was quick, and the shrimp po-boy was really delicious. The remoulade sauce was pretty good, and the shrimp themselves were good sized, fresh, and breaded/fried up just right. Kudos to the young woman who took my order! Bayou Bites is located in the Grid building, with ample seating shared among other food stalls. If you want a fountain drink, a separate purchase from another merchant in the shared space is necessary.

    Poutine

WOW ... came out from Carson City NV to eat at Bayou Bites, which is located INSIDE THE GRID MARKET ... Was well worth the drive ... I had the Poutine, (which is fries, cheese curds, andoull sausage gravy), also had side of fried green tomatoes AND last but not least, lemon beignets!!! Totally delicious .. I highly recommend trying them out ... I will be back

    Fried green tomato basket

The fried green tomato basket was delicious. Fries were perfect. I was ready before I could finish a few games of pinball. I love quick service.

    Poutine!

We were just exhausted from our early flight into Reno, then the drive to our hotel (Station House…read moreInn- literally next door). We arrived more than four hours til check in & didn't have the energy to drive anywhere else for a bite. With the close proximity to our hotel- Toulouse was a life saver. We didn't have the chance to check out the menu before heading this way- but, there will be something for everyone. Notated on Google Maps as a California Restaurant- but, the ode to New Orleans flavor is what grabbed my attention. This is the first trip we didn't bring long sleeved shirts or hoodies. It was super brisk & windy when we got to Toulouse. Tons of outdoor seating, but no heaters available. We opted for the cushioned booths. It was 11:45am and we were handed the breakfast menu. We weren't interested in the breakfast menu & asked if we could wait til noon, when the lunch menu is served. Our server was fine with it and let us look at the lunch menu while enjoying our beverages til it was time. I love me a good bowl of gumbo (cup is available as well). I saw duck confit was included in the gumbo- and I love duck!! I opted for shrimp to be added. THIS is the best gumbo I've had, outside of New Orleans! I hate when you go places and the gumbo stock is more like clear broth! Ugh!! At Toulouse- you get that thick roux, which truly gives it depth. I didn't realize the amount of heat each bite had! My gosh! My nose paid the price! LOL. I should've asked for a side of rice! The blackened shrimp was plump. The rice portion didn't take away from the holy trinity, duck confit, & sliced andouille sausage. I TRULY recommend if you visit here- get some gumbo! I made sure I had enough room for that banana bread pudding! The whiskey sauce was piping hot- but, pooled each spoonful of bread pudding.

The gumbo was full of crab, the consistency was perfectly balanced between thin and thick, the flavor was simply delicious. Oh, and the catfish I could seriously eat every day! It was light, perfectly coated, not oily and perfectly meaty. Eating at M&M's was a nice experience and the owners seem to be very nice and genuine people. I look forward to another visit.

On this trip, they offered the Crawfish Etouffee as a special, coming highly recommended from all the staff, so I had to try it. The soup had a very thick, creamy texture, rich with flavor. The bits of crawfish were complemented with some grilled shrimp. All served with a dollop of rice. Delicious. My wife had the Fried Chicken Platter. The skin was crisp and full of flavor. I don't know what seasonings they put on the chicken but it was absolutely delicious. Now a risk with any fried chicken is over-cooking the chicken at the cost of getting the skin crispy. This was the case with our dish. While the outside was absolutely amazing, the chicken itself was a bit over cooked. What a shame. We ordered the Chicken Platter with a side of Red Beans and Rice. This was straight from the Bayou. Simple, delicious and perfect. Just wish I had a bigger serving. We also sampled the corn bread. While this too was quite good, the texture was bit to cake like to my liking. Not in a bad way, just different to what I would have preferred. If you are looking for authentic Southern Comfort Food, M&M's is the place for you. Even though our Chicken was a bit over cooked, we are excited to try other dishes on the menu.
