I discovered this winery after visiting a few off of Highland Valley Road & seeing this one on a Escondido Winery map. Off of the 78. It is gorgeous! Outdoor patio is huge with plenty of shaded tables & a few lounge seats in the back. They also had a Mexican food truck when we came last Friday. We had been wanting to try this winery for awhile and finally made it yesterday. What a hidden gem. The wines and the property are phenomimal and our experience was fantastic. The wines are really good, smooth. We had the Syrah "Walk the Line" it was amazing. When we got home we opened up two different Syrah's from local wineries and did a blind taste test, Cheval's Syrah definatley won, hands down! We will definately be going back there. Super dog friendly AND human friendly. The Staff is very friendly and nice. I personally enjoy their sauvignon blank, "Melody Zapper". The winery owner is also a champion horse & alpaca owner that you get to see them in the same property. They do weekly? Or monthly? event and live performances during the weekends. What a beautiful atmosphere! It was a gorgeous, sunny day in Escondido and the wine was good...however...the wine was SO expensive and a $15 tasting of 4 wines was a ridiculous, minuscule pour! The bottles started at $57. Everyone around us was so posh, we felt completely unwelcome. Of note, we received a warm welcome from the goats, dog, horses and lamas. read more

Who knew such a fun, clean , neat winery was in Escondido ? We visited and did a wine tasting. The wines were all delicious. We enjoyed all of them especially Walk The Line , and CASH champagne. The owner Bubba was on site and made us feel like we were old friends. See takes pride in her winery, the products and the facilities. I had never heard of this winery until yesterday. We came here for the country line dancing and...wine! The winery is located in a unique location of Escondido. Driving in at night it was difficult to know exactly where we were at but that means a day trip is needed. The winery building/house/villa was beautiful with a nice big open area. The wine is very pricey. We got a bottle of Maverick and it was absolutely amazing. Smooth and silky with a nice finish. Not too fruity or peppery. The line dancing was fun to watch and maybe next time I'll jump out there. Looking forward to coming back here to try the other wines. But for now, Maverick is thumbs up and fist bumps!! read more

I am looking forward to getting back to Cheval Winery here as soon as possible. This is what I want in a craft winery. They have some great happy hour stuff going on, a fantastic space, not huge, but a great view and a great area to lounge about. The wine was tasty, and I am not a huge wine person, but I am getting there. I particularly liked the new champagne they had chilled on my recent visit. Something awesome about chilling with a nice bottle of bubbles outside with a great view of the vines and horses. read more

I debated writing a review because I'd like to keep this gem to myself. It is literally an 8 minute drive from my house but seems like a world away. The property is beautiful, the people are warm and inviting, views are perfect and the wine is delicious. This winery is truly a hidden gem in Northern San Diego County! We stayed at the Villa located above the wine tasting room. Beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bath with a full kitchen and living area. Outdoor patio is equipped with a fireplace, tv, outdoor seating, and exceptional views of the vineyard. We thoroughly enjoyed being there and it was the perfect "staycation" we needed during the quarantine. Along with its amazing views and delicious wines, there are horses, alpacas, and goats on the property making this winery one of a kind! We went to Cheval for Happy Hour after work a few weeks back and had a great time! The wine was good, we could walk around and see the animals and the line dancing was a total hit! We didn't expect to stay so long, but had a hard time leaving! The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because the wine is pretty expensive. Their happy hour pricing isn't much of a deal and is only on a few wines (of course the wine we didn't like) and they don't give happy hour pricing on the bottles. So at about $40 a bottle for Sauv Blanc, that gets spendy. read more

Beautiful winery on the smaller side. Great outdoor area. Friendly staff. They even have line dancing lessons on the patio on Friday nights!!! The wines are quite tasty. Four stars because the wines are just too darn pricey. They are about $20-30 more per bottle than you would find at their competitors (even more than Napa and Paso Robles). I spent $67 with tax on one bottle. Otherwise I would have given it five stars. I'll definitely be back, but not as frequently as I would want! :) read more

I was looking for a place where I can do line dancing close to home. I found this place on FB and the best part is, it's also a winery. I love wine so I invited my friends to join me. We had so much fun and we loved the owner Bubba. She's very friendly and really accommodating. The whole staff are all friendly and the venue with a vineyard view added to the 4 stars of my review. I previously posted a negative review due to a mishap with the winery closing early despite my calling ahead to see if they were open. The next morning I received a positive and apologetic text message from Lisa Kelley who invited us to a barrel tasting as her guest. Although my initial interaction with Cheval was less than positive, this interaction was excellent. This winery is a real gem with a nice boutique winery feel. Almost all wines are estate grown and they are excellent. The Rose and the Sangiovese were my favorite. The atmosphere is wonderful and is the only thing like it on the west side of Escondido. The bottle prices are higher than most but considering their small production numbers it is understandable. They are kid and dog friendly as well. I highly recommend and I WILL be back. We had our rehearsal dinner here on a Fri night. The surroundings were so beautiful! I love the fire tables. It turned out to be an amazing night, but leading up to it was very frustrating as they were unorganized and very hard to get a hold of. We were coming in from out of state so calling and emailing were the only options. Finally, Ally became the point person and things began to get easier. Hopefully, they'll get better with event rentals, because their location is beautiful and has a very relaxing vibe. When I'm in town this will be a must visit. read more

Their wine selection was fabulous and we even had some entertainment learning line dancing which was a big hit with our friends.
