STAY FAR AWAY!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Heavily padded bills, attempted to double charge me for parts already purchased, excessive 50% markup on parts, attempted to charge me for expensive repairs that were not needed, attempted to charge me for parts that were not used. After written estimate, deposit, and completion of work Mike Bauer added $800 in labor to my final invoice w/o approval nor a valid reason. Ultimately tried to explain the $800 charge as for 'extra test drives' to check for issues with the same $2,800 repair I declined because it was not needed. Bauer was extremely rude, demeaning, and angry bc he was called out for these multiple attempts at padding my invoice. He got away with the bulk of it by refusing to allow me to pay what was agreed and wouldn't return my vehicle though i'd driven 4 hours to pick it up on Christmas Eve. YOU are much better off taking your equipment to the dealer for repairs. read more

A part failed that was installed by Bauer in November. The answer was that I had to bring my car back to them and have them remove the part and send out to supplier for a warranty claim. Meanwhile I would have no car for who knows how long, only adding insult to injury, Bauer stated they would then have to charge me $169 per hour labor for putting a part back that was only installed three months ago. Basically, I initially went in for one problem that Honda diagnosed, spent a few thousand dollars on other recommendations only to have the same problem diagnosed again by Honda, and now a bad part in another area that I need to pay labor for. All in all, I totally regret my decision to have paid $500 for a total car look over as suggested by Bauer. I then had multiple items fixed per their recommendation, only to have more problems in a very short time. Lily is most helpful but overall this facility totally failed me. Beware. There is warranty on parts but you sign a contract saying that labor is not included if a part fails. To me, this seems very unreasonable for only having the part for three months. Sometimes you can accommodate a customer who did everything suggested to them by Bauer. read more

Brought my car in for a diagnosis of a noise in the front end. The mechanics identified it quickly. I received a quote and immediately set up the date for repair. I had to change the date of service several times and the shop was very accommodating. I brought my car in on the date we set up, the car was repaired while I waited. Have had a series of great experiences with Bauer. This past week, dropped my car late Sunday night hoping they could take care of a flat tire the next day. Called Monday morning and they said no problem - best news was that after they checked out the tire they told me there was no issue. Stereotypes of mechanics are they upsell and create problems to fix - but Bauer was 100% the opposite. They even took the wheel off to check for leaks, found nothing, filled my tire and sent me on my way with no charge. Class (and honest) acts! read more

I've used Bauer Auto for all my vehicles for the last ten years, and they NEVER disappoint. Henry, mechanic extraordinaire, is incredibly skilled and patient. Mike Bauer takes his time to explain any issues and how they expect to resolve them, speaking realistically and in words the layperson can understand. In the office, Alicia is the best, kind and easy to get ahold of and work with. They follow up after the repair too! I've never been more pleased with an automotive repair facility. I once had my wife's car towed when it quit on us several towns away. They showed up quickly, got it on the flatbed handily, and treated us with kindness and respect. Above and beyond service here every single time. My company has been using Bauer exclusively for years--and for good reason! Today I dropped off my sprinter van for servicing and asked for directions to the train station as I was leaving. The owner and his very polite and professional daughter Lily offered to drive me to the station! They insisted it was too hot out and so the lovely Lily took me right to the train station and made sure I knew where I was going before she left. The Bauer automotive building may be large and impressive looking but make no mistake this is a family business ran by people who see you as a person! They really care and it shows. 5 stars. Came in and got a hitch installed on my car and also installed a bike rack right out of the box as well... To recap, I called ahead, made an appointment, and had all parts (bike rack was purchased separately), and I was ready to go. The team went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable with all the work (and Cost) prior to starting. The job was done right on front me, so I can see everything that was done. I loved the transparency.. In the end, the hitch looks as if it was factory installed. It was a great (amazing) job, and I'm very excited for it, and to start using the bike rack... While I waited, I was given the Wi-Fi password and offered refreshments. Great hospitality! Upon completion, the mechanic walked me through everything that was done and showed me how the hitch and bike rack work. I couldn't of asked for a better experience. Will be back again! ---- Updating review.. I went back again for new tires and a 115k service. Was just as satisfied! Everything was thorough and well done! After a shockingly high and confusing repair estimate from my dealership i decided to go local so i called Bauer Automotive in Chatham. I was initially told by the dealership that I needed a breather cover reseal so i did an internet search and came up with nothing. Bauer diagnosed it as a valve cover gasket- so that's what they meant-Huh! Why not just say that? I guess because they couldn't overcharge for the repair. At that moment i decided to switch repair shops and went with Bauer since they were upfront and honest and gave me great pricing (much better than the dealership). The day of the repair i got a guaranteed estimate in writing and they drove me home and picked me up after the work was done (i live in the neighborhood. Not only that, they encouraged me to first call the dealer and see if the oil change is part of my lease deal before I come to them. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. Fantastic! Just call them miracle workers. I came here before my lease was up to "freshen" up my car (full disclosure: it was scratch city). I was concerned I woukd get nickele and dimes from the dealer so as a last ditch effort I got the car detailed... Why have i never done this before? For $200 they made this care look FOINE. I almost wanted to keep it a bit longer to at least benefit from this new looker. They are a friendly, patient crew who put pride in their work. I can imagine that they get cars WAY nicer than mine to detail and fix.... but it meant a lot that they wanted to still pit in the same level of effort for me. I would absolutely get a car detailed here again, they have other services too (theyre a repair shop) which I think are also worth checking out. read more

Nick was fantastic. I showed interest in one of his used cars that he was selling and he immediately responded. He even ran around the day prior to me meeting him to make sure the cars title was up to date. I had to drive about an hour away to get to him, but it was absolutely worth it. Nick left the car on the lift specifically so I could take a look under the car and he gladly popped the hood. He was very courteous and understanding. He disclosed anything and everything - I didn't have to question his honesty at all. He is very upfront. He allowed for me to take a test drive around the area and during the test drive he explained all of the details of the car - he also disclosed all of the improvements he had done to the car in the last month to get it ready to be sold. He provided a list as well and documentation as proof. I accepted the offer and Nick was patient enough to wait for me to go and grab a check from the bank. When I came back we had a brief talk about how to transfer the car, get a new registration and plates. This was the smoothest experience I have ever had when it comes to buying a car. These guys went the extra mile, and they really earned my trust! I went in just because I had a flat tire. But the mechanic found a nail, removed it, patched the tire (not plugged), re-balanced the tire, found another nail in another tire, patched that one, and then used force-matching to fix a wobble that I'd been living with for a year because I'd taken the car to two other shops who had failed to fix it! I go to auto shops full of cynicism, expecting that everyone is just out to rip me off. But he was thorough and transparent and honest. He really seemed to enjoy the process of diagnosing a problem and not giving up until it was fixed perfectly. He's a real craftsman who clearly takes pride in his work. I have a 2000 Toyota Camry with 170,000 miles on it. I can't afford a new car AND I have a new baby so I need to make this one last, and safely. On recommendation from a friend I took it to Nick at Bauer Auto for an oil change, to check out a leak and to just check it out overall for any urgent issues. The leak turned out to be my exhaust system, which I had replaced right away because that could have caused carbon monoxide to get in the car. He also noticed my A/C wasn't that cold, and it's been brutally hot outside so he serviced that. He recommended some other repairs that could wait for now. I appreciated how he broke down what I needed to fix now versus what could wait a while, to make it more affordable. As a woman usually when I've gone to a mechanic I feel like they treat me like an idiot - Nick was super nice, approachable and respectful. He was really thorough, listened to what I asked for and explained everything well. Also, there's a really nice deli next door and a Bottle King up the block if you need to grab a sandwich or a bottle of wine. No complaints whatsoever so I'll keep going here for my car stuff. A good samaritan, helping us in our moment of need! Imagine this...late Friday afternoon, the office door is half-closed, and the team is literally about to go home when we walked in. My sister's car battery died after a winter of storage and we needed to urgently charge her battery. Nick could have turned us away. Committed to helping his neighbors, he instead offered to lend us his car battery charger on the spot. Without even asking our names, he gave us the charger, explained how it worked, and asked that we bring it back when we were done. Great place! I went in for an oil change and a checkup. Also got my window wipers replaced. It was very clean and everyone was very friendly. It's a pretty fun laid back environment. I would recommend this place to anyone who would prefer their car or truck to be in the hands of someone who just shook your hand 5 minutes ago rather than some random person who got handed a paper with a task and for all you know has no clue what they are doing. I drove 20 miles out of my way to visit these guys because of a positive review here on Yelp. I had just bought a new car and was nervous about installing an aftermarket hitch receiver. I am glad I took the gamble with Nick and his comrades because they delivered on all cylinders in terms of their outstanding customer service, care and attention to your car and, most importantly, highly competent workmanship. First of all, it is worth mentioning that this mechanics garage is by the far the cleanest, most organized working garage I have ever encountered. Why does this matter? These guys care about their business and their tools and this in turn explains why their work is of such high quality. Installing a hitch is no doubt a straightforward operation but they went above and beyond the call of duty by custom fitting the molded plastic sections that protect the underside of the car after they made sure that the hitch was properly installed. Frankly, they could have taken the path of least resistance without notice but instead went for a professional result. If you live in North Jersey, plug them into your GPS and make the special trip.
