I called in advance asking for a quote and was quoted $80-120 depending on the lock. Thereafter, the technician said he will be there in 30 minutes and when he wasn't there I had to be the one to reach out and called 20 minutes after the fact to see where they were and they said they were five minutes away. Then, at the five minute mark they called me again saying they took a wrong turn and would be at my location in seven minutes which then turned to ten. I waited over an hour and once the technician finally got the lock off he said it would be $120. Then when i handed him the cash he said it was also $29 for the service fee and I said you didn't tell me this, you quoted $80-$120 which I gave you and he practically harassed me for the $29 service fee but honestly it was him just swindling me and he got his instant karma because he couldn't get the lock off his drill, or got stuck! I'm not sure how to review these folks. My locks work and the process was a bit odd but I'm really mad because they charged me more than double the quoted price. That's $200 instead of $94. And hmm, I could swear that there were negative reviews of them before (that seem to have mysteriously disappeared). There sure are a lot of questionable good reviews, though, and that should tell you something. I called for a quote and was kinda hustled into an appointment. I know, I know... but the quote was in line with what the handyman said the job would cost so ok, fine. On Friday morning, the first employee took the locks apart, realized he didn't have the part to finish the job and put the locks back together. He said that this part normally would cost $30 more but that he would do it for the quoted price on Monday. Ok, that happens. But when I went to leave, the handle fell apart in my hands. Many, many hours later, they sent another employee to fix the handle who was actually able to do the job that the first guy couldn't. Great, right? Problem is, I was charged more than twice the quoted price and was told I should take it up with the office but that I had to pay it. I said that HE should call the office (surely he had some way to reach them, even at 10:00pm on a Friday--and yes, I had been stuck at home all day) but he refused. I pointed out that the first guy hadn't mentioned anything more than a potential $30 difference. Nope, I had to cough up the $200. (Or, rather, my boyfriend did, just to get the guy to leave.) So I contacted the office and couldn't get any phone call or email back. I wasn't nearly as adamant as I could have been (I felt uncomfortable getting aggressive with a pushy, sketchy locksmith company that knows where I live.) but I definitely made my problems known and they chose to ignore me. After shoveling mountains of snow this past week I went to get in my car so I can reward myself with a beer at the nearest pub. When I went to turn the key it wasn't turning. So the next day I called my dealer and they quoted me 700 bucks to fix the ignition which is absolutely ridiculous. So I surfed around on the net to find a better quote and I found Bay State Locksmith. They where very nice on the phone and understood my difficulties and was able to fix my car for $350 instead. I thought the service and goods were good. $3.50 a big/special key plus $40 for a 2-key lockbox. Waited over an hr and I called the dispatcher twice and he said the locksmith was on his way but still no contact from the expected locksmith. I recommend you hire another locksmith who is more responsive and is professional enough to call the customer and let them know your eta because it's not a way to do good business. This company seems to take advantage of people in rather desperate situations (which I imagine to be their main customer base). I had lost my car keys, and called to ask if I could have a new one made that night (I needed my car for work the next morning). Since my car uses a transponder key, they wouldn't be able to get it to me until the next day. I still had to get some supplies for my car, so I had one of their employees unlock my door for me. I did not ask for a quote, and when he arrived a few hours later, he informed me that it was going to cost me $175, cash only. I would have asked him to turn around and called somebody else, but $60 of the cost was for "emergency response" (which I did not ask for), which I would have to pay either way. I scheduled to have my key dropped off at 5 the next day, and they said that would be fine. The next day: I call around 5, and am informed that I was going to have to pick the key up in Brighton; for whatever reason they would not be able to drop it off to me. Did they forget that I did not have access to my car?? We set up a compromise: I would meet the manager halfway an hour later at a T stop. I was not completely surprised when, at 6, I was waiting at the stop and got a call from the manager, he was not going to make it and I would have to get to a different stop. I finally meet up with him and he charges me the full cost for the key (which also seemed quite steep). In essence, this company is unorganized, unethical, and are really not thinking about the customer's well being. I would not recommend. read more

STRONGLY recommend you AVOID Bay State Locksmith. Several years ago (I was living in Belmont, MA at the time) they "repaired" a lock on my vehicle. The driver's side door lock was sticking and often couldn't be opened (key could be inserted, but lock wouldn't turn). Their work order states "remove and replace driver door lock", and "new part". $300 later, the lock worked. Just recently, the lock started sticking again. I was HORRIFIED to learn that the repair completed by Bay State Locksmith several years ago was not a replacement of the lock, but rather they removed 6 of the 7 tumblers inside the old lock (presumably, those tumblers that were sticking/damaged), and re-installed the lock with just one tumbler. So while it "worked", the lock was in a severely compromised state, making it very easy to break into. It also appears that no new parts were used, but rather the old inner cylinder (again, with just one tumbler!) was reinstalled. I use the vehicle everyday, and have trusted that the lock was properly repaired. It very clearly was NOT REPAIRED properly. Bottom line for anyone considering Bay State Locksmith: STAY AWAY.
