My first visit to Prospect Auto was terrific. I wanted to get my Honda 2022 Pilot Touring model undercoated with Fluid Film to protect it from frame rot and general surface rusting due to NYC's horrendous over-salting in the Winter (especially since I bought after my lease term was completed on it and it has low mileage on it.) Their shop is very clean and the mechanics are professional and friendly. Derrick was great to meet after reading so much about him in previous reviews. They have music playing in the three bay work area which is great, it keeps everyone in good spirits while working on your vehicle. Pricing was very reasonable and straightforward (and no games that are played like from my area in NYC where there is a cash vs credit price where merchants charge you 2-5% extra if you pay by credit card.) I made an appointment for my service on their website and highly recommend you do as well as opposed to walk-in service as they are very busy and then calling them to confirm that for your requested service that you can wait rather than drop off (BUT that depends on where you live and of course what you need done, I'm in NYC so I can't drop it off and leave and comeback when done, I need to wait; if I needed time consuming work / parts like the lower block changed on my J35Y6 engine due to the connecting rod recall, I'd need to leave it there and come back when done days later of course, but for fluid changes like oil/atf/differential/transfer case/break/coolant, I would wait.) For my service, they got to my vehicle quickly and the service was perfect and took the exact amount of time to do it right. I'll be coming back for service for both of my vehicles going forward. It's been many years since I've lived in West Orange, but I'm in town because of a family emergency. Called and spoke to Greg, who was practically waiting for me when I pulled up. A quick assessment revealed the rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced. Greg gave me a quick estimate and pricing was very competitive, so I gave him the go ahead to proceed. Greg had to order the parts, so my mom and I left, but I was surprised to receive a call back very quickly indicating he had gotten the parts in and was ready to do the work. I drove us back over to the shop where Greg got the car into a bay immediately and the work was done in no time. Greg was even kind enough to tighten a few loose bolts that were causing the muffler to rattle and make a terrible noise at no additional charge. Score! No doubt Derrick is one of the best around town! High performance cars no problem he's got the technical background to take care of them and most importantly the tools! I honestly have never been to a more prepared shop within the West Orange area; knowledgeable, willing and prepared. What more can you ask for from a shop that's right behind a gas station? I can only speak for my experience but when I brought over my Evo to Derrick to check it out he definitely took his time and went over everything! Started from the very basic as one should and worked his way up through the more technical aspects. The simple items being the A/C refrigerant refill, basic driveline fluid top offs on a leveled lift, battery recharge, bleeding of the brakes and my AWD system. He's the only guy in the area other than specified speed shops that could even address the smallest of issues that I have had with my car. More importantly he's the only other guy I'm willing to trust. I literally spent the whole day there from 8am to 6pm and saw how the shop ran and what Derrick goes through everyday. All I can say is WOW. I'm surprised he can still get up in the morning and do it again the next day. The only down side to his attention to detail to literally EVERY car that comes in is that he will take a bit longer to get the job done. However, when the job is done he will tell you everything that he did and it will be 100% no questions asked. No surprises on the work-order/invoice and everything is/will be explained by him or the tech upon vehicle delivery. They let me drop off the car and they looked at it the next day and found that it was just the oil filter coming loose. They could have charged a LOT more for the labor and they could have told me something else was wrong but they only charged me a minimal amount for the inspection and an oil change.
