Had a great afternoon enjoying the stunning views at this winery. We arrived around 4pm on a Saturday and the main tables were completely full (aka the ones with food service) so we grabbed glasses of wine and walked up the path to the hilltop to enjoy the views and the wine. This is a beautiful venue with a main area with food and drinks and then several offshoot areas with tables for you to seat yourselves. The owner was present and let us know why it's named Speckle Rock (the soil composition) and was lovely to speak with. Will definitely be back on a quieter day to get a table and enjoy some food with the spectacular views and crisp wine! read more

After an afternoon of hiking on the coast, we headed up here to check out this winery. Hidden in the hills of Escondido along with other wineries in the area this place was a great reward and an opportunity to enjoy the rest of the afternoon. The entrance is really pretty with a gorgeous pond/mini lake at the entrance. We parked and made our way up to the winery. When we entered the tasting room, we were greeted and provided with a lot of information about the wines they produce. We decided to try one of their newer wines called Falanghina. A very light and refreshing wine with notes of apple, lime, pineapple, and we really enjoyed this bottle. While you are drinking your wine the views are absolutely epic of the whole valley below. The surrounding hills were covered in green since it was spring and it was very relaxing and peaceful there. I look forward to returning here again in the future to try more of their wines. read more

This one is longer than most reviews but, you come for the info, right? Good things first, the views! Just wow. Once you order your drinks and get to the seating area, the view of the valley below is beautiful. Starting with the drive and hunt to the winery. I was fortunate enough to be passenger in a convertible on a very sunny day which added to the experience. The road meanders through the hills of Escondido. I had no idea it was such a beautiful area. Lots of green and the homes vary from cute hillside bungalows to palatial estates complete with family names as you enter! Once you arrive at Speckle Rock Winery, there's either a dirt parking to the right and a few paved spaces to the left next to some portable restrooms and a small outdoor patio. Don't worry, there's a "real" unisex restroom in the tasting room. It's clean too! We visited on a Friday maybe around 2:00 pm and it wasn't busy at all. Like some wineries, there was a big friendly dog that saw us coming and appeared to run to alert the owners of our arrival! So charming (keep the dog). The tasting room is a bit simple compared to other wineries. That's not to detract from the experience Just thought I should mention it. But what catches your eye almost immediately is the view of the valley even from inside the tasting room. Maybe the simple tasting room is the point to get you out to where the beauty is. By the way, don't forget to grab a bottle of complimentary water and cups on your way outside. Sadly I don't recall what was ordered for me but I do know it was sparkling. The wine had kind of a peachy warm color to it. Wasn't too sweet nor dry. $12 for a glass of the "peachy-sparkling-stuff" Now back to the views. The entire seating area spanned the edge of the vineyard's downward slope. In the distance you can see the road we drove up on. It disappeared and reappeared its way through the hills. There were neat quilt-like squares of varying shades of green parcels of land contrasted by wild fields of grass and boulders. The vineyard grounds itself could use some TLC. And maybe more signage. As you stand at the edge of the seating area, there's a questionable barrier between you and the slope below. It's more of a cue to stay back! Just feet away are grapevines with way too many weeds growing around up them. BUT, to be honest, the rest of the view makes up for this. I could imagine, however, how much more beautiful it would be with a bit more attention to detail to the vineyard's hillside below and behind the main areas. There's some kind of dirt slope behind the seating area that is a bit precarious. No sign that says where it goes or whether you should stay off altogether. Of course, I went up. It was a short walk to the top near the dirt parking area. Nice faux turf and a small tree to sit and look at the other side of the valley--more of the homes I mentioned. But there is also a small seating area on the opposite side that unless you've been before, you wouldn't know they were there. In fact, I missed it when we parked! Same goes for the gazebo that is visible from the main seating area. Is it for guests is it off limits? Vineyard owners: more signage, please. In all, go for the great views. To pet the giant dog and have a glass (or two) to enjoy it all. read more

Speckle rock has a really unique setup and is built on the side of the mountain overlooking the Escondido farm land and the mountains surrounding the nearby wild animal park. They have a decent selection of wines but only have food options from local food trucks. The winery is further down the road than most places in the area so I would recommend making this an earlier stop (and be sure to call ahead for a reservation) if you are looking to stop by multiple wineries in the area. read more

This is such a great winery. They are the last winery on the drive through the Highland Valley region, but definitely worth seeking out. The service is super friendly and very knowledgeable about the wines they are pouring. Once you have your wine, head outside for the best view of valley ever! It's an absolutely breathtaking view. The wines that I've tried have all been outstanding, so when I visit it's actually a little hard to pick, but my favorites are the Sangiovese/Merlot blend, and their Celebration blend. It's been a while since we've been back and we came this time with a birthday party of about 20 folks. Since we got there pretty close to open we were able to get a few tables together easily for our group. You order at the counter and get your drink which was nice for a big group so you don't have to worry about split checks. The views here have still got to be some of the best in the region. All of the outdoor seating has a view. Pretty limited indoor seating. We brought our pup and they were so friendly. They had water bowls and snacks available. For wine I tried a red blend and a Pinot noir before committing to a glass of the red blend. They have mostly reds but they are apparently known for their white falanghina. They also had a wine cocktail and sangria available if you like sweeter drinks. read more

Speckle Rock Vineyards is a winery located in the Escondido area of northern San Diego. They offer tasting rooms, vineyard tours, and even host weddings! We stopped by for their tasting which was 4 wines for $20. The good thing was that we could choose which wines we wanted to try from their list of offerings. Of the ones that I chose my favorites were the falanghina and the sauvignon blanc. After we got our tasting pours, we sat in the back and soaked in the amazing views of the canyon. There was plenty of space and tables in the back to host big parties. When we were here there was also a food vendor and live music. Great experience! Such a cute little mom and pop vibe type of place. Tomi was super helpful and knowledgeable. This place offers blankets for you during cold winter nights and let me tell you, at first I was hesitant and declined but then we ended up getting one and let me say, it was a must and made the night more enjoyable while gazing over the hillsides and looking at the stars. The biggest take away, I found a new wine that has become my all time favorite. Lynage is a port wine with hints of brown sugar, smoky maple and sea salt caramel notes. I can't wait to return for their live music and definitely need to come earlier as we came within the hour they were closing. read more

One of our go to if not our favorite winery in Escondido. They have a large seating area for both large and small groups. In the shade and in the sun. They don't serve food but you're allowed to bring in your own.. Sometimes they have food trucks outside - but these days it's more rare. On Saturdays they usually have live music (a one man band) Their selection of reds is great. The: - Signature Blend - Estate Petite syrah - Tempranillo Are some my favorites. They also offer wine slushies for those hot summer days. They have lots of parking throughout their property. The staff is friendly and helpful. Everyone that knows me in non- Yelp world knows that I HATE DRIVING. And this drive up is a bit twisty turny , but totally worth it. This family-run spot used to be an avocado farm, but after the fires, they turned it into a peaceful vineyard retreat. (Although, they still have some avocado trees, and they give those avocados away in crates by the door. A thoughtful little parting gift as you leave.) The setting is gorgeous, dog-friendly, and super relaxing. We brought snacks from Albertsons (that's the closest grocery store) and spent the afternoon enjoying the sunshine, live acoustic music, and light, refreshing wines (including bubbles!). Some days they have a food vendor, and there are prepackaged snacks available too. They offer property tours, have a wine club, and seem to be expanding. Hopefully that means a second bathroom, since there's only one right now and it can lead to a bit of a wait. Probably the most gorgeous of views i've seen at any of the other Escondido wineries i've been too! The seating was so comfortable and the ambience was incredible!! We came here on a Saturday around 1 pm with a group of friends. My husband and I had a wine flight followed by 3 glasses of their Celebration red blend. That wine was the one from the flight we enjoyed the most. Our friend was having the Pinot Noir which was also good. The views in this place are amazing. What a find! We wanted to try a new winery on Highland Valley Rd. and drove further from 15. It was well worth another few minutes drive passing other popular wineries in the area. It's one of a few wineries that are open after 6:00 on the weekends on Highland Valley. The 180 degree valley view was spectacular! It was calming and relaxing although this might not be the place for those who would want the vineyard view. The rock was definitely unique. Plenty of seating facing the view. Lots of parking, Picnic area. Outside food seems to be allowed. To me, this winery had one of the most decent and drinkable wines among others in the area so far. The white wine, Falanghina, was sweet and good, no wonder it received Double Gold. We loved it! Other wines we tasted in the tasting were all good. Their tasting is $20 for 4 tastings, generously poured. After the first visit, Speckle Rock was added to the list of our favorite vineyards in Escondido/Highland Valley. We'll be back! read more

Sparkle rock ended up being such a find. I honestly had never heard of it before when it comes to Escondido wineries, but it is such a hidden gem. You definitely have to drive a bit from the freeway but it will be worth it once you get up there. They were really kind and accommodating for my group of 12 people because we needed an indoor space with the rain. They have two options for the indoor area, they have a larger tasting room that can probably accommodate up to 20 people, and then there are smaller tables right near where they are pouring the wine. I think the biggest attraction here is the outdoor area with the views. They do have blankets for when it gets really cold out which is nice. We came on a cloudy day, but I could only imagine how beautiful it would be with the sun out or during sunset time. Plenty of outdoor seating and umbrellas as well. We had a great experience here and I can't wait to go back. It will definitely be one of my go to when we have people visiting from out of town. read more

This place is so adorable! As a new 21 year old, my family took my grandma and I out too this winery to try something new. I will have to say this is a great place for you to have a romantic time with your partner or a relaxing afternoon with a group of friends/family! I got a sparkling wine for my first and a Rosé for my second and that one was my favorite! So tasty and smooth if you can't handle wine taste that much you can really enjoy this! The people here were sweet and welcoming, the hostess, Sophie, greeted us with a smile. The women at the counter, was sweet and made sure the wine was comfortable for us to enjoy. The glass is turf which is good because it's simple walking and comfort. There is a place where you can walk around and enjoy a Gazebo. The property is long and bowling-alley shaped, which means each table gets a hearty slice of the view to the valley center below. On our last visit, we found a comfy outdoor couch right in time for sunset over the valley. To sip, we enjoyed the sangiovese wine and a fruity, light cocktail called the Summer Breeze. It was our second winery of the night (after Cordiano's for their delicious pizza) and a wonderful way to wrap up a visit with our guests. This was my first visit to Speckle Rock Vineyards. I intend to visit all of the vineyards at some point on Highland Valley wine trail. The name speaks for itself, the winery is surrounded by rocks and boulders with the gorgeous view on the back patio. The grounds are sprawling and spread out, there are multiple seating areas in the front of the winery, all very private. The back patio has live music on the weekend. For the life of me i can't recall the names of the wines we ordered (chardonnay and rose) , but both were very smooth and easy to drink on a crisp sunny winter day. We didn't get to spend enough time there as the sun was going down and our gazebo didn't have a heater otherwise we would stay longer. I don't recall seeing any food, perhaps they offer some charcuterie boards. read more

Great vineyard in the Highland Valley area of Escondido. A girlfriend of mine was hosting a bridal shower here for her daughter. The vineyards doesn't offer food, however you are able to bring your own. We brought a buffet of food, only challenge is getting it to the area that you are sitting. It's very hilly to get on the property then you have to carry everything yourself to your designated location. It would be great if they were to invest in a cart to help their patrons as they do not help you carry anything nor to do they ask. The view over looking the valley of Escondido was absolutely stunning, but do note it is deep in the valley. The wine was amazing. I had a speckakur strawberry which is their Rosa sparkling wine with strawberry lemonade. Only downside of this, this particular wine is only on tap and you can't buy it. There was another specialty drink that they had thst I wanted to buy, but of course, they were out. Fun place to go, but becareful on how much you drink as the path back to Escondido is a very curvy one. read more

I came here with friends today and we had a really great time until we had to settle up with the food vendor. We had a large group and the place was really accommodating with allowing us to enjoy the amazing views and wine. The food was good but the cook was visibly frazzled and his payment system wasn't working right some of the time so half of our group settled up at the end while half paid when they ordered. Even though we had proof that one of the tickets had been paid the vendor refused to look at our proof and accept that he over charged us. Occasionally there is a food truck and live music. I like this winery because 1) the wine is good 2) its a beautiful atmosphere with a view and lake When visiting this winery, if you desire there are several others on this same road.
