Great outdoor space

Love this winery! It's quaint and has some great varietal wines using local grapes, such as the Viognier I had, which the winemaker said was from grapes grown in valley center, which is nearby to San Diego and I love the space!

My daughter had her wedding here. I can't even express how amazing and perfect it turned out. Not one thing went wrong. It was beautiful. I keep getting texts from people telling me it was the best wedding with the best food that they've ever been to. My husband just told me that he doesn't even need to look at any photos because the memories are enough.

This lovely winery is a hidden gem, tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood in Escondido, they have several excellent wines to choose from. The service was good and they were very attentive, I really enjoyed the 5150 Cabernet and the dessert port. We also paired our wine with a nice Mediterranean charcuterie board that was delicious. We will definitely be back.

Hidden in Escondido, a great little winery. Good selection of wine, live music on Saturdays. Good vibes. The owners are so friendly and it was nice talking to them. It could benefit from having some food: bread and small charcuteries - it would make wine tasting better and definitely help.

We had an amazing time here for our work Xmas party! They also have beer here too which was nice for the ones not really feeling the wine but there for the party. The only thing I wish the venue would have provided or suggested is things to help keep the food warmer for a longer period of time. I'm pretty mg bougie boss would have paid for it for the party he would have been willing to spend the extra money for that. Who knows maybe he didn't think of that. It's super rustic here and the wine was great! After the party later at work a coworker said there was wine tasting and that's something that should have been marketed better and made known to guests because I seen a little room but it looked like they were just selling bottles in there. We had a great time and it was kinda cold in the shed.

Hey, Incase no one noticed but we are in a Pandemic. Yet, we need to get out for small social interaction, life enrichment and fresh air. This particular Saturday was World Mental Health Day, and yes, this applies to all of us. Forgotten Barrel came to mind as a local urban winery. They were only open for pick up for six hours out of the week and just opened up at reduced capacity on their quaint yet broad property. One can make a reservation for a table for $40 and the monies are applied to any bottle, glass or food purchases from the tasting room. When I worked in in wine education, sales and events for a local vineyard and winery we would taste at places at no cost. We came here when Ferrar Winery was in this residential neighborhood, it was strange and funny being in a residential neighborhood. But with a completely revamped plan, the Forgotten Barrel is a perfect wedding site, with lawn for ceremony, barn for reception. There is also ample outdoor space for workshops and events of all sorts in a covered space. And plenty of spaces on weekends to lounge for all. There are Adirondack chairs, tables that hold your wine glasses in slots spread around the property and perfect for 6 ft distancing. I first enjoyed their Pinot Noir at the New Village Arts Center in Carlsbad at a play. They source their grapes from the best places in the state. The soil where certain varietals grow matter. We came to celebrate World Mental Health Day and had to go with the area 5150 to celebrate life. We had to order a charcuterie, as this power combo is so fulfilling. Then a bottle to take home when the mood moves us. The service here is solid, the wine is some of our favorite for a San Diego winery and the grounds offer opportunity to explore some history. Did I mention, it is also dog friendly. Our wine server brought our fur babe water. There were about seven other parties enjoying the day. We are so happy that Forgotten Barrel is almost in our back yard and plan to spend more time with them, Pandemic or Not! Thanks for a perfect day out, I encourage adding small workshops on weekdays here too. There is so much potential. #Escondido #UrbanWinery #ForgottenBarrel #EventCenter #Area5150RedWine

You can't bring in outside food or drinks but they have snacks for purchase! They even provide plates and cheese knives.

We really enjoy coming to The Forgotten Barrel. It's a nice place to hang out and relax with some good wine. They often have live entertainment and food trucks. I do wish they had more of a selection for food choices since you can't bring in outside food. The sangria is delicious and you can't go wrong with good wine.

Beautiful and charming and cozy and lovely. Went last night for the first time tagging along with a friend who told me there is as a free opera concert (freebie, yes!) And we should go. Located in a residential neighborhood I would have never guess or think about going there if it wasn't for this invitation. This used to be the Ferrara winery dating back late 1800s and now under new owners and with a modern twist without losing the old trees (very old ones, the stories they can tell!) And the mural depicting some fun character. I liked everything, every corner of this small winery and with the music and the summer orange and cloudy skies, what a jewel.

Can I make a same-day reservation on Tock, or should I do it at least one to two days before?

I would do at least one day before just to be on the safe side.

If I make a reservation for a tasting, can I choose any 3 wines on the menu?

Yes!

Is this tasting room dog friendly?

Yes, as long as they're on a leash and stay out in our courtyard area!

Do they have a food menu already?

We have food that pairs well with wine for purchase in our tasting room. Cheeses, meat, hummus, olives, chocolate, and such. Occasionally we have food trucks too! No outside… Read more

We easily found parking in their complimentary lot. Ambiance (4.5/5): This is one of the things that make wineries great... the scenic views. While they have a tasting room inside, your best option is to sit outside on the small yet charming patio. The best part is that you'll enjoy the mountains in the background as you sip on your vino. Service (4.5/5): We ordered a bottle of wine about 10 minutes before close. One of the owners was nice enough to allow us to stay outside on the patio way past closing time. He said we could stay as long as we wanted. That's the type of service you rarely see at drinking holes these days. Food (N/A): They had various snacks to purchase and you can also add chocolates with wine flights but we were on a liquid diet. Drinks (4/5): If you're interested in doing a wine tasting, they have both a red and white option. The prices are affordable (especially by California standards) for both flights and if you'd like to purchase bottles of wine for enjoying there or to take home. I did the red flight. They serve it to you on a cutting board of sorts with a piece of paper giving you a short description of each wine. From there, we had a bottle of sauvignon blanc. I didn't take any wine home, but you can get a discount if you buy in bulk. One last thing that made Belle Marie an awesome winery is that it was one of the few open on a Tuesday in the area. A lot of them are open on the weekends only or Wednesday-Sunday or Thursday-Sunday. Belle Marie delivered on the only day we could stop by. For that, I'm grateful!

As for the wine, the flights were limited to just a choice of all-white or all-red. I got the red flight and was hoping for some bolder flavors, but perhaps they are better known for their whites? We had specifically joined the wine club because we really enjoyed their white wines, which is unusual for us as we're more "big red" drinkers. However, on this visit the tastings were primarily reds. We were told that they will be releasing a few more whites as we get closer to summer. Their large patio, with umbrella/roof-covered tables, offers beautiful vineyard and surrounding mountain views. They also have live music, but it's best to check their website calendar as to who/when. WINES: We shared a Red and Reserve flight, but we did ask to try the new 2024 Estate Mélange Blanc (58% Pinot Gris, 42% Viognier) which was one of our favorites. The wines are well-made, and they offer a nice selection of varietals, so you should be able to find something you like. We brought in some hummus & pita bread to munch on during our tasting, but they do sell a few snack items as well. We ordered two 4oz Beehive Cheese blocks ($8.50/ea.), which were a nice addition to the tastings. If you haven't been here before, I recommend you give them a try. They do take walk-ins, but reservations are recommended.

It's a very laidback, super relaxing winery that is in definite contrast to a few of the bigger more boisterous places in the area. Ron and Kelly are warm and welcoming, and very knowledgeable about wine. Their property has lots of tables and chairs outside with a decent amount of shade, which for me is a must, because my Irish skin cannot tolerate the San Diego sun. They are also very dog friendly, and usually have their own dog, Jade, acting a "greeter" when you arrive. How is the wine? Very well-thought out. I've never had less than an excellent glass of their wine every time we visit. My husband and I never leave without at least one bottle every time we visit. They are definitely worth the long and windy drive to find them.

This family-owned, boutique winery has created a rustic tasting experience on their outdoor patio overlooking the vineyards and surrounding hillsides. It seemed like most of the patronage were regulars. It's very dog, friendly, however, the dogs ran all over the place and begged at each table for anybody that had food. I'm fine with dogs but owners need to keep them in line just like when bringing your children to a winery. Charcuterie trays were available for purchase ($18) and made a nice accompaniment to the wines. There was live music during our visit which was a nice addition to the ambiance. WINES: Owners/winemakers, Ron & Kelly Bas, have been in the wine-making business for over 20 years and were wonderful hosts. Their estate grape varietals include Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. They also purchase Cab Franc, Merlot, and other varietals. They are currently pouring 2022/2023 vintages of their reds. IMO, the wines were on the lighter side for our palates and seemed to already have some age to them. We were fortunate to taste Ron's soon to be released Viognier, which was excellent. Overall, a nice experience, but I could have done without all the dog commotion.
