Having been born in San Francisco probably makes it an automatic disqualifier for me to be any kind of angler, hunter, archer or other type of sports-person though I've dabbled in all. Surfing is my outlet. But I know that were I a true Texas sports-person, I'd feel I'd died and gone to heaven walking through this mega-outdoors store. As soon as I opened the huge custom doors, I felt like Indianna Jones watching his Ark being wheeled into a mammoth government warehouse of secrets. Everything you could possibly want for your outdoors adventure is right here. With a waterfall, fresh water aquarium, cafe and shooting ranges, even a partial listing of their inventory would bore the average Yelp reader so I won't even try. To add to the "kid in a candy store" feel, they also offer free family summer camp workshops in archery, fishing, shooting & hunting, bird watching, camping, water safety, wildlife exploration and conservation. As a surfer though, what struck me, as apparent as Indy's fear of snakes, was what drives fear into any surfer, a huge Great White shark. Yes, they have one, preserved for all to gawk at, a 27', 5,500lb beast caught with 130lb test line. The mouth of this shark could swallow me and my board whole. But when it comes to catching the best waves, I live a "see no evil" attitude. If it wants me, there's little I can do. C'est la vie. That's like going up against a Grizzly with a BB gun. Expect to be eaten. (ironically, I would've wished to see the beast released) I made the mistake of taking my brother through the store and, as a water-skier, he got emotionally lost amid all the ski-boats and I missed my flight home. Gary helped us beyond perfection. I don't fish. I grew up on lake grapevine but I will forever live in large cities and don't even really care to fish. My grandfather likes fishing. I thought," hey, he's old I'll take him fishing while i visit. " we walk into the bass pro and start staring at stuff with only an inkling of what to do until we walk over to Gary. Gary helps us find the exact equipment we needed,even though we were planning on buying more, and proceeds to tell us how to use it on lake grapevine. later that day(today) we reel in 3 Sand Bass, pretty big sized, and call it quits early. Thank you Gary. You saved us time, money, and we probably wouldn't have caught anything without your advice. You made it more than worth the visit. This is pretty much just for their fishing department. I didn't have enough time to go explore the whole store. I do need to go back for look see at their gun department/shooting range. I have to say as much fishing gear that they have it's friggin neat as hell. I got me some artificial baits and some new sunglasses. I was so overwhelmed at all the different types of poles that they had. I was so tempted to buy a new tackle box after noticing its size and comparing it to one I saw at Wal-Mart. Maybe next time. My bro on the other hand went for the nightcrawlers and he too got some new sunglasses. Unfortunately, me and my bro invest in cheap sunglasses because our expensive ones either go missing or they get bent and broke. Doh! My bro also had to get his fishing license here before we hit the lake so it's pretty convenient and close to Lake Grapevine. Did you know that a REAL Texas Drivers License doesn't have the dot in "i" in word "Directive" on the back? The chick hooking it up with the fishing licenses up at the Customer Relations desk was looking at my bro's license all kinda funny so we were thinking what the heck is up with her when she was eying his license. So I'm sure they have Bass Pro Shops in Cali. I am...but have I gone to one? No. But in the spirit of being in Texas, I wandered in here because it was a few (very sunny and very hot) steps from my hotel. I was greeted by a blast of air conditioning and about a dozed body-less deer. As I proceeded to walk around the friendly staff kept asking if I needed any help. If it was because I looked wide-eyed and lost, it was probably because I was. Giant fish tank, creek running under a bridge in the store, and EVERY animal ever...taxidermy style. The only place I have seen with more animals full of fluff was the Smithsonian. Though I was snapping pictures of dead animals like someone from another planet, I did notice that the is probably not a single hunting tool, camping gadget, or other outdoorsy thing in existence that you couldn't find at this Bass Pro Shop. They do also have a great selection of weapons and camping gear, along with fishing gear. And kids love their large aquarium (well, so do I, actually.) I can't say I'm the biggest outdoors type of guy but I really do love this store. I mean they make everything look so great and just so inviting. I walk past the aisles of hunting gear and camouflage and I think man I need a gun and some gear so I can get out there and shoot something. Thankfully I don't always impulse buy or the hunting world could be in a world of hurt if I showed up. The people that work at this store are more then willing to help you out in whatever way possible regardless of what your expertise may be. They seem to always be able to point in you in right direction of everything it is you would need based on your level of expertise. I find it very reassuring that you don't get that attitude like hey son I don't think you belong in this store and your beyond help sonny. I looked for some fishing gear and the gentleman walked around with me for about 20 minutes telling me about all the different types of rods & reels. I just felt like a young son listening to his dad who was just filling his mind with so much useful information. I can't say enough about how great it is to walk around this store and to find so many great employees willing to teach you a thing or to about where it is your trying to go to. The service is always friendly and just a great feeling knowing that someone is around the corner ready to assist me in anyway possible. I don't think that makes me Mr. Outdoors but at least I have what I need to get there and the rest is on me. read more

This is a great place. The fish tank is amazing. I wish their prices were a bit better, but it doesn't disappoint.

This is a mega-outdoors adventure super store. Everything for just about any sport you can think that's outdoors, with an emphasis on fishing and hunting. This place is big big BIG. Huge gun selection, as well as a firearm collector's section in a secured upstairs area. Plus an indoor firing range, but get there early as spots fill up fast. Oh, and a huge ammo selection with I believe every caliber made. I like to peruse the aisles and see all the varied equipment that's available that I didn't even knew existed. The prices seem a tad below retail to full retail, so this place isn't known as a discounter, but the quality of goods is well-above what you'd find at a competing discount outdoor sporting goods supplier. If you're in the Grapevine area, you should stop in and check it out. This is a pretty expansive store and it's entertaining and educational to see how they merchandise such a huge selection of goods. There's a little restaurant inside as well so you can pick up lunch while you're there (although I've never tried their food, so I can't recommend anything). read more

First time ever going to a Bass Pro Shop and will be the last time! Horrible experience. I was looking for some shoes and I waited forever in the shoe section for some help. I finally ask an employee if they worked in this section and they no but they would call someone to help. The employee advised me that help is on the way. I waited and I waited and almost 20 mins passed since the female employee called for help. Finally 30 mins later someone showed up after I asked another employee for some help and he called someone to help in the shoe section, I figured any employee could work in any section but nope. I was able to get the shoes I wanted. Then I had to use the bathroom and the bathrooms are very small and narrow. I had my son with me and just trying to get a stroller in there is very hard. read more

Stuck with a $500 unusable firearm. The worst place to buy a firearm. I purchased a new shotgun. After a couple of weeks I took it for a test run  just to find out that the ammo is not feeding into the chamber. Returned the shotgun to Bass Pro Shop. Three sales people behind the counter tried but couldn't get it to work either. They decided to sent the firearm back for repair. After multiple attempts via phone and in person to find out the status of the shotgun it finally returned to Bass Pro Shop almost 2 month later. Before leaving the store I requested to check the gun. Surprise .....it was NOT repaired. After a complaining to one of the managers I was told to return the following day to meet with a sales person who would be able to buy back the gun. This is was the 6th time that I'm driving back to the store just to find out that person that was suppose to buy back the gun and the manager refused. I'm very surprised how big is this place. Mega. Period. This makes sense that everything is big in Texas. Huge selections of guns, riffles, and bullets that you can touch and hold. Wide selections of everything that you need for camping, sports, and outdoor activities. I enjoyed all sorts of animals and ducks I saw in here. People are smiling and happy. This review is for both the store and the gun range. I have bought a knife here that I still carry to this day, a bunch of ammo, fishing and camping gear. Never had a problem with their staff or really anybody that works there. The gun range we have been to once. My wife and I got to try out their 95 yard rifle tube that is under the building. Very Cool... Plus its much cheaper than most of the ranges that can handle 100 yards. After the rifle my wife and I went up and shot a few rounds at the gun range. They have a range with probably 6 or 7 lanes and the targets go out to 25 yards. They provided us with targets for both the pistol and rifle range as part of the cost. Again, the pistol range is much cheaper than many other places we have gone to. We will be going back here many times. read more

As a big fan of Cabela's, I had some time to kill before lunch and decided to visit Bass Pro Shops, which I have been told is just as good or better. When I went inside, it was a ghost town. Unnaturally dimly lit, and it almost seemed like employees were hiding from customers. I passed a few, who looked away and went back somewhere in the darkness. The prices I saw were high, and overall I was not a fan of the dark, almost spooky atmosphere. That being said, it was sort of like a haunted, abandoned Cabela's, and I do like Cabela's, so 3 stars for that. read more

Activities hot chocolate cookies etc 5:30-7:30 five minutes past 5 they said no more pictures "they're booked" walk in 5:07 no more hot chocolate. "Don't you like to travel?" I said "no" and as I was walking away she said something to her coworker under her breath and they started laughing. I gave 2 stars for selection but would give a solid 1 or no stars for price. They are quite simply higher on almost everything they sale. I was in there yesterday and was very close to buying a new rod and reel combo. Told the dude to hook it up and magically the combo I wanted to buy didn't allow for a heavy rod on their discounted combo and since I throw deps 175 and 250 this dog wasn't going to hunt. This was even their own store brand and wouldn't even make a concession. I then thought about just buying the revo toro beast reel for 399.99 but something told me to cross check the price on Amazon and sure enough, 25% cheaper on Amazon. Net result was I'm going to get the reel by Wednesday and I have 125 more in my pocket. I also find it odd that most fish stop biting by 9 or 10am and these fools don't open until 10am. The other laughable matter is they don't even seem to sale minnows despite being less than a mile from the lake. Unless I need something right away I don't anticipate going back to BPS. They are taking the route of the local drug stores and gouging folks on price. read more

They are super courteous. I just love how guys at the front ask you to sign up for a credit card before they even say hello. They also like to make customers on a Saturday stand in a line with only 1 cashier because they have employee shortage. NONE of the employees at customer service desk are evenly remotely open to this feedback. I imagine they hear it all the time and have grown complacent. Don't bother going. Store panders to the keyboard warrior crowd wanting to buy guns that there is no ammo available for because of the stores ineffective limits on ammo purchases. You can't buy a scope or any sporting goods equipment kept behind the gun counter without taking a number and waiting behind 8-10 first time gun buyers panicked over some facebook post. The girls found clothes, gift items, and ALL SORTS of cooking supplies, and the men toured boats, watched a fishing demo, and thoroughly investigated the fishing equipment. This is true, of course of all Bass Pro Shops. I was really impressed with the employees in this store. We asked questions and got answers with smiles. I bought a grizzley tracker in nov of 2018. Noticed clicking noise coming from engine. Took it back to bass pro and they replaced prop. Put boat back in water. Same noise. Took back to bass pro they said operator error and not covered under warranty. Boat has less than 20 hrs on boat. Person at service desk is rude. Do not ever buy a boat as bass pro. They do not stand by the warranty and will sat operator error. I will buy a prodigy next time. Bass pro is a scam. read more
