Ahh speak easy bar, why are you so hard to find? Believe it or not, I couldn't find this stupid bar my first time around to save my life. So after reading a bunch of yelp reviews, I figured out that the entrance is actually in an alley. So after a couple of bars, we decided to hop on over to this one. At first, we couldn't get in because they were over capacity and there was a huge line for entrance. After a while, we came back and was finally let it... Or snuck it, I can't remember. Once inside, we were thoroughly disappointed. The place was tiny and dark! Perhaps I was a little too hopped up on happy drinks, but it had an eerie red glow as well. Seatings were extremely limited and the bar had way too many corners, which I hate. For the love of god, it's not a maze, design it right. This place was ok. Kind of a cool speakeasy type of back door/ back alley place. Very dark, crowded (even with covid they packed too many people in a room way to close together. Granted, they did check vaccine cards at the door, but still, a little space for privacy would have been nice.) But I get it, that's not what they are going for I guess. Drinks were ok. I asked to see if they had any mocktails and they didn't. So I ordered a diet coke with lime which they didn't know if they had any. They didn't, so just a diet coke came out. I think for the hour and a half I spent here, I had a difficult time adjusting to Bathtub. I guess that my idea of a good time is a little skewed compared to the standards of Seattle. Is it tiny, cramped, and moody enough to reflect the inner grappling demons of my soul? FIVE YELP STARS. I'd give Bathtub more of a 3.5. This place is perhaps great for an intimate conversation with someone with whom you are familiar. I wouldn't be fond of it if I were looking to have a casual conversation with someone because it is so cramped that we might as well all be having an orgy together. It is easy to get distracted because you're in close quarters with other people. In any case, I can see the appeal as well. It is a much more mature place where adults are going in to enjoy their cocktails and not slamming back cheap vodka shots. Chances are, you're not going to find a coterie of cougars and douches talking about their boats, sexless marriage, and how Bluetooth headsets are still "in." The ambiance in general is quite subdued, if you're into that. Me? If I can't openly fart and squirt ketchup down my shirt, I'm just not so sure. Noise level never became too loud or obnoxious but I could still eavesdrop on other people's conversations if I wanted. Due to their reputation of mixing the crème de la crème of cocktails, I had obviously a difficult time deciding what I wanted to drink. Being not that frequent of a drinker, I couldn't tell you squat about liquor. But the cocktail waitress recommended two drinks based on a bad, vague description of what I prefer in my drinks: My mellow, my man and some other one that is more on the "refreshing, citrusy side," or at least how she described it. We ended up ordering both. The cocktail waitress was sweet and cute. She gave my friend and I plenty of space to think about what we wanted to order and talk. My mellow, my man is an excellent, rum-based drink. It has the undertones of an Old-Fashioned sans the kick-me-in-the-ass after taste. This is one of the first drinks at a bar that I have enjoyed slowly and ended up finishing, too. I wish I could say the same for the other cocktail. I think it was made with vodka and it had your generic "refreshing" qualities to it like cucumbers. Honestly tasted like a mixture of face wash and nail polish. I wasn't too fond of the cosmetic taste, strangely. I'd give this place another shot in the future. Got dropped off here by Uber at about 1:29 AM after coming across amazing yelp reviews--didnt realize until after we arrived that it was a speak easy! There was no entrance out front...but there was small sign at 2205 that directed us to the alley, so we literally ran around the side of the building, dodged several crack heads, a gang of bicycle cops (4 of them, I quipped "What is this CHIPS after budget cuts?"...3 laughed one did not) and some drunken yuppytards so that we would get to the door before last call... To our relief we got in, bouncer free and it became clear we'd be able to order a drink. Booyah! Place is multi level with a really cool, intimate bar up top, it was a tuesday night with only one bartender somehow managing about 20 people in a small area AND delivering drink orders to the side room downstairs. For the sake of efficiency we opted to let the bartender pick out two of his favorite drink confrontations.... I gave free rain on a bourbon order, my ladyfriend--apparently confusing the speak easy for a minute maid commercial asked for something "citrusy." With that we headed downstairs and awaited our drink orders... In the first area there was a couple drysexin on one and other so we opted for the second room where low and behold there were yuppy youngins sittin on the couch, "This is my first rodeo" more or less plastered on their foreheads... Neither here nor there but this third room was awesome, only complaint was the music selection. When I think speak easy, I don't think LL Cool J--Doin it which is what was playing when we sat down... Drinks showed up and were awesome. Best of all the barkeep didnt kick us out till 215 or so! No reservation required at Bathtub Gin & Co, which can be good or bad. I love the alley entrance in the back, but it might be a bit hard to find if you're a newbie to this Seattle speakeasy. Luckily, there is a sign at the door. Seating is limited (upstairs with 6 at the bar and two small tables on the side; more seating and tables are available on the first floor). Drinks go for about $10 each and they are pretty standard in quality. I didn't get anything that blew me away, but then again I only ordered two drinks. I would love to return and continue on my liquid journey at Bathtub Gin & Co. Overall, I love the dark decor and the intimate setting of this place. I AM A FAN! Took a girlfriend here on a Sat. evening and was lucky enough to get in with no wait. Doorman let us in despite no seating areas available at the time. Within 10 minutes luck stayed with us and cleared the upstairs window table, which offers a tiny bit more personal space. Upstairs consists of a wraparound bar (seats 6) and two tables (seats 2). Bartender was a gem and made us some delicious concoctions - enjoyed a campari cocktail w/bitters, friends enjoyed the hibiscus prosecco cocktail. Love the Dealer's Choice - select any base liquor and tell the bartender "sweet," "sassy," or "savory" for a just-for-you version. I was able to take a sneak preview of Bathtub Gin & Co., a tiny new speak-easy inspired bar in the alley between First & Second near Blanchard. Scheduled to have a soft opening in the next few weeks, I am convinced that it will be Seattle's newest hotspot, and I will tell you why. The site of Bathtub Gin is in the basement of the Humphrey Apartments, which was built in the 1920s. The interior, inspired by prohibition opulence, is pure speakeasy glamor. When you walk in, the ambiance makes you feel that you're entering another time. It's an intimate place, and has small rooms to escape to. There's beautiful exposed brick, and the place has been decorated with attention to every detail. The other reason why I am convinced that the place will be a huge success is that the owners know cocktails. The two have been around the Belltown scene for years and have worked in some of the hottest spots. They're smart. They pay attention to quality. They know how to keep a dedicated clientelle. They have a local following. They're focused on customer service. Most of all, they know how to have fun and they know how to make a mean cocktail. The location is great, too. How easy will it be too dash across the parking lot to Bathtub Gin from Amber, Cellars, Spur, Ohana, Belltown Billiards, or the Queen City Grill? This place is now one of my favorites! We came to Seattle one evening to go out to dinner at the Pink Door and afterwards wanted to find a place for drinks. We found this place on google & the name alone caught our interests + it was described as prohibition era style -very intriguing! We walked past this place a few times trying to locate it on the gps lol it wasn't until we seen someone walk out that we realized that it was right there the whole time! Once we walked in we were directed to the lower level because seating was full up at the bar. We sat downstairs at a cozy little dim table tucked in the corner. The ambiance was romantically lit by the candles placed at all the tables. This bar has a really unique set up & sultry mysterious vibe. It's nowhere close to resemblance but it reminded me of the entrance to the Smooth Criminal location during the Moonwalker film; the resemblance being in an alley, brick exteriors and somewhat nondescript door... It is definitely quite the small space. It's cozy and rather intimate [downstairs] for what it is - I wouldn't mind bringing a date here for it's unique vibe [downstairs] and being "off the beaten path", er, main road. I LOVE this place! I do want to warn you, that this place only has 40 seats. You do not come here to sit at the bar. They have tables on both floors and a nice room for large parties on the first floor. With that said, this place is ideal if you are a party of 2-4. My friends and I were exploring Bell Town and stumbled upon this bar from the yelp reviews. There was a short wait out in the alley since they were full inside and the bouncer was very informative. He shared really good information on where to head go out in Seattle. The decor was classic and understated. The alley was somewhat hard to find, but we were definitely so happy to find it. There are couple of tables downstairs, and then the bar upstairs. There weren't many seats, but you could stand upstairs as well too. It doesn't seem like too many people knew of the place, or maybe they just turned away a lot of people outside. There was a seat at the bar, so my friend and I shared the seat together. It was decently large. There's a dealer's choice (that really isn't on the menu), but you can just tell the really awesome bartender what you like drink wise (alcohol type, flavors, other things you like in your drinks, etc) and he'll make something with those things in it. I told the bartender I liked vodka and tequila and something sweet and slightly sour. He made me a drink with all that. As the name might suggest, Bathtub Gin & Co. is a throw back to the Prohibition day speakeasies. Located behind the Humphrey Apartments, the nondescript door leads to a room and a small bar with just 6 seats upstairs. The exposed brick, pressure gauges, tin tile ceilings, and décor create a unique atmosphere, and it reminded me a lot of Bourbon and Branch in San Francisco, but without the passwords and games. Bathtub Gin had a Summer Cocktail menu, with a strong focus on gin. Started off with the Milan-Torino, which was a brilliant twist on the Negroni, which some find a bit too potent. The spiced ginger ale definitely smoothed out the campari, gin, and sweet vermouth - delicious! I then moved on to a gin and tonic, but with some muddled cucumbers, which was very refreshing but very potent, and had me ready to move on to See Sound Lounge for the Chuck Love set. Overall, Bathtub Gin & Co. is a great place for serious cocktails in an intimate and unique atmosphere. The place is a on the smaller side, so it can get a bit noisy if there is a large group. But with great drinks and service, it's a place that feels very comfortable and a place that's been around forever, even though it has been open for a month. read more

i never knew we had places like this in Seattle. We came here after visiting the Picasso exhibit at SAM (which was amazing by the way) So we left SAM at about midnight.. we probably had to wait to get inside Bathtub for like maybe 5 minutes. It was rainy and windy out so it seemed way longer. The bouncer was friendly & he told us where there was empty spots. So we went straight downstairs for a little and when the bar cleared up we went upstairs. I love the way this place looks, I felt like I was somewhere else far away.. everyone seemed like they were enjoying their time there, a very intimate setting and a great place to chat it up with new people. My friend who has been here before suggested I tell the bartender what I liked and he can make something yummy. So i just asked for something light, sweet, no dark liquor... A few minutes later I had a yummy lemonade colored drink with fuchsia petals in it. It was delicious & very STRONG. One drink is all i need. Maybe my 5-star experience stems from having made friends with the bartender the first time around but every time I've been to Bathtub Gin & Co it's always been a fantastic time with no wait at the door. This place is, like many said, in an alley next to a parking lot and completely unsuspecting, like speakeasys tend to be. At the door, you are greeted by a doorman who will hold you back if there are too many people inside already and you will have to wait for someone to leave before you're let it. Once inside, there's two levels, the upper level is always packed but that's where the bar (and bartender!) is who whips up delicious drinks on and off the menu. Downstairs is a very loungy relaxy area (are those even words?!) because it's dark, dimly lit and has some wanna be book shelves in a small room. I would not recommend this for a first date since the atmosphere is interesting, the crowd is ... interesting and the drinks are STRONG. This place truly defines the meaning of the words "hidden gem." I must have walked past this place at least a hundred times and never saw the entrance. It's in a freaking parking lot for goodness sake! The first thing that jumps out at you when you arrive is the size. It's small, actually, small is an exaggeration, it's TINY. Like seats about two dozen people in total, tiny. If you can grab a seat, lace up your drinking shoes because everything here is awesome. The cocktails are so good, mixed with an expert hand and great ingredients. If you're planning on stopping by, skip your usual vodka (insert mixer here) and order something of their menu. I really wanted to like this place Let's start with noting it is REALLY small, capacity is 35-40 max. Which basically means there will be a line to get in, which is not the end of the world but if you are part of a large group it could mean a long wait. The entrance is in an alley, speak easy style, except the line of people basically gives it away. We did have a dump truck come by (surprised those run on Saturday nights!) to collect trash while we were in line. The bouncer/security guy was actually really nice, very friendly. Since we were visiting from out of town he gave some suggestions for things to do in Seattle. It probably took our group of 5 about 40 min to get in. Once it was our turn we were given a high top table in the basement level. 4 barstools for a party of 5... and basically they told us one person would have to stand (umm,ok... what was the point of waiting in line- could have just stood by the bar, right?). The menu has a list of 10+ cocktails. All sound pretty interesting and creative based off the ingredients. Then our waitress comes. I have NEVER met such a rude server in all my life. She seriously should not be working as a waitress or anything that requires communication and service. When asked which cocktail she would recommend as less sweet more citrus in profile she essentially said she can't make a recommendation because everyone has a different flavor profile. Umm yes but I just explained what I was looking for. She became super defensive and went on to explain all the drinks are only sweetened with the natural juices from the fruits (not exactly... saw agave listed on several drinks). Then she went on to say this current drink menu has only been out for 2 weeks... ok that makes sense, you haven't tried them all yet! Just say so! Nope, she got super defensive again and said she's tried them all. Holy moly we were going in circles and finally I said whatever I'll just try Fuzzy Blossom. It's got citrus. The Spring Training was also listed as citrusy and tart, my husband ended up with that. When she left our entire group was speechless, horrified and laughing all at once. Love. We were SUPER tired after 4 days of eating and drinking our way through Portland and Seattle, and Bathtub Gin was our final stop in Seattle before ending our adventure. Definitely wasn't in the mood for a cocktail when I came, but was swayed into going by my hubby and I'm SO glad that I went. Not quite sure what the bartender made me, but I do know that it was delicious. Gin lovers celebrate! Bathtub is a bit intimidating from the outside--there's almost always a long wait to get in, the entrance is unmarked aside from the loitering queue. But once you're inside it is pretty inviting and chilled out, and doesn't really feel that "speakeasy" like, aside from being dark and underground. The cocktails here are nice, with something for pretty much all tastes. I enjoyed the Nantucket Mongoose, and if you're into sweeter flavors you'd probably like the Dot Dot Dot. There were communication issues between the server and bartender about handling the upper-level table in the corner. It should not have been and should NOT be the bartender's responsibility. A really neat speakeasy tucked behind a darker part of Seattle. My friend and I came in, waited a while to find a seat since the establishment may only fit 30 people at a time. We grabbed a little table and our waitress was extremely helpful in helping us choose a cocktail. Because of my indecisiveness, I went with bartender's choice where the bartender could make anything he/she wanted with the flavors and alcohols I preferred. I didn't think speakeasies were a thing in Seattle, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear good things about this place and probably went in with higher expectations. However, the space is simply not cozy and shielded enough. While the entrance is in the alleyway, it's a very wide alleyway. It's not super hidden or secret. That's fine. Once you enter, you are faced with a few steps of stairs down and a few steps of stairs up. There are about 4 tables right by the stairs, and there are others tables more hidden in the main room past a door. We got seated at a table right by the stairs. The whole time we were there, whenever someone came in, we would be hit with the light from outside, not to mention it was very disruptive to our conversations and the whole experience. This is the worst design of a speakeasy I have ever encountered. There is not enough separation between the outside world and the establishment for customers sitting right by the entrance. As to the drinks, I admittedly did not get a gin drink, so take this with a grain of salt. I got the Dapper as F***. It was tasty, but not very strong. Not the best cocktail at the $12 price point. My friend got the Flamingo Kid with rum and gin and thought it was only ok, too. Maybe the main room past the door delivers a much better experience. But to make it more fair and consistent for all customers, I sincerely recommend the business rethink the design. read more

Bathtub Gin has a low-key, subtle entrance in the alleyway between 1st and 2nd Ave northwest of Blanchard. The spot has two floors and not a lot of space which adds to the charm and ideally tries to enhance socializing with patrons. They have a set cocktail menu you can look over or you can work with the bartender to make you a little something different. What I can say is that the drink sizes here are larger than most places and strong.... like lights out after two rounds strong. It was certainly cool to experience this place as it carries the somewhat speakeasy theme, though there are others around worth experiencing as well. read more

Seating is limited, but it's a great spot to cozy up for a drink as they make solid cocktails and is dimly lit. You can sit at the bar or find a smaller room to grab more comfortable seating and have a more intimate conversation. A waitress will come by to take your drink order from any of the rooms if you're not seated at the bar. The drink menu is pretty limited to liquor, so come resdy to order a mixed drink or stiff pour rather than a beer. read more

This was the first speakeasy bar I've ever been to and overall I was a little underwhelmed. I did like the idea of finding the 'hidden' entrance in an alley but after being seated downstairs it sort of lost its appeal for me. I may have enjoyed it a bit more if we sat on a different level or even in the room beside us with the couch and bench; where we sat it was a little distracting each time the door opened. I think it would be a very different experience to actually sit at the bar, especially after reading other reviews stating they got drinks personalized for them from the bartender. As for the drinks, our group of three ordered the exterminating angel, the flamingo kid, and if it ain't broke. Honestly, none of us enjoyed the drinks we ordered but you do get your moneys worth as they were all incredibly strong. If you're indecisive about what drink to get definitely ask, I regret not doing so. read more

Great speakeasy with great ambiance and service. I'm not the biggest fan of their original cocktail program -- particularly not the Dapper as F*** which while amazingly complex and technical just isn't an enjoyable drink -- but they do all the classics justice. Entrance through the alley is very sketchy, but that's part of the experience and makes sitting down feel like a truly transformative experience -- the main draw of speakeasies IMO. read more
