It was just a simple twist of fate that we sauntered through the front door on Opening Day in Tarrytown. The front of house & kitchen staff were extremely friendly & talented. If you want to travel to Spain, or longed to walk the Camino de Santiago, look no further. Ben, the owner hails from Ponferrada, Spain, and his home is on the Camino. The food here is authentic. We had mini hand made chorizo, shrimp in garlic, lamb, cheese and jamon and a few other dishes. All terrific. The best surprise was seeing Torte de Santiago and churros on the desert menu. Highly recommend. You can't have a bad time at either of the two locations as the owner and executive chef, Benny, has an excellent staff to match the outstanding food and ambiance. You will have to go back a few times just to go through the whole menu. Each time I try something different it becomes my new favorite. I've had just about everything on the Tapas menu and seriously love them all. If I had to pick my top they would be spicy filet mignon, grilled pulpo, sizzling baby squid, chorizo, fried artichoke hearts, sizzling shrimp, mussels, and fried Manchego cheese. The paellas are next level - I've had both seafood and meat versions but there is a veggie option as well. Our family loves Basque so much we had Benny cater a wedding here. The hostess treated us horribly . When we walked into the establishment she did not smile or greet us. She grabbed some menus and without telling us to follow she placed the menus on a table and walked back to her hostess podium. She then proceeded to pull out her phone leaving us to assume it was our table. I tried to ignore her rudeness but my daughters couldn't help but to express how awkward and unwelcome they felt. I've visited here before and had an amazing time with food and service, so decided to come again. We made sure to call ahead to check if their kitchen was open and asked for a reservation, the first time they hung up after asking if we could make a reservation. Then the second time we asked if the kitchen was still open and until what time. We left right after the call and arrived before the time they said and they had closed the kitchen early. This was an odd place from the moment I stepped in. They don't take reservations for under 6 ppl which is ok. It was busy so the waiter took our name ( party of 4) and said come back in 20-25 min. Fine so far but when we returned the waiter said come back in another 25min. I objected and said that is deceitful and how would I know that in 25min the table would actually be ready. He pretty much told me wait or go home. Out of respect for my wife and friends we waited....another 35 min. When the tapas came proportions were once again suspect. 3 lamb chops....for a party of 4. 3 bread apps. 9 anchiove apps. The cook must like 3s but it sure makes it hard to share. Additionally the dining area near the bar is way too noisy to enjoy your meal. Give this place 20- 25 months and check back if they have become customer centric. Otherwise, just stay away. Weekends are too precious to put up with this hassle. read more

Was driving through Piermont and saw this new(ish) place and stopped in with a friend for Saturday lunch. Had the mixed Iberico ham/cheese board, tortilla espanola, and pimientos de padron (blackened peppers with sea salt) with a glass of Rioja. All was pretty good (I can make a better tortilla, but whatever). I'd say the portions on the Iberico and cheese were a little skimpy for $24 (and while the "Iberica" board has sausage, ham, and pork loin, the mixed board only has the ham). Has a smallish, but decent and decently-priced wine list; generous pour on the Rioja. The music playing was some kind of annoying techno, but the bartender nicely changed it to Spanish guitar music when when requested (we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, since they had just opened). Since I've seen a lot of complaints about the music, patrons might want to just ask them to change it and perhaps with enough requests they'll quit the techno crap. Anyway, I wouldn't say this is a destination-type restaurant, but is a worthwhile addition to Piermont dining. read more

The place seems good, it's new, was at the bar last night with my wife waiting for a table talking with another couple last nigh (they do not take reservations for parties that are less than six), but enjoying the buzz and my drink. The couple has gotten there before us, and was talking to another couple who was eating at the bar. We had all been waiting a lot longer that what we had been told by the owner when we came in an out our name on the list. Anyway when the couple at the bar got up, they offered their seats to the couple they had been chatting with, but as they sat down, the bartender told them that the bar seats were reserved, they challenged him by saying you don't take reservations, and the bartender told her that they were friends of the owner. The couple went to the owner and her told them that the couple had been waiting 90 minutes, which was a lie, because I had seen them come in after the couple, them he dismisses said have a good night. That was really unbelievable, they paid their bar bill and left, saying that they would not be back. Now I hate that kind of behavior by an owner. He could have handled that in a dozen other ways that would have been very appropriate. That really killed it for us as well. I don't care how good the restaurant is, I will not give me business to owners that will blatantly lie. That brings into question their whole business ethic. read more

Situated on the north end of town in the previously Cafe Portofino space Basque created a nice and comfortable dining environment. The menu is diverse and authentic and appears to be using Spanish sources for many of the ingredients. Also appreciated is that the wine list is made up of very affordable wines and they have some nice off the radar Spanish beers as well. On the food alone Basque deserves a 4 or 5 star review, every dish was served promptly(great attentive woman server) and was delicious and plated nicely. The reasons for the 3 stars are the following: -The restaurant piped repetitive mind numbing "Techno" music the entire time we dined...it was painful. Spanish guitar or even some contemporary music from Spain would have been much appreciated. -A basket of what appeared to be fresh crusty country bread was served but when we picked it up it was not only not warm but was actually cold to the touch and perhaps came from the fridge because the crust was chewy and leathery. The owner should dine once in Buon Gusto in Closter to experience what hot, crusty and delicious bread is done like. -During our meal the waiter and bartender got into a loud debate about some sports event on the TV monitor over the bar, we actually could not continue our conversation till the two finished and walked off. -We came in around 6:30 and there were three other couples in the restaurant. By the time we finished desert it was close to 8pm and the restaurant filled up and just before leaving our same waiter was taking orders from the table next to us except now he had multiple "Specials" to recite that he did not tell us about...which we would have tried. We will definitely try Basque again but I hope the owner takes our criticisms to heart and addresses them, I'd like nothing more than to raise the review score. read more

This local spot in Piermont does not disappoint. I am a Paella snob make it myself and rarely are my expectations met when it comes to this dish at restaurants. I must say the steak Paella is the best I have ever had. The portions and tenderness of the steak is special. If you like garlic this is it and even the hidden mushrooms add another level of complexity. The spot is a little loud and tight but order the dish for 2 to go on a regular basis and it is enough to feed 3-4. I have yet to try other stuff on the menu but I can vouch for the Paella hands down. read more

I was recommended this place by a few people and I'm so glad I went. The service was on point with being so attentive and helpful on ordering. The red sangria was very good, not weak at all like some places and it paired well with our meal. This truly is my favorite Paella so far and I've tried many. The rice was cooked perfectly and the seafood wasn't over cooked at all. Is definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice place for dinner and drinks. This is a gem in Chappaqua! Service was slightly slow, Friendly but it was a Saturday night in one of the newest restaurants in the area on its soft opening. We did not have a reservation when we came in and the restaurant was full. We were quickly sat at one of the high top tables by the bar not needing to wait was a plus but this was by chance as these tables are taken quickly by the wine connoisseurs at the bar. I came with a party of 11 during lunch on Saturday. The service was friendly but not attentive. We received 2 baskets of bread which did not even give us one piece each. I had to flag the waiter to refill the bread baskets. Even then, he only brought one, I had to flag again to ask for the one for the other side of the table. Same story with the water, had to flag someone every time we needed a refill. We finished our wine and drinks, no one offered more. My MIL ordered 2 appetizers when the rest of us ordered an appetized and a main. I though it was obvious that she wanted the 2nd appetizer as the main. Her 2nd appetizer came within 5 min from ordering, it was placed on the table 3 people away from her without a word. It came before the bread or the drinks. We did not even realize it was put on the table. Her 1st appetizer came out with the rest of the appetizers. This created a really uncomfortable situation where she had to eat by herself first and then had no food when we ate our main courses. As far as the food, the octopus appetizer was very good, tender and flavorful but way-way too much finishing salt. The croquets were ok, would not recommend, fried manchego was excellent. For the main, 4 people orders filet mignon: one rare and 3 medium-rare. All of them were completely well done, actually past well-done. 2 people kept it, 2 returned. Of the 2 returned, one came back rare and the 2nd again fully well done. For some reason they cut the filet into 3 thing pieces, so it is probably almost impossible not to overcook. Plus, the steaks had no crust on them, they looked boiled. Again, being so thin, they could not be kept on the pan long enough. The steak, just like the octopus, had too much salt while the accompanying potatoes were completely bland. Churros were small and overcooked, the syrup tasted like it came out of the Hershey bottle. read more

Contrary to what some of these reviews say, we loved this place! Came by and they were able to seat us right away (as a party of 3) with no issues. We ordered sangrias and boy they were strong, but good! Everyone was very friendly and overall food was excellent. We ordered the vieiras rellenas, the burrata, and the chuletitas. Those plates were picked clean! Soooo good. Only thing I would say is the bacon on the vieiras was a little bit burnt, but the rest of it was good, so won't kill a star for it. The marisco paella was also great! They recommended that we eat from the center out. So tasty and def some of the better paella I've had. Overall, we had a great time here and would come again. Paella was pretty fresh. Had some calamari over avacado. This was fried well but the avacado was a bit too sour. Chorizo dish was good also but maybe slightly too salty. We also had some steak empanadas. This too was fine, but maybe since there were 3 of us at the table, perhaps we could have been served 3 of them instead of 2? Ambiance was nice but I certainly could have done without the club music playing in the background (at least it was not too loud). Service was excellent but on a busy Saturday night, Basque could have used one more person to help at the tables. Overall a good effort for (what I think is) a new Restaurant. read more
