Over 12 years ago, we had Bathfitters convert one of our high-side tubs to a low-rise shower with glass doors. Since it still looks new, hardware and all, we recently had them rebuild another one. This one is a corner design of translucent glass with a swinging glass door and is complete with seat, valet shelves, and "grab bars" all around. It is perfect for the elderly!!l The project was started on time and each phase was clearly announced, completed as advertised, and the jobsite was left clean. I had Bath Fitter out of El Cajon franchise re-do a tub/shower area for a rental house in October, 2022. It was a one-day job. At the time I thought that was great, but now see that this one-solution-fits all was a mistake. This February, my tenant informed me that there were water marks developing on the ceiling directly below the tub on the second floor. I called my plumber thinking it was a pipe leak issue. They didn't find any leaks from the piping, so after checking all around the tub and toilet area, they surmized that it had to be coming from the seals around the tub/shower fixtures and/or the showerhead. They redid those thinking they had addressed the leaking problem. With mitigation and drywall/paint, that was $2,900. About a month later, the tenant told me the water marks were back. So I called the plumber to come out to see what was causing it. This time, they had to open a lot more holes in the drywall to see what was going on. Again, no leaks on the piping or plumbing. Finally, they saw that toward the back of the tub, there was about a 2-inch gap where the caulking had detached from the large acrylic panel wall. So when the shower is on the water was getting through there and then pooling down the bottom of the tub and onto the ceiling down below in the entryway. Supposedly, Bath Fitter has a lifetime warranty on the product. I called them up and got the run around time and time again. Their customer service is really bad. It was a difficult process to try to get them to just come out. They finally sent a tech out, and he saw the problem and told me that they would have to replace the panel but that he could re-caulk the line along the wall for a temporary solution. That is what he did and it held for now. So I called them up to get them to honor their warranty and get the replacement panel ordered and then installed. Then the problems began. They started dragging their feet and saying they didn't think they were responsible for the leaks. Anyway, after writing a letter to Corporate in Tennessee, they finally relented and scheduled a lead installer to come out. After looking at it, he said that they would have to custom order the acrylic panel and then come by to install. It would take a few weeks to get it made in their manufacturing facility. Ok, I thought we had this solved. Wrong. In late May, after a prior cancelled appointment by them, the lead installer showed up with a plumber. After about a half an hour, he called me up to the bathroom upstairs and then began to tell me they couldn't find the leak. I said of course not. It has been re-caulked by your tech. Then he said that he couldn't identify the problem so he could not offer me a solution. So he said that they would break the caulk line and go in about 2 inches and blow it out, triple check, etc. and see what they could find. By the way he described the process, I was thinking it would take a few hours. He kept saying they have a rail system that would prevent the leaking. Well, it did not in my case. I went to the backyard for about 15 minutes and when I returned to the house, they were gone. Nothing. I finally got a hold of someone later that day at the office. They claimed they couldn't get ahold of the installer and he wouldn't be in till the next day, so they couldn't tell me anything. Anyway, long story short, they refused to honor their warranty and all they said was it could be the roof or maybe a side bathroom window where water gets in. Nonsense. I made it clear we had recently replaced the roof and that as soon as it was recaulked, the water damage stopped. The bottom line is I am left with a bath/shower area that when the caulking fails, a large amount of water will leak into the walls and flooring/ceiling area. So I have no choice but to redo the bathroom at this point or just hope that I can redo the caulking every year on my own and hope it holds for another 12 months. It is a rental so I have to rely on the tenants to check it. The lead installer had mentioned they would take care of the drywall and paint this second time. Nothing. I had to call someone to come out and do that again. I am out another $2,300. So far, I am out $5,200 with this leaking problem. At this point, I have zero trust in this Bath Fitter franchise. In hindsight, I should have just gone with a typical bath remodeler that does the job right and replaces the tub. This acrylic wrap-around system didn't work for me. Buyer Beware read more

Misleading Sales Tactics I signed a contract with Bath Fitter the last week of May 2025, after a persuasive sales presentation that promised a fast, seamless installation and stressed that the materials used were standard and modular --but upon installation can be customized to fit my unique space. The salesman rushed through the signing of the contract and I insisted I get to go back and read the fine print. He reassured me that I would have zero issues and the project would be done by the final week of June, latest, 4th of July. Based on that information, I moved forward and paid a $1,000 deposit and an additional $5,551 for materials. However, after weeks of delays and no installation date, I chose to cancel the project. Only then was I told that the materials were supposedly "custom" from the factory and non-refundable -- contradicting what the salesman originally told me. Although Bath Fitter agreed to refund the $5,551 material payment, they are withholding the $1,000 deposit. I've emailed multiple times and am being given the run-around. The lack of communication, misleading sales tactics, and refusal to return funds for an installation that never occurred is unacceptable. I would strongly advise others to be cautious before proceeding with this company. read more

Former employee for bath fitter el cajon. When i had my interview, I informed them my schedule and they said it was fine and something they could work around. But when i had to call out sick to go to the ER, they fired me while i was at the doctors over the phone. Their reasoning was they needed someone to work Saturday's, yet they told me my schedule was okay. When I tried to call them, they didn't want to speak to me. I was completely blindsided. I was nice to everyone and vice versa. I don't understand why they couldn't tell me this in person or before they decided to hire me instead of smiling at my face and waiting until I wasn't in the office to tell me over the phone. This review is for Zac in San Diego. He installed a fitted tub and shower acrylic liner over our old tired tiles and tub. He installed a new valve and also moved the shower head up about 8-10". He did the job in one day and had a great work ethic, did great work, and was friendly and polite as he did his work. If you choose a Bathfitter liner, we highly recommend Zac for installation. The end result looks fabulous. We can't rate the durability yet but we are hoping it's as durable and easy to clean as advertised. The El Cajon team was easy to work with and communicated well. Last month we had 2 bathrooms updated by Bath Fitter. Victor, Shawn, and Tony were the installers and all really good guys. Easy to talk with and worked hard. Brandon did the sales appointment, which went smoothly as well. All in all, good experience that was what we were looking for. We selected them after interviewing a total of 3 bathroom contractors. Overall, I think it's important to keep remodels in line with expectations. It seems like some people think they are dealing with a high-end, custom design contractor that will cater to your every need. Bath Fitter is not that and we didn't want/need that. I had a terrible experience with Bath Fitter San Diego. Mike did my install and although he is a very nice young man, he made several mistakes, including cutting through a live water line. He also scratched my vanity door and his demolition work caused damage to the drywall in my bedroom and also cracked the door jamb which I ultimately had to remove. Their "fixer" Bill is clearly unqualified, as it took him 3 trips to Home Depot to make a simple repair on a valve that Mike broke. I opted NOT to have Bill make any of the cosmetic repairs. The worst part about Bath Fitter is their lack of customer service. I was never rude on the phone and I wasn't harassing them. But after I sent an email documenting all the damage, Karen stopped answering the phone when she saw my number on the caller ID. Their best employee is Shelly, who seemed sympathetic and promised to get their general manager to respond to my email. That never happened. I wish I had reviewed the other negative reviews before I hired them. read more

If I could give Bath Fitter zero stars I would. The sales experience went fine, but the materials and installation quality were horrible. The caulking was incredibly sloppy, there were massive gaps between the new tub and the floor, they got caulking on our ceiling, they didn't strap the new pipes to the stud, and the tub no longer would drain. When I called to have all of these issues fixed, they had the audacity to request payment in full. I explained that they would receive the final payment when the project was completed and in its current state, the shower was not complete. The company went so far as to send a threatening letter indicating they were in the process of filing a lein on our home. They ultimately finished the job to the bare minimum quality and I paid. I will never work with this company again. read more

This is not a review about the sales or installation, this is about BF commitment to the lifetime warranty they so proudly advertise. I had a bathtub liner installed in 2020. Right away I noticed a couple of air pockets towards the back but I was assured by the installer and salesman that those would not be a problem because everything else "was sealed around it". Well...the liner cracked right on top of one of those air pockets. I reported this to BF in April, they came to evaluate, told me that it could be sealed but then the person who came to apply the sealant told me that the liner needed to be replaced. I quickly realized that since this is not a new sale and BF is not making money, they are in no hurry to get me a new liner. I had to calle several times to check on the process and I had to explain everything again every time. To make matters worse, they made me sign a document stating that the problem with the liner was caused by the use of unauthorized bath tub cleaners, which is untrue because I only used water and vinegar. When I called to protest, the person in production told me that the form wasn't a big deal but it was necessary in case BF wanted to sue the cleaning product manufacturer, and that my claim would not be submitted to corporate without the form (so much for unnecessary). I asked for the evidence that it was caused by a cleaner- no evidence has been provided. I also asked for the photos taken by the person who first evaluated the problem I was told (by the same woman) that I could take my own photos because the ones taken by BF were in a device somewhere and she didn't have access to it. I asked for an ETA on the replacement, the answer: "call back tomorrow". The next day: "call back in 4-6 weeks", "corporate has to review and approve" and "the prices have doubled, so I don't know what's going to happen with yours" This person I have to deal with for any information about the status of my claim is incompetent, rude, and dismissive. Rarely have I encountered such poor customer service (obviously, it was very different during the initial sale) I regret making business with this company but now I'm stuck with them and their poor customer service for as long as it takes to replace the liner. read more

Last update! 6 visits later, the plumbing is still jacked up. The only way I can explain this level of incompetence is that whoever manages their staff is training them wrong on purpose as a joke. Now, there is no water pressure in the shower and it makes a banging noise while the shower is on. I am giving up and hiring someone who knows what they're doing. My last complaints went unanswered, by the way. Nor have they fixed the billing issue. Shout out to Remodel Works, who pointed out that these fools left temporary plumbing in my wall. Without them, I would have doubtlessly had way more problems than I already do. read more

Our experience was great with the sales team. We waited awhle for a bathtub to arrive (which was expected) and then installation was set up for the job to take two days. The installer was very nice but worked short days and did not finish in the two days. We had to take another day off of work for the job to be finished and then the glass installer had to be scheduled. The shower head was installed too high for me to reach the adjustable settings, so they ordered a longer arm so I would be able to reach It. I was told that would take a day. We called four weeks later to let them know it still has not been finished. We were told approximately two weeks for the glass to be cut and installed. I called Bathfitter at the end of the third week and was basically told "that's not our problem and that's dony by a third party and we cannot give out his contact number". I disagree since my contract was with Bathfitter and I am paying Bathfitter for the glass. After four weeks our glass was installed. It was supposed to be at about the shower head height but ended up being almost to the ceiling, which not only looks awkward, but there is no fan in that area so the shower fogs up immediately and I am now worried about mold/moisture in my ceiling. I called Bathfitter to ask about this and again the person said you signed the contract so there isn't anything that can be done unless you want to pay to have it changed. I asked to see where I approved the glass being almost to the ceiling and was sent a contract to review but unless I am missing it, there are no measurements on it for the glass. The installation department is very rude and really just tries to get you off of the phone because they don't want to deal with you. I was given an e-mail if I wanted to file a complaint (no phone number or name, just a generic email). When spending approx. $14,000 on a project, I would at the very least expect better communication and not feeling like I am bothering them by calling and and asking questions. I will say the finished product looks very nice other than the glass being done way too high. Unfortunately, I will not use them again or recommend to anyone. read more
