I normally don't leave reviews, but this shop absolutely deserves one. We've been bringing our car here ever since we bought it, and over the years they've earned our complete trust. Even after moving away, we would often make the trip back just to have them inspect our car because we knew they would give us honest advice. A while back, a chain oil change shop told us we needed new brake pads. We came here for a second opinion, and they explained that the rust we were seeing was normal and would wear off with regular local driving. They were right. A year later, another shop again tried to sell us brake pads during an oil change. We immediately brought the car here, and after a thorough inspection, they told us the brakes still had about 2,000 miles left. That level of honesty is rare. Instead of recommending unnecessary repairs, they only suggest work that actually needs to be done. Their prices are fair, their workmanship is excellent, and most importantly, they genuinely care about their customers. 5 Star!!! Best car service in NJ! I got free loaner cars and pick-up service in the last 3 years. In the past 3 years, whenever I need do some fix / service to my cars, I will bring them to John's Auto. From oil change to major fix, you will find honest and best service in NJ! My first experience with John was after a major accident, called in and within 30 mins John came to the scene and gave me a FREE replacement car as he calling for the toll truck. What a service!!! He fixed my 03 CR-V completely and it's still running great today. When I started having problem with my Mercedes GL, I brought the car to John with full trust that he will take care of it with most reasonable price. John would order the Mercedes parts from warehouse and even show me the invoices. What an honest man! Everything is transparent! He did major fixes to my GL with a fraction of the cost any dealer quoted me. Just to read an error code the Midas down the road is charging me $98 plus labor. John will give you the best price and provide loner cars for free. He even did the free pick up whenever he is free. No one can do that! read more

Finding a good mechanic is difficult, especially if you're new to an area. Obviously, taking a car to the nearest gas-station-garage is an invitation for an outrageous bill and a lot of attitude. What's a person to do? Head to John's, aka Montclair Auto Collision (I think)-- the address listed on Yelp is correct. Finished work in a timely manner, but I was somewhat disappointed due to the fact that the time it took to complete was double what was initially quoted (instead of being charged 80 I was charged 160). Everyone that I spoke to who worked there was very hospitable, but initially I did end up waiting at the front desk for about 20 minutes. The lady who manages the front desk was exceptionally kind, but unfortunately there was no way for her to know I was waiting, nor no way for me to know where else to go to seek help. Maybe some sort of doorbell or camera could be installed to alert the front desk of incoming customers. Overall, I would recommend this shop. read more

I can't speak for the service, but I was sold a car with a branded title without my knowledge. The mileage that was shown to me was incorrect. The CARFAX that was shown to me when I decided to buy the car was very different from what was shown to me when I traded the car in for a more stable vehicle. That is not good business ethics at all. I should have known better when it comes to buying a used car outside of a dealership, but that alone makes me not trust them to fix the car I currently have. read more
