Took me awhile to get over my resentment of Bass Pro Shop buying Cabela's. After a number of years' absence, I finally made a trek to their location in North Fort Worth. This latest excursion was starkly different from the last time I visited. The sales floor was full of merchandise, employees were readily available for assistance, and the check-out process was smooth sailing. I did need to ask an employee where to find athletic wear as I needed shorts for the gym. Not only did they answer my question, they walked me over to the appropriate area of the store. Most places nowdays simply point to where merchandise is located. Not Cabela's! What a great way to go above and beyond in customer service. Cabela's is an overrated, overpriced outdoor outfitter. Basically the Macy's of outdoor equipment. It has been about 6 years since I was last in this store. On my last trip the sales person was just a jerk so I didn't buy anything and haven't been back until today. I was looking for a particular firearm and there was one in stock, so I went today. I talked to a few salesmen today, and I admit there was one who was pretty good, but three out of four were just awful. I am not sure how they sell anything at this store. They were all very type A and condescending. One salesman just stared at me. Like for 90 seconds. I asked what was up and got no response. I asked him if he was ok and got no response. I asked him if there was a problem and he still said nothing. They can keep everything in that store. I will never go back, never buy anything online, and I will never recommend them to anyone. read more

I have never be treated so rudely at a Cabela's location as I was here. I am from El Paso and am embarrassed to leave this kind of a review, but it's the truth. My uncle and I were waiting in line at the firearms department. Staff members would walk by without even acknowledging we were there, until one of them heard me say how rude they were. Then he responded in a defensive manner stating they were busy. No need to stare the obvious. I responded by telling him the least he could have done was acknowledge we were there. It takes two seconds to greet someone with a smile, five seconds to let them know they would be with us as soon as possible. I think it's called having couth. Do better, Cabela's. read more

The location is great. The atmosphere is as desired. I absolutely love the live fish and the aquariums. The taxidermy exhibits are well cultivated and honestly more educational than a zoo. They carry almost anything you could need. Shopping here is always a great experience. read more

I had been going here for years. I used to live about a mile away a few years ago. Bought lots of stuff from Cabelas. The service here here has never been above and beyond. It's been mediocre at best. It's a great store to go into and look at everything. But when I would go back 10-15 years ago it was definitely more customer oriented. But being a shooter I would often mainly go to buy ammo or firearms. They folks that work behind the gun counters are absolutely the most uninformed people I have ever seen. With the exception of ONE employee I would deal with who was very knowledgeable. I could write pages of the idiotic comments I have seen the gun counters guys tell customers. Basically the ones I have had the unfortunate pleasure to deal with don't know a dang thing about the guns they sell. But it's not just that it's also the poor level of customer service. Not everyone is unfriendly but many really aren't pleasant to talk to at the gun counter. They treat you like you are bothering them if you ask to see something. So now I live about 25 miles away from Cabelas. So I wanted to drive out to pick up something if they had it. So I call and ask for the gun counter. I'm on hold for 10 or 15 minutes before someone at the gun counter picks up. I get an older gentleman by the sound of his voice. "Gun counter." Very irritable sounding. I ask if they have a gun in stock "Well....I will have to go look and see if we have it." And he sounded like I was legitimately bothering him. So he steps away for what must have been 10 minutes. When he comes back he says "Yeah." Well ok. I asked for the price on it "Well...ugh...I didn't look at the price. I thinks it's $450 or $500" Ok you THINK? You aren't professional enough to check? I then called to speak to a manager and got a voice mail. I left a message saying I was pretty offended and upset. Left my info. Never got a call back. Nothing. Super unprofessional. Ever since they merged with Bass Pro it's been really terrible service. I pretty much stopped shopping at both Cabelas and Bass Pro. It had been a while but thought I'd give them a shot. I'll never order anything or give them my business again. I'd rather deal with smaller companies who appreciate and value me as a customer. So be warned if you go to Cabelas the only person that will talk to you is the dude standing at the entrance trying to shove the Cabelas credit card down your throat. 0 out of 10. read more

My favorite "man store", although there is plenty here to interest the outdoorsy woman or child. I particularly like the gun library. Almost always worth a trip through, if just to see some historical artifacts. I'm not impressed that the bargain bin went away after they "merged" with Bass Pro. That was probably my favorite department before it was shut down. I could always find something to buy in there. Love this place but, when checking out I saw the sign that said 5% discount for military. At checkout I showed my Id and was told ammo is not included, sign does not say anything about exceptions on the discount. Love looking at the animals. A few years back we were picking up a family friend at DFW and I say the Cabela's sign and decided to make a side trip. Family asked where we were going I said the wild life animal park. My daughter asked if there were monkeys, I said maybe. As we got to the freeway exit my son says look there's Cabela's. My wife's head whipped so fast and looked at me and said that's where we are going. I replied, I never said the animals were alive. My daughter was pissed, our friend busted up laughing. I found the grill section and waited for 15-20 min for someone to notice us, while looking around for a sales associate. I finally found the one worker in the outdoor section and asked him for assistance. I asked him for a general explanation on the smoker. He barely knew what accessories I needed or how to Traeger worked. They didn't have any available In a box so we took the floor model which had a dent, so they gave me 5% off. The worker was friendly and was trying to help us, I just wish he would of been a little more knowledgeable. We came in to shop for a handgun on a Saturday, big mistake. The gun counter was severely understaffed and we gave up after an hour or so and decided to come back on Monday. There were fewer customers on Monday morning but fewer salespeople too. After waiting for over half an hour, we were finally helped by Jason, who came out from the Gun Library to help out. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful and he delivered a solid "save" for Cabela's. Sean gets high marks too, who finalized our handgun transaction and helped us pick out accessories. read more

PSA if you shop Cabela's, PLEASE READ... be aware that they are having a rash of car break-ins and car thefts. My son's truck was broken into last night in an attempt to steal. Assumption is that the "look out" saw them walking out and ran. Luckily the morons fled before grabbing the 2 hunting rifles in the backseat but not before causing thousands of dollars in damage, including tearing up the ignition so badly that we had to have it towed. The most frustrating part of all this was that the Cabela's manager shrugged it off like no big deal and was zero help. Both the employees and manager acted as if it was a daily thing and the police officer that responded (THREE HOURS LATER) confirmed that it pretty much is! The cameras in the parking lot DO NOT WORK and there is no security. Baffles me that a place that hunters frequent (with guns in their vehicles) wouldn't at least have a working camera! According to the FWPD officer that responded, they've attempted to reach out to Caleba's for assistance in catching these car thieves, such as asking them to fix the cameras, and Cabela's has been non-responsive to their request. Shame on you Cabela's! Time to take care of your customers that spend their hard earned $$$ in your store. read more

I called up Cabela's and asked if they could help out. They said "Sure bring it down" They took it back to their work bench, adjusted it, perfectly, came out and said "no charge" I was impressed and grateful!!! Today was my second trip to Cabela's in less then a week. I had ordered a Smith & Wesson EZ 380 for my daughter's birthday. When I received the email notifying me my order was delivered to the store I went to pick it up. That's when I had the opportunity to meet Bart and Roy at the Fort Worth Store. These two guys are well trained and all business but at the same time user friendly. Being a retired Field Operations Superintendent supervising many employees I found it refreshing to do business with two men that knew their stuff. I made the mistake of showing my wife the 380 and that's the reason for my second trip back to Cabela's. Like before I received an email telling me my gun was delivered to the store. We came in for the Cabela's club appreciation event and received a free gift and complementary food and drink in the conference room. What they offered was more like a dinner! We had buffalo chicken dip, chips and hamburger & cheese dips, finger foods and delicious desserts of cupcakes and cheesecake bites in multiple flavors. We didn't even need to buy our dinner that evening since the Cabela's staff took care of us during this visit. I love this place. Yes, I shop here sometimes, but the real reason I love to come here is to go to the zoo without the bugs, sun, rain etc. I mean, sure everything but the fish are dead.. But still. This is a really nice place over in West Fort Worth. I would say it has more selection then the one in Allen in that it seems like their gun choices are much more available then the Allen shop. This is where I purchased one of my favorite weapons because I couldn't find one anywhere else at the time. That being said, the location is convenient to get in and out easily. The staff was very knowledgable with their products. Can't really say anything negative. read more

Heaven on earth. I could get lost here for hours. I don't buy much here because I can usually find better deals other places, but you can definitely do a lot of research here and even find some great deals...especially in the bargain cave. They've got everything for your hunting and fishing needs, as well as power boating and kayaking. They've got a great collection of trophy animals all over the store as well as a great trophy deer room. Make sure you make it there at a time when they feed all their game fish in the aquarium. And make sure you grab a burger from upstairs. They've got beef of course but they also have all kinds of exotic meats such as elk, boar, bison, ostrich, and of course venison. They also have some bratwurst made with those meats as well as sandwiches and pizza. read more

The Central Market of hunting gear... let me explain. Going to a regular sporting goods store or department will provide you with your basic outdoor gear just like a regular grocery store will provide you with a basic assortment of food that typical people would ever want. Then you got these stores.. Going to stores like these (Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop) is not only a shopping experience, but a destination experience as well. At Cabela's, you'll see exotic stuffed animals (see pics), a gun museum, a shooting gallery for the kids (complete with talking animal heads), a general store (with homemade fudge) and an aquarium full of local fish. The biggest problem with a specialized place like this? The price. While you'll be able to find just about anything you need (this side of the internet), you'll also pay a premium for the convenience of them having it in stock (so prepare to pay). For people like myself, you'll probably just browse, play in the shooting gallery and get something to drink (geez... $1.99 for a small cup of tea?). But if you're into outdoorsy activities like (camping, hunting, fishing, etc.), you'll find a lot to love about this place. read more
