I live down the road from this shop so I already knew it existed. A few years ago my father bought a new car and handed down his BMW X3 to me. Went to the dealership (the one next town over) for a simple oil change. Within an hour I get text with a video from the dealership recommending $7000 worth of work. I of course declined and told them to just finish the oil change but when I picked up the car, you bet I drove straight to Montclair Motorwerks from there. Ken and his team took a look at the vehicle and while some of the repairs recommended by the dealership were legitimate, others weren't really needed. The honesty was refreshing. Turned out the vehicle did need some extensive work (thanks Dad). The car was ready within a few days and the price (which was still in the four figures to reflect the scope of the work done) was a fraction of what the dealership would have charged. Additionally I was very careless in leaving something extremely valuable in the vehicle. One of the technicians found it and turned it over to Frankie for safe keeping. Anybody with questionable morals could have taken it and I wouldn't have known. When I picked up the car, it was there for me and while I was of course embarrassed, I was grateful. I'm under no impression that BMWs are cheap vehicles to own and maintain. They aren't. But the high degree of trust I gained from my first encounter with Ken, Frankie an their team made Montclair Motorwerks my go-to since then. read more

I'm tired of going to BMW dealers where the "technicians" are just not up to speed with the cars they repair. Brought my x3 in for regular maintenance and some other work. At least 25-30% less expensive and 100% more knowledgeable. Same day service. I'm a new loyal customer... I guess i never posted the above post about 10 months ago... Ken knows his stuff. My regular mechanic (who is GREAT) told me it was out of his scope and I would be better served taking it to the dealership. After a google search I discovered Montclair Motowerks. They specialize in European autos and they did not disappoint. Ken located and fixed my issue (which my mechanic said was going to be a nightmare) within a few days and always kept me abreast of what was going on. I've had quite a bit of work done here on my truck over the years. Oil changes, brakes, tires, belts, pulleys, water pump. Never a problem, always quick and priced right. I've shopped around for things like a full brake job and they are the same or a little less for the same work as other service stations in my area. I brought my 2001 Lexus RX300 in because it was leaking oil following a bad oil change from Sears Auto in Newport Mall - Jersey City. After a few weeks, I started to hear horrible clunky noises coming from the engine. I am by no means a car expert so I was convinced that this was the end of one of the longest relationships I had in my entire life. 10.5 years since I first got my license. 10.5 years ago was the budding of a new, beautiful relationship. 10.5 years down the line brings us to today - one of the worst and best days of my life. The worst, because I thought my 10.5 year relationship with my car had ended a few hours ago. The best, because just a few moments ago - I was told by the people of Montclair Motorwerks that my 10.5 year long relationship was given a second chance! So, let's talk about excellent customer service. I brought my car in and provided them with my information and my car keys. I was also immediately greeted with a few good mornings and bright smiles (talk about great smiles and great service!). I was unsure what to do next. Immediately after giving my keys to a very nice gentleman, they offered to drive me home. I'm not quite sure about all of you, but this is one of the few and far between times in my life that I had been ecstatic to graciously accept a ride from a complete (albeit nice) stranger. I kindly declined at first since I only live about 0.5 miles away, but he insisted - so I happily took up his offer (It was only 10 degrees outside. So cold!). He was professional, friendly, and very informative about Japanese vs German engines (I was researching replacement cars. I know. Cheating on my 10.5 year relationship. You know what they say though: "You can look at the menu, but you just can't eat it".. Lol I'm jk) I just drove my car back home and she is running like a beauty. Ken and his staff are very friendly and helpful. My experience was good. Pricing was reasonable and car was fixed faster than expected and they did a good job on the repair. Axel was broken, they fixed it but I started experiencing a lot of shaking when driving that I didn't have before. He advised that any time the axel is broken an alignment should be done. Felt like he should have said that before, not after I came back with an issue. Got said alignment (different shop, Motorwerks doesn't do alignments). Same issue continued. Took my car to another mechanic who took one look and said new tires and my car was officially back to normal. Ken did great work but missed the mark on troubleshooting the new issue. read more

Very fair & very knowledgeable. We service a Lexus, Honda truck, and a couple others there regularly. When it comes to bigger, more expensive jobs (like the timing belt and water pump on our Lexus at 70K miles), Tony is straightforward about what can probably wait and what really needs immediate attention. I had an easy time returning my Penske truck at this location. Everyone here is so friendly. I love that there is a gas pump there and I avoided the expensive gallon surcharge for returning a rental without a full tank. They also have a keys drop box for easy return of rental trucks at non business hours. read more

Came here to have brake work done, which turned out to be a bit of a disaster. Started with routine change of pads and rotators, but it turned it to a much bigger job. Took the car to the dealer who felt these guys had screwed up, hence the problem, but the dealer felt the car could not be driven safely any longer and would take two weeks to get the part. Still, I gave these guys a chance, they said they found the parts and ordered them. on the day I was told the parts arrived I left the car in the evening to have it repaired by the morning. Called the following afternoon and nothing was done. Picked up my car and left (I happened to have also ordered the part on eBay myself, which arrived a day later, but since these guys told me they ordered it and couldn't return it, I still gave them a chance). So I went to another shop and had it taken care of right away. After I left I got a call that they could do the install later that afternoon. This was a lie, as they probably just received the part that afternoon and not the day before as they had said. Plus, I'm convinced that they were responsible for the damage to begin with, as the dealer suggested. Unreliable, unless you maybe just need a tire changed. read more

Reliable, reasonable, dependable. The service I get here is beyond reproach, and I trust them completely. I'm currently dealing with a couple of leaks in my Ford Escape, and when I asked Kenny if the work might be covered by warranty he said that it might. He didn't try to convince me to have him do the job (it's a bit expensive), but said that if I could get warranty work I should. That's a good guy! (And if the work isn't covered by warranty, I am absolutely bringing the car back to them - I'd much rather they get the $ than the dealer.)
