20+ Year Customer Lost - Terrible Warranty Policy and Even Worse Customer Service!…read more I've been a loyal Batteries Plus customer for over 20 years, spending thousands of dollars on batteries for vehicles, ATVs, generators, and countless other applications. I also have a professional background in the automotive industry, including ASE certification, so I'm certainly no stranger to batteries, charging systems, or diagnosing battery failures. On Sunday, my wife's car battery failed. I contacted the Mesa location and was informed that Batteries Plus had implemented new company-wide warranty procedures apparently designed to reduce warranty replacements. These requirements were subsequently confirmed by an employee at the Gilbert location. Apparently, a defective battery must be capable of accepting a full charge before it can be properly tested and considered for warranty replacement. Seriously? A battery that won't accept a full charge is often the very definition of a failed battery! After a career in the automotive industry, I find this requirement particularly ridiculous. To the Mesa employee's credit, he was courteous, apologetic, and tried to help. Unfortunately, they didn't have the replacement battery in stock, but the Gilbert location showed three available. I called Gilbert and explained the situation. The employee informed me that because the battery had already been replaced under warranty in 2024, I would now be required to pay 50% toward another replacement, despite the warranty being valid through March 2027. With their increased pricing, that meant approximately $130 out of pocket, assuming the battery cleared all their warranty-testing hurdles. And the replacement would only carry approximately FIVE MONTHS of warranty coverage! After more than two decades of loyalty, I found this extremely disappointing. I asked the Gilbert employee if he would pass my concerns up the management chain, explaining that these policies were driving away a longtime customer who had spent thousands of dollars with the company. I also explained that I would be taking my future business to Walmart, where batteries are competitively priced, readily available, and supported by a much larger network of locations. His response? He hung up on me! That's absolutely unacceptable customer service, especially toward someone simply asking that legitimate concerns be communicated to management. Batteries Plus used to be my go-to source for batteries of all kinds. Unfortunately, their increasingly restrictive warranty process, questionable replacement costs, and the treatment I received from the Gilbert location have changed that. My recommendation: Think twice before purchasing an automotive battery from Batteries Plus, and be especially cautious about dealing with the Gilbert location. There are better options available. After 20+ years, Batteries Plus has lost my business.

A few days later, Bo, called and said that he could do an earlier date which was great. The day of installation, the crew was on time was completed within 45 minutes. After the crew left, I inspected their work a little closer and found the mounting screws were not adequate on one side of the battery. I also found that after 4-5 hours of charging the meter showed 47%, continued to charge overnight and found that the charge was still 47%. Being concerned I called and spoke with Bo about my issues. He said the battery may be bad and they would be out the next morning to replace it. The next morning Bo arrived and found that the connector was bad from the factory which needed to replace the charger. Bo immediately went to his shop, brought a new charger and replaced it. He secured the battery properly, plugged it in and immediately started charging and was reflected by the meter. The young man at the AT&T store in Costco suggested I go to Batteries Plus. He felt it was a problem with the screen. Mikayla at Batteries Plus was simple incredible! She was the only person who showed motivation to help me. She was also totally transparent and acknowledged that while it was most likely a screen issue (she could tell the phone was operating- we just couldn't see anything on the screen) she may have a problem removing the screen. This particular phone apparently has a paper thin screen, making it difficult to remove without causing peripheral damage. I may not be describing the problem precisely. What I do knowis that Mikayla was competent and motivated to help. By the time we were finished, I knew she was amazing! Things happen, and I wasn't so much upset with the phone breaking as I was the total indifference from every person I contacted to try and understand fix the problem. I went to the local AT&T store and they couldn't or wouldn't help me. The agent couldn't see the serial number and I didn't have the original paperwork. For reasons I don't understand, he said he couldn't look at my purchase history. Lesson learned and I will keep every piece of paper connected to any future phone purchase. I asked him if he could write it down for me and he said, "I'll take a pic with your phone of the address." What kind of bs customer service is that?? He kindly reminded me to bring back the old battery for the core refund. At the time, I wasn't aware the old battery was still under warranty. About a week later, I returned the old battery and dealt with Tony. During the replacement process at home, I had realized the old battery was only about 26 months old and should have qualified for warranty coverage. Tony immediately processed the $15 core refund and told me to have a great day. Only after I asked about the warranty did he seem surprised and tell me the battery would need to be charged and tested first. He said someone would contact me with the results. About a week and a half later, Mike called and left a voicemail confirming the battery would not hold a charge and qualified for replacement under warranty. Had Mike been at the store upon my return, I believe this would have been resolved easily. When I returned to the store, Tony again confirmed the battery would not hold a charge. However, instead of honoring the warranty, he began looking for reasons not to. He questioned where I bought the battery, asked for a receipt from more than two years ago, and repeatedly stated he could not verify my purchase, even though Mike had previously been able to locate my customer history in the system. I explained that the battery carried an Interstate sticker dated 4/2024 and even showed him a photo from the day I purchased it in that city. None of this seemed to matter. Rather than helping find a solution, Tony appeared focused on finding a reason to deny the warranty claim. The entire interaction became increasingly frustrating. It wasn't until I told Tony I would sit in the store and contact the other Interstate location or corporate that he decided to call his manager. He eventually spoke with his boss and was authorized to refund the battery purchase, which he then processed. In the end, I told Tony that both interactions were unacceptable. I strongly believe he intended to let me leave the first time with only the $15 core refund and no mention of the warranty, despite the battery qualifying for coverage. Customers rely on store associates to do the right thing and help them navigate warranty claims fairly. Mike demonstrated that level of customer service; Tony did not. Tony needs to do better as a representative of Interstate All Battery Center. Honoring warranties and treating customers fairly should never feel like a battle.
