This is a wonderful winery in the Highland Valley wine area. My husband and I discovered them a couple of years ago by accident while looking for a different winery (there are 9 wineries in the Highland Valley wine Region). It's a very laidback, super relaxing winery that is in definite contrast to a few of the bigger more boisterous places in the area. Ron and Kelly are warm and welcoming, and very knowledgeable about wine. Their property has lots of tables and chairs outside with a decent amount of shade, which for me is a must, because my Irish skin cannot tolerate the San Diego sun. They are also very dog friendly, and usually have their own dog, Jade, acting a "greeter" when you arrive. How is the wine? Very well-thought out. I've never had less than an excellent glass of their wine every time we visit. My husband and I never leave without at least one bottle every time we visit. They are definitely worth the long and windy drive to find them. read more

Tastings: $21/person for 5 pours First visit to Bastian's Vineyards which is tucked away on several acres in Highland Valley. This family-owned, boutique winery has created a rustic tasting experience on their outdoor patio overlooking the vineyards and surrounding hillsides. It seemed like most of the patronage were regulars. It's very dog, friendly, however, the dogs ran all over the place and begged at each table for anybody that had food. I'm fine with dogs but owners need to keep them in line just like when bringing your children to a winery. Charcuterie trays were available for purchase ($18) and made a nice accompaniment to the wines. There was live music during our visit which was a nice addition to the ambiance. WINES: Owners/winemakers, Ron & Kelly Bas, have been in the wine-making business for over 20 years and were wonderful hosts. Their estate grape varietals include Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. They also purchase Cab Franc, Merlot, and other varietals. They are currently pouring 2022/2023 vintages of their reds. IMO, the wines were on the lighter side for our palates and seemed to already have some age to them. We were fortunate to taste Ron's soon to be released Viognier, which was excellent. Overall, a nice experience, but I could have done without all the dog commotion. read more

Amazing winery on Bandy Canyon! Close to many of the Highland Valley wineries so you can definitely hop around. We met the owner who was wonderful & passionate about his wines! The vineyards are nice with plenty of seating. We found a spot under the vines which was lovely. My husband ordered a red & I got a white, both were tasty & my white was super refreshing. read more

We came across this winery a couple months ago and Ron and Kelly could not have been more inviting. While it's a boutique winery, the wine is top notch! We were greeted by their friendly Golden Retriever as soon as we stepped out of our cars. She was so cute and would put her head on our laps too. Bastian's has a small tasting patio and a gazebo with a large table for 10. The owners were very nice and the winemaker did the pours himself for our tastings. We learned about how they make their wines, where they come from, and more about their vineyard. We really like their GSM. The prices on their bottles were good too. $36 for reds and $30 for whites. Our group really enjoyed our Sunday afternoon here. The property was beautiful even in winter. I bet it's fabulous in spring when there are leaves and grapes on the vines. read more

We had a fun time at Bastian's this past Saturday. Our friend had her 40th birthday, we were able to enjoy delicious red wines and a great view all just a few minutes from I-15 but a world away! Our favorites were the Syrah and the GSM. There was a very relaxed but friendly Golden Retriever there to keep us company. Great hidden gem for sure! read more

Five stars for customer service and the cutest Golden Retriever mascot! Friends of ours took us out to Bastian's for our first time this afternoon. They gave us the heads up to bring some snacks to go with the wine, which was helpful. The owner was very welcoming and happy to describe his wine offerings. Amazing experience at Bastian's Vineyards! They opened their wine tasting area for our private group visiting on a girl's trip. The owners were very welcoming (as was their sweet golden retriever) and helped us coordinate lunch during our visit- even picked up our order for us to make it convenient. Their wines were very good, better than we were expecting and reasonably priced relative to other vineyards! The tasting was laid back, social and fun. Many of us enjoyed the wine so much we purchased bottles and look forward to enjoying their wine while back home. If you are in the San Diego area Bastian's is a must do for wine tasting! read more
