Get a second opinion on upsell attempts!!!!!! I went back in May of for an oil change and was told by the service manager that my brake pads and rotors needed to be replaced - even though my car had just over 30k miles on it. He said that the pads were worn to the screws and were digging into the rotors and that it was a real safety issue. As I drive mostly on the highway, this didn't make sense to me - so I didn't get it done. Three months later, I had to get a new tire (went to a different shop - not Midas) and asked them to check all the brakes ---- they said they were fine. Then this week, I had to take the car to the dealer for a software update - and they also inspected the brakes and said they were fine (added a pic of the evaluation from their report). So either they don't know how to diagnose brake issues - or (at least in this instance) they mislead customers in order to upsell unnecessary services. I would recommend getting a second opinion on any "strongly suggested" additional service recommendations. read more

Been going here for 10 years and the managers were courteous and stood by their work. Recently went back because I just had them install new rotors and brake pads 1.5 years ago. The discs were corroded with rust causing a severe wobble under braking. Mechanic and then said manager said they can replace under warranty but I have to pay labor. They suggested I drive some more to see if I brake more, the rust may come off. The problem persisted and I went back. The new manager, John, told me the discs are warped and the pads needed to be replaced, ~$300+. Only the pads are covered by the warranty?? They told me "all disc brakes rust if they sit too long"... I have no confidence in the new manager. He doesn't know anything about cars. He also proceeded to tell me what race car drivers do to their brakes after racing...wtf. read more

I went in for a minor service. Should have taken a few minutes. Half an hour later they told me it was something else. I asked them to tell me if the problem was something other than what I had expected before they started, but they went ahead and began the work anyway. Were they telling the truth? I don't know, but I would have at least waited because I missed all of my appointments due to the car being on the lift for over two hours. They kept saying "I know I know, I have a lot of cars that need to get done". I wanted to express my resentment, but I didn't want them to mess around with the vehicle out of spite. SCAM ARTISTS CAUGHT IN A LIE! Avoid this place. They're just taking advantage of people. I went for a battery/alternator diagnostic test (Cost paid = $35.18). Almost an hour later, they declared that my alternator was "shot" and my serpentine belt and battery needed to be replaced! I took the copy of those results and the quote to replace said parts (Cost quoted = $1,612.61!!!!), and proceeded to have the same parts tested at Advance Auto and Firestone - results of both places showed the battery and alternator were fine and there was no need to replace them. PS - No charge from either of those locations to look at the car and test the parts. read more

Buyer beware. I went to Midas because they offered a $50 off discount for brake pad replacement. My brakes are fine (only 30k miles) but thought this was a great deal so went ahead and scheduled appointment. Despite my better understanding, manager recommended an entire brake job (new rotors, pads,and line flush) that would have cost 4 times a pad replacement! Told him your a liar and should be ashamed of yourself. Then went back to Madison Tire who has worked on my car where he confirmed brakes are in good shape but happy to replace the 'pads only' as you will need it done in about 500 miles. I saved over $700. Don't go to Midas ever!!! read more

It's NEVER fun dealing with car troubles, NEVER, but from the phone call I made of "when am I come in?", to the service, to the short wait time, to the affordability, I have to say, it was actually a great experience. My SUV was making a lot of noise so I took it to Midas in Summit for a checkup as they were a local chain. They told me I needed a new exhaust system including a new catalytic converter, muffler and pipes to the tune of almost $1,900.00. I decided to take it to my regular mechanic in Westfield and he welded in a new piece of pipe for $180.00 total. Said the muffler and catalytic converter were in good shape. My car now purrs like a kitten. Midas in Summit are total ripoff artists and should be ashamed of themselves. Don't ever go there. I don't know how they sleep at night. TIRES : Then they call me to tell me that tires have to be changed even if th threads are all good. I tell that I just want a tire rotation because I know that my tires are still good. When I picked up my car, NO tire rotation. I was told that they didn't want to rotate for security reason... INSPECTION : If inspection was done properly, they should AT LEAST have seen that air filter has to be changed, that battery is not good after a long winter. He recommended that I go to this Midas, as he couldn't get to it for 2days. I had visions of replacing the entire exhaust system for hundreds of bucks. Not so. Made an appointment on Friday for an oil change at 1 PM Monday because I had to go to work at 3 PM. Showed up at 12:45 PM on Monday, got checked in, and was told the oil change would take about an hour. Found at at 2 PM that they hadn't even brought my car into the garage - again, for a 1 PM appointment made days in advance - so I left then and there. Absolute waste of time. read more

They reattached this heat shield by adding some larger washers, for an unbelievable low cost, and wished us a Happy New Year! What an expected gift! I sent my inexperienced daughter to this Midas for an oil change using a coupon for a $19.99 and she came home having paid nearly $34.00. The service manager Chris was rude and unaccomodating. First, I made a scheduled appointment and she showed up on time, only to be told they were too busy and we should come back in an hour. Chris didnt seem too apologetic or concerned and offered no accomodation for the inconvenience. Second, we were charged more for extra oil. My subaru takes 6.9 quarts so they charged us for two extra quarts. The problem was they charged $5.23 per quart for the two extra quarts which was 75% more for than for the first 5 quarts at $2.99, claiming the first 5 quarts were a promotional price. When I called Chris to complain he told me - too bad, don't come back if I dont like it. Be aware the coupon at Midas is a classic bait and switch. While charging more for the quarts over 5 is a usual practice at other places, charging a higher price for the extra oil is not what other oil change places do. On top of all that, Chris threatened me if I wrote a review and went to corporate to complain. With all the coupons for oil changes, I strongly recommend you find another chain to patronize where they are more, friendly, appreciative of your business, accomodating and dont play pricing games to jack up the cost. read more

This was my second time coming here and have had positive experiences both times. My go-to shop closed down and I have been looking for an honest shop for a while. I think I found my new shop. Months ago I bent a wheel hitting a pothole, so I purchased a new wheel with tires and took the car to pep boys. Four hours later I get the car back and something still didn't feel right. They told me the tires had flat spotted so I need new rear tires as well. I bought new rear tires and brought it to these guys at Midas. They took the time to take the tires off both front tires and the wheel that pep boys left in my trunk and figured out the bad wheel was still left on the car and the wheel in the trunk was a good one. They did this in front of me. Total time of service was about an hour and a half, done in front of me, with excellent communication. Mike the technician was also able to salvage the tpms, saving me a bit of money there. I would definitely give these guys a try. read more

Wow - Sirina is awesome!! I have a 2012 Volvo and my headlight was out. I am terrible with cars and the Volvo headlight replacement process is a bit more complicated than changing a light bulb in my house. I pulled in to MIDAS on my way to the Volvo dealer down the street to see if they might be able to do it for less money. Sirina replaced both of my bulbs on the spot (I had purchased the bulbs a week prior at an auto shop) and she refused to accept any payment for the work. I rarely review stuff on the internet but quality, generous service deserves a mention. read more

The workers at this particular Midas seem pretty honest and do a good job at what they are supposed to do: change your oil & check for problems. They never "found" any major problems, but did once suggest a tune-up, which my car did actually need. read more

NOT ANYMORE I had moved to the area in 2013 and had used Midas for all my oil changes, About 1 year ago I experienced an awkward situation with the man behind the counter and I didn't feel comfortable returning to them. I had to have the subsequent oil change done elsewhere and actually found the service better and for the first time in 2 years my steering wheel didn't shake after a tire rotation, wheel balance etc. Two nights ago I was pulled over for car lights that were dead and when a woman answered the phone yesterday at Midas, I felt comfortable to make the appointment to have them replace the bulbs and do an oil change at the same time. This time I said that no tire rotation was necessary. They seemed to have a problem knowing how to exchange the bulbs and I was asked to wait a little longer while they were checking all the fuses. I had arrived at 11:45 and by 2pm I had to insist that I leave to get ready for work. I understand that it is difficult to know how to exchange bulbs in every make of car, so it was not such a big problem for me that they could not replace the rear parking lights and license plate lights. What did annoy me later that evening was when the internal console lights were not working anymore since my visit to their garage. I called today to inform them of this. A different woman from yesterday spoke to me but I don't think that she was trained to satisfactory address a client dissatisfaction situation. She did ask if I wanted to bring the car in to see where the problem was. I honestly don't have confidence in the workers there and declined to bring my car back. I had been a customer at the Summit Midas for almost 20 years. June 25, 2018 is the last time I will ever step foot in this establishment. For many years I dealt with the manager Mateo until he left this location. I then dealt with a woman(do not recall her name but she was from Westfield).I would faithfully get the oil changed in our cars, kept up with filters, etc., and had to purchase tires and occasionally brakes although we did not put alot of mileage on our cars. Fast forward to the last 10 months.. different managers each visit and always shorthanded with mechanics. Sept 2017 I was told i must get new tires as they were apparently in bad condition. I was going to be making a 4 hr drive by myself so I did not want to take a risk so new tires were put on. June 25, 2018 I go for an oil change and I'm told my brakes are in terrible condition. With another long drive ahead of me I decided to replace the back brakes with the intention of replacing the front ones at the end of the summer. On August 30 I happened to see a coupon for another company and decided to take advantage of it. They performed a courtesy brake inspection and to my surprise, determined that my brakes are no where near needing replacement. I asked them to double check because Midas had told me I was taking a chance waiting. Nope, they patiently explained definitely not necessary Now I will never know if my tires and back brakes really needed to be replaced. Absolutely terrible experience. Couldn't have been ruder or less helpful if they tried. Attempted on numerous occasions to lie to me about my car, including "you have run flat tires" (nope, they're just plain old regular tires), "you need a special key to get your lugs nuts off" (no, you're just apparently unfamiliar with your own tools because they are no locks), "your tires are SUV tires - see they are 17 inch!" (ummm, it's a two door coupe, and they make passenger tires in 17" size too) to the biggest ripoff which was "oh we can't accept a tire repair coupon on your car, it's a Mercedes!" - like somehow my car has magic wheels and tires. Just incredibly frustrating to be lied to when I have far too much automotive knowledge to be tricked.
